Auston Matthews USA All Time Goals

Where does Matthews finish all time in NHL goals by a USA player?

  • 1st place undisputed

  • 2nd

  • 3rd

  • 4th

  • 5th

  • Does not make top 5

  • Does not make top 10

  • Finishes ahead of all retired players but behind a current active player.

Can Auston Matthews achieve the all time goals record for American players in the NHL.

Current top 5 is:

1) Brett Hull - 741 Goals in 1269 Games
2) Mike Modano - 561 Goals in 1499 (f***ing Babcock) Games
3) Keith Tkachuk - 538 Goals in 1201 Games
4) Jeremy Roenick - 513 Goals in 1363 Games
5) Joe Mullen - 502 Goals in 1062 Games

Highest Active player is:

10) Patrick Kane - 404 Goals in 1029 Games

Matthews is at:
58) 199 Goals in 334 Games

If he kept up his current career pace over 1269 games he just edges out Hull at 756. That's a very very tall task. He'll be the clear cut 2nd

I think you may have typed the wrong number but Kane has 404 goals not 502. I think he'll reach 500 one day, but no way Matthews will score over 700 goals to beat Hull. I think 500 will be more likely maybe top 5 for sure.

Youre right! My bad, not sure how I did it but I just retyped what Mullen has.

He has a solid chance of being the best American-born goalscorer of all-time. Catching Hull is highly unlikely unless he ages extremely well or goal-scoring league-wide rises.

It would put him 5th all time in goals scored (Assuming Ovechkin scores more than 11 goals this season to pass Hull himself).

A very tall task, indeed.

10 years of 40 goal seasons (baseless guess factoring in injuries and lock outs) pluss 199 in already...is 600. That 140 shortfall is doable but not a given, #2 at least looks like smart money barring chronic injury.

At an absolute minimum he'll crack the Top 5, I could easily see him passing Tkachuk and maybe Modano but there's little to no chance he surpasses Hull

He can be a clear 2nd with a good shot at first. Him being injury-prone will make it even harder for him to get to #1.

People don’t understand how hard 700+ goals actually is

Ive said before anything below 600 would be a big disappointment based on what he's already done.

I think 700 is also doable, but more difficult. 750 even moreso. So ill vote 2nd

Health is a big factor here. I think he trucks through for the most part however. If his recent play and usage is maintained with good health sure why not.

Hard to envision him passing the raw goal totals of Hull particulary due to the era he played in, but he should be wind up as #2. And he should go down as a better overall player than Hull when it's said and done

He has missed some games for sure. Nice post.
