It looks like he did well the few games he played in the KHL. Very small sample size though.

the Breadman (Artemi Panarin) first 5 games in KHL 1 pt....

it took him 25 games to get 9 pts...

First 25 games 1 goal

oh boy....lol
Arsen Khisamutdinov 5 pts in first 9 games

the Hawks gave Parnarin the nickname "Breadman" cause his name sounded like bread.,..

Soooo... we gotta come up with a nick name for Arsen Khisamutdinov ..any ideas?

Arsen sounds like arson, and most times gas is used in a arson//fire.....come up with a related type name

Arsenic. Poisonous to opposing goalies. "Poison devant le but", to use a French expression.

Just realized that as a kid the most likely short form of his name would be Arse. Good thing he didn't grow up in the UK.

Well, he's Tatar, like Yakupov. It's hard to say what to expect from this guy, but he has everything: size, skating, hands, shot. It's just hard to predict, how well it will translate to the NHL.

He plays at C position, btw.

I liked that the Habs were proactive here. Timmins said that he has another year in the KHL, and instead of waiting a year and get in line with numerous other teams to try convincing him to sign with them, they got ahead of it and drafted him. This way, he's theirs.

I like those numbers, though.

MHL (KHL's AHL): 55 pts (26G, 29A) in 41 GP
KHL: 5 pts (2G, 3A) in 9 GP.

There's no K at the beginning, it's Hee. Other than that, you got it right. Muslim last name of Arabic origin. Not an ethnic Russian.
That's correct. His name is spelled as "Арсен Хисамутдинов" in Russian.

I'm guessing he's a Tatar ethnically.

Definitely sounds like when they got burnt by Parnarin , this time they took a different approach..They see something here and hope this guy pans out like they felt the Breadman would.

Lock him up before hand...safer than sorry

And it's not like they used a higher pick for him. He's a 6th Rounder. They can afford to use this pick for such a case. They said the same about Raphaël Harvey-Pinard. They drafted him because they didn't want to wait and try convincing him to sign with them as an undrafted player. They used a 7th on him.

I like that kind of thinking, particularly in those rounds.

Timmins confirmed that he would be sought after as a UFA so they used a late pick instead of competing against other teams. Same thing with Q pick, it leaves them with a free contract spot and they have his rights for another season.

In the KHL this past year he played with former Hab draft picks Avtsin and Nattinen. He outscored Avtsin by 2 pts in 11 less games. ouch

Hopefully he's a late bloomer, his numbers in the MHL at 17 are terrible, just 3 pts in 27 games, whereas Romanov had 14 pts in 37 MHL at the same age. That said at 19 and 20 he put up 118 pts in 100 games, although to be expected since it's a junior league and he was likely older then most and more physically matured.

I'm unfamiliar with the rules regarding signing euro players as FAs. Couldn't we have just signed him instead of using a pick?

depends, if he's under contract like Timmins says then that creates a problem as the only way we could have brought him over was if his team agreed to release him.

but eliteprospects doesn't have him as under contract next year, granted sometimes they are behind as it was said for weeks that Ikonen had re-signed but it wasn't showing on eliteprospects for some time.

KHL site says, he's signed through 2020. The sites English version doesn't have anything about this, but Russian version says, he has a contract till 2020.
