I think a big factor in this one might be the Zamboni's defense. They're going to really have to lean on that top pairing to soak up a ton of minutes

I think a big factor in this one might be the Zamboni's defense. They're going to really have to lean on that top pairing to soak up a ton of minutes

They can't play the whole game, and the Biggies have the horses up front and on the blueline to exploit those 2nd and 3rd pairings.

On the other hand, one has to worry about the Biggies starting goalie playing like a bigger flake that the team's manager.

That's the worry?

I'd be worried Eddie The Boozer might get drunk and offer the refs a ton of money to disallow goals against him.

In this match-up Biggies came out firing on all cylinders. Mogilny, Yzerman, and Zubov all got on the scoresheet in the first period. Neely pulled one back early in the second but was cancelled out by Mogilny’s 2nd of the night off a slick no look feed from Kozlov. That’s all the Biggies would need as MAF closed the door the rest of night.

Game two was Jagr’s. Jagr transformed in to a one-man wrecking crew who refused to be separated from the puck when he didn’t want to. He racked up a pair of goals and assisted on three others- Shanahan, Sharp, Byfuglien. The Biggies were only able to muster a mid-frame goal by Sedin, assisted by Sedin.

If game two was Jagr’s game, game three was MAF’s. MAF decided to pitch a masterful 32 save shutout while stopping a breakaway by Seguin and another by Jagr. Kozlov scored the only goal of the game early in the third.

Game 4 was MAF deciding he wasn’t done with god-mode. He stopped 28 more shots until midway through the third, Rob Blake was able to squeeze a shot through traffic and Mark Stone was able to get a stick on it to redirect it home. Unfortunately for the Zambonis, this was only to bring to score to 4-1 after Murphy, Zubov, Clark, and Courtnall all tallied earlier.

Game 5 was a duel between Eddie and MAF, both allowing a first period goal- Jagr for Zambonis and Mogilney for Biggies. Both turned into stone walls for the rets of the game, sending it into OT. Late in the first OT, a quick transition through the neutral zone by Gaudreau’s line was interrupted by a rut in the ice and Konstantiniov was able to pounce quick and found Palffy, now behind the defense for the series winning goal. Afterwards it was reported that Jagr was playing with an injured hamstring and was effectively playing on one leg.

Biggies advance 4-1
