Two pro hockey players spent time in the penalty box Sunday following an early-morning assault at a West Village apartment building.

Frank “Sonny” Milano, a forward with the Columbus Blue Jackets, and Anthony-John “A.J.” Greer, a forward with the Colorado Avalanche, were arrested following an assault on a 28-year-old man, cops said.

Police responded to a 911 call at 5:30 a.m. for an assault in progress. At a Houston Street apartment building, the victim had visible bruises and complained of injuries to his torso and the left side of his jaw, sources said. He refused medical attention, police said.

Police sources said the three had returned from a night out. Milano, 23, and Gree, also 23, were held briefly at the 6th Precinct stationhouse before they were issued summons to appear in court at a later date and released.
The NHL forwards were both charged with misdemeanor assault.

$400 dollars to an an NHL player is nothing. These guys probably just cost themselves a whole lot more than that.

Not sure why those guys are being referred to as NHLers both have played far more games in the AHL to date Milano played 8 NHL games and Greer 15 last year. Neither have contracts for next year and probably make 60k when not on an NHL roster. Kinda shocked they are living in Manhattan and dropping that kind of money at nightclubs all things considered. Champagne taste on a beer budget'd...

Getting "catty" on Twitter doesn't get much attention from the cops these days. But, still, old Sean has a sharp dangerous tongue.

In meantime, both Greer and Milano got qualifying offers so they are making good money. To get arrested for doubling up on a roommate over $400 is pretty stupid and suggests they may not be the sharpest tools in the shed. Actually, on second thought, you might be right. Just like Avery!

Have you seen Avery’s Instagram videos? The guy goes around making fun of homeless people and films it. He’s trash and hopefully he’ll run into the wrong person one of these times.

I actually haven't. Can't feed a dirtbag like that the attention he so desperately desperately needs. I'm with you though, I've seen enough of him over the years to find it hard to care one way or the other what happens to him. Too inconsequential to wish ill will towards, but most definitely too inconsequential to waste a second of thought on him should something bad ever happen to him.

That was going to be my question to look up - whether these clowns were REALLY NHLers with reasonably comfortable contracts and a lot to lose, or AHLers who were living it up. According to Cap Friendly, Milano's earned about $1.4 million over 5 years, or an average of $286K. Greer is about the same - $277K a year for 3 years. Don't get me wrong - that's comfortable money, but an NHL career is a lot shorter than a standard career where you're working from 21 to 65, and most low-level players don't get primo jobs post-retirement (ie color commentary, NHL head coach, NHL GM, NHL prez.)

Still, $400 is a silly amount to get into a fistfight over - especially one that escalates to the point of police intervention. And if they were smart, I agree that they shouldn't be "living the lifestyle" like they are - that's a great way to create a target for yourself. Granted, who knows - they may be bankrolled by family...

I've laughed at Botterill a lot but the guy has brought in Jokiharju, Montour& Miller at a really low price in the last 6 months.

In 1-2 years that blueline is going to look a lot different.
Fast& skilled with Dahlin leasing the way.

Leasing the way is right with how the big RFAs are doing things nowadays.

Why an after-tax salary cap is unlikely to ever come to the...

As an introduction, here is a visual look at the average tax rates (all forms of taxation included) for every market in the NHL:

The five NHL teams with no state income tax (Nashville, Florida, Tampa Bay, Las Vegas and Dallas) have the biggest advantage here while Montreal,
Toronto and Ottawa are at the back of the pack, just behind the teams in California.

Even if tax planning tools might allow certain players in Montreal and Toronto to get their tax rates lower than what they would have been in California, the league-wide imbalance is obvious.

“I don’t see it necessarily segmenting the league into different buckets,” Arizona Coyotes general manager John Chayka said. “But for certain teams it’s an advantage, and they’d be crazy not to use that advantage.”
