Confirmed.

I wanted 1,8 for 3,4 but swallowed 9 instead of 8 because the 1 on the clock is arguably top 10 all time material, certainly a stellar game changer.

The back-to-back picks help.

I refuse that trade. Hate to be that guy. Sorry guys, I know it sucks.

A trade in the 1st round REQUIRES the 2nd rounders to be swapped in my eyes.

As it is it's too complicated to gauge the value and it has draft-breaking potential given the picks in play.

By precautionary principle, I veto it.

That’s… interesting. +37, -100 (if my quick math is right).

Like BB, I have reservations about a first being traded without a second rounder coming back. Heck, not even a 3rd is coming back. This feels like it has the potential to significantly alter the competitive balance of the draft.

I’m voting “no” unless someone can explain why/how I am looking at this wrong.

A third is coming back though, both the third and fourth.

I personally really don't see the value gap between 51 and 14 as much as say 4 and 5 even, but looks like the group isn't with this :/ We'll see if we can work a revised one shortly, or I'll just pick otherwise.

I don't like "funny business" trades in general, but am way more likely to tolerate them or execute them myself further in the draft. When 1st rounders are involved, I am extremely conservative given the ramifications.

Also, I KNOW it sucks to have a trade vetoed. I've been there many times in the past. But it is what it is.

I would do either side of it.

I'd trade my 1st & 9th for his 3rd & 4th.

How is this bad?
Since when is a 2nd rounder required? (The 3rd, 4th rounders are friggin' top-50 material!! at the margins - whereas the 9th rounder is outside the top 150).

The trade will give you THREE players within the Top 25 which are a notch above the rest, whereas other teams will only have ONE such player. THAT is the whole point of vetoing it. It is potentially draft breaking. I do not want to compete against a team with the set of picks that this will give you.

You are correct about the 3rd, my mistake.

I still think that drop is too far this early in the draft, though. Thanks for being willing to re-work it!

So, someone at the tail end of the 1st round is not allowed to trade up to get another pick?
They are allowed; I just think (as do others, apparently) that there needs to be more meaningful compensation for that trade up.

You can build a core like Kelly-Morenz-Lafleur or Messier-Fetisov-Ovechkin with those picks. Completely impossible to compete against that even if you lost depth.

Or take Roy with one of those picks. Yeah its nuts.

Also I would totally top that deal :p.

So we'll give it some time to discuss, I will just give my thoughts on it. Four picks in the fifties (pair of back to backs) makes my team core. That's pretty huge on top of my 23. Also for competitive balance, while yes @VanIslander gets three quick early picks, they aren't that early, and the next time he picks is 87.

I'll be flying out tonight/Monday morning, should have enough clock time regardless, but @VanIslander also has my pick if it comes to that

The point is people are uncomfortable with funny trades involving 1st/2nd rounders. Those kind of crazy trades are more appropriate for later in the draft. No one can fully understand the ramification of trades; it's too complicated. So under this uncertainty, we have to apply the precautionary principle.

I think the trade needs to be re-worked as multiple people have chimed in.

I have no problem moving out of the late 1st round, but dropping below the 2nd from there would require a massive return to make a pro argument for it. And I just don't see enough to warrant a yes vote.

Absolutely nothing personal here guys, just think tabness should be seeing a lot more value as the person moving out of the 1st.

So, a 1st, 24th for 3rd,4th deal also should be vetoed?

I would also veto it.

A 1st round trade has to be the classic structure for me to accept it

That means

1st vs 1st
2nd vs 2nd
Then a similar bump in the 3rd or 4th round depending how the picks are distributed. Anything else I'm vetoing it.

Again, nothing personal. I've been there, I know it's annoying. But we have to protect ourselves here.
