Bert Olmstead - Norm Ullman - Bernie Geoffrion.
Olmstead and Ullman are great defensive players.
Olmstead and Ullman are great forecheckers – they will force a lot of turnovers and can lock opposition in their zone.
Olmstead and Ullman both are all-time great corner/boards battle players.
Ullman and Geoffrion are great stick-handlers and both can bring a puck to an offensive zone.
Ullman is great in the slot.
Geoffrion has all-time great shot.
Their playing style match one another perfectly. Ullman favorite move was to make a pass to partner and move down to the slot waiting for pass or rebound. So, he will receive a rebound from Boom-boom shot or a pass from Olmstead, who was a perfect passer. And after Olmstead dig a puck out of the corner Olmstead will have two perfect destination for his pass – Geoffrion or Ullman.
Their playmaking/goalscoring abilities match one another perfectly as well.
Olmstead’ assists finishes are 1, 1, 2, 9, assists per game: 1, 1, 3, 9, 10. He can score too (he was ones 9th in goal per game category), but his main task on the 1st line will be forechecking, passing and defense. He will fight for puck and give it to Ullman or Geoffrion.
Ullman was great scorer and playmaker. He will be able to score himself or give a perfect pass to Geoffrion. He is very well balanced between goalscoring and play-making: his ES goalscoring finishes are 1, 2, 3, 4, 6, 9, 10, 10, his assists finishes are 4, 5, 7, 8, 8, 8, 9, 10, 10 (we don’t have ES data here).
Geoffrion is hi-end finisher (ES goalscoring finishes: 1, 2, 2, 4, 7, 7, 7) but he is far from one-dimensional: his assists finishes are impressive as well: 2, 2, 4, 7, 8, 9 (per game).
I have at least two elite ES offensive players here in Geroffrion and Ullman. There are no ES data for Olmstead. Geoffrion ES goalscoring you can see above.
Ullman has ES VxV equal to 66, which makes him 16 all-time in this category. It’s more than Henri Richard, Gordie Howe, Trottier, Bathgate, Beliveau etc. There were only 7 C, who were better ES scorers than him.
So, I have all I need to have for two-way line – 2 great defensive players, 2 great forecheckers, 2 great corner/board men, two great stick-handlers, great slot player and great shooter. They can attack on the rush (Ullman – Boom-boom), they can dump and chase, they can score from a distance and from the rebounds – this line has everything and very well-balanced.

John Leclair - Denis Savard - Didier Pitre
Pitre is great defensively, Leclair is good defensively and Savard is defensively responsible. It gives me another good enough two-way line. It’s far from shut-down line, off course, but there are no floaters here as well.
Not many realize it, but Leclair is all-time elite ES scorer, who has VxV ES scoring equal to 64. It’s on par with Gordie Howe (!), Trottier, Frank Mahovlich, Bathgate. It’s better than Selanne, Robitaille, Brett Hull, Messier, Peter Stastny, Beliveau etc.
He was also great ES goal-scorer with 2, 3, 4, 4, 5, 5 goal-scoring finishes.
We don’t have ES scoring for Pitre, but his goal-scoring finishes in the IHL are 1, 9, NHA 1, 2, 3, 5, 6, 6, NHL 5, 6, 10, scoring: IHL 1, 5, NHA 1, 1, 3, 5, 5, 9, NHL 5, 7, 7. Combined with his all-time great shot It’s good enough to be the second scoring thread on that line.
Those guys need perfect playmaker and they have it in Denis Savard, whose assists NHL finishes are 2, 3, 4, 5, 8, 8, 9 (per game). He also has 5, 6 ES goalscoring finishes.
So, in this line Leclair will be corner/board/slot man, Pitre – defense + shot (scoring) + some board/corners play too and Denis Savard will be playmaker and secondary goal-scorer here.
I’d also took Savard to have Savard – Pitre combo for the rush – both are perfect skaters and they will kill any slow defense they will face.
Also important that both Leclair and Pitre are huge bodies and they will create a space for smaller Savard.

Prentice – Roenick – Mullen
Good two-way line. Prentice is elite defensively, while both Roenick and Mullen are at least good defensively. They hardly shut-down any 1st line in this ATD, but they definitely can play against almost any 2-nd line and they are clearly better offensively than most 3-d or 4th lines in this ATD. Their ES VxV are: 51 (Prentice), 55 (Roenick), 54 (Mullen). For comparison: Hossa, Kessel, Amonte, Toews, N.Backstrom – 54, Alfredsson, Kariya, Mogilny, Zetterberg – 55, Elias, Perreault, Perry, Benn, Goulet – 56, Kopitar, Provost – 52.
Roenick also is physical and can drop his gloves.

Joe Klukay - Pit Lepine - Floyd Curry
Shutdown line. Any of these players is elite defensive specialist and they can shutdown any line in this ATD. Lepine is comparatively good offensively (3 10th goal-scoring finishes, 6 10 goal seasons 4 15 goal seasons) and both Klukay and Curry can score (Curry was 8th and 9th in game winning goals and is also #68 in the history of the CH in the book Habs Heroes: The 100 Greatest Canadiens Ever), but that’s not their specialty here.

Chicago Shamrocks Real World Team History
In 1930, James Norris pursued the NHL for rights to a second NHL team in Chicago, but was spurned by the league who supported the NHL Chicago Black Hawks concerns regarding competition for fan base. He turned to the American Hockey Association who gave him rights to an expansion team in Chicago. The league had renamed itself the American Hockey League and declared itself a major league, to the anger of NHL president Frank Calder, who branded the league an outlaw league.

In 1931-32 season, their second, the Shamrocks won the league championship. Convinced they should be given a chance to play for the Stanley Cup, they petitioned the Cup trustees for that opportunity. However the trustees would have to convince the NHL to accept that challenge and the NHL would not. Perhaps frustrated by this, Norris once again looked to join the NHL.

In May 1932, the Detroit Falcons of the NHL declared bankruptcy, and Norris used that opportunity to convince the NHL he could take over the team. The NHL agreed on the condition that he disband the Shamrocks who were a thorn in the side of the Chicago Blackhawks. So he disbanded the Shamrocks and took three of the best players with him to Detroit, renaming the team the Red Wings. The American Hockey League reverted to the American Hockey Association after this and once again demoted itself to minor league status.

Style: Attacking team with a defensive conscience. All 6 defensemen are capable of moving the puck up ice, secure in the knowledge that if they get caught, they have the best goalie ever at stopping odd-man rushes. This is helped by the fact that the Swamp Devils have a LH and RH shot playing together at all times - ES, SH, PP.

The Kenora Thistles
"...an early amateur men's ice hockey team based in Kenora, Ontario, Canada and formed in 1885 as a senior team by a group of 'Lake of the Woods' lumbermen. The club is notable for winning the Stanley Cup as an amateur team in 1907. The town is the smallest in population to have ever won the Stanley Cup"

Team will deploy the left wing lock, created by Vlad Kostka. Kostka was the brains behind the rise of the Czech hockey machine in the 60's and beyond. He often was behind the scenes which is exactly why I brought in real life coaching partner and friend, Jaroslav Pitner.

The Metro's have a big defensive advantage when looking at F's, especially down the middle and at LW which is critical to make the LWL work. You have elite defensive players in Clarke, Ramsay, Walker with players in the good to great category in Gilmour, Holik, and Graham. Crosby, Firsov, Barry, and Aurie are certainly above average with Kessel being the one true non factor defensively.

While I don't have a traditional #1 Dman, I have supplemented that by, one, using a defensive minded system with players who overwhelmingly fit to a T, and two, have the best puck handling goal tender of all time who will act as an extra Dman, just as he did in real life. Teams will struggle greatly to consistently enter the zone and dumping the puck simply isn't a great option with Marty B back in net.

The Metro's have more than enough offense (especially down the middle with a murderes row of C's) to counter attack teams and obviously have the personnel to deploy the LWL effectively against anyone they meet.
