Arizona Coyotes new home should they be exempted from hockey related revenue equation.

Like I said, "book dumb, street smart". I bet millions of these kids that have thousands and thousands of school debt wish they would have been "street smart". They didn't have time to look at a dictionary because they were too busy working.

You'd lose that bet, but hey, make sure you go to Meruelo's casino because if you're gonna be losing money, might as well indirectly support the Coyotes. :D

Nothing beats real life experiences. Try and tell that to a Millennial.

As a neutral Generation X member, I believe the Millennial would reply "Oh, I'm sure you're right; now if you'll just hire me so I can get some (referring to the catch-22 of "need experience to get a job, but need a job to get experience") maybe we'll get somewhere"

Well they better sell out every damn game. I'll hide under a rock if we see empty seats in that tiny arena, especially after all the east vs west BS these last several years. Hard enough being a coyotes fan already

Selling out every game isn't the story. 50% higher revenue is.

Just how bad was actual paid attendance in Glendale? The losses must have been astronomical.

That's only from STH'er revenue so far. Still good but not a complete story.

Use a little logic.

Most of the STHs in Glendale were buying upper level.

A lower level STH at ASU is costing 3-4x that. So if some upper level STH bit the bullet and are paying the higher price.... And those in the east who stopped buying STHs are getting back in now that the Coyotes are nearby..... then it's not that hard to figure they would see a bump in STH revenue.

BUT..... I agree in general..... I'd be more interested in what the comparable suite sales are plus the corporate sponsorships.

For the record, that east vs. west shit is never going to end. I've been waiting for 40 years for it to die down and there are no signs of it diminishing at all. As for the arena, even GRA sold out the first season or two - the new is always a draw, especially in this bandwagon market. There are still two big tests for the Coyotes - one of them hopefully involves proving the TED after it's built (fingers crossed).

Even though we seem to be headed in the right direction that is VERY true. They need to keep attendance up after the novelty wears off. It works in our favor that we'll have another new arena with hype again in several years.

You nailed it, the novelty will probably wear off end of season 2, season three (24-25) the new kids on the block should be here and raise the compete level dramatically. Also it will we the LAST (fingers crossed) at ASU. Then onto bigger (pun) and better things...

Just to be clear, you are saying it sold out occasionally, and not for most of the season correct? The best ever annual average attendance in Glendale was 15,582 in 2005-2006. So they did sell out occasionally then, mostly on weekends, but rarely ever on weekdays. Back then, the advertised capacity was 17,625 and was later lowered to 17,125 when they decided to no longer count the numbered standing room spots into the max attendance. Attendance numbers per Phoenix Coyotes yearly attendance at hockeydb.com.

I think the difference now is that Gutierrez is actually saying (in yesterdays article) they expect to sell out every game and therefore the entire season. I know it is a much smaller arena but with the higher average seat price, they should bring in $32.8M in gate receipts ($170x4700x41) versus $18.7M they pulled in last year in Glendale ($40x11400x41). Once again, I would love to know the other numbers that make up the entire revenue stream and how the differ between Glendale and Tempe.

Without turning this into yet another stupid debate about location, I'm saying that in the first couple of years GRA had better attendance than America West Arena had been able to pull in during the final seasons downtown, and that it was because of the novelty of the new arena. Mullett Arena is going to benefit from the same novelty factor this year and possibly next year. The question will then become whether that demand level will continue once the novelty factor has worn off; a lot will also have to do with whether the TED project gets greenlit.

This market only sells winners. If you think otherwise, you simply don't know Arizona. To think the 4th or 5th sport will be different and sell out or anything close to it consistently if they continue to suck just because there will be a new, smaller arena in a new spot isn't going to make a difference after the newness wears off tf they get it approved. You only need to look at the Suns, Dbacks and even the Cardinals in the mighty NFL for proof.

Yup, I have been saying that for years. Twenty years or so in the Valley and most those years were sucky teams, and they could only sell tickets by giving deep discounts to make it look some what respectable. Win and they will come.

Tell that to the Universities that are getting way less applications. Look, I think education is good, my daughter is a PT with school loan debt, and like I tell her, she is more or less guaranteed a good salary and is in a career that will always be in demand, but what the Universities charge for education is just plain greedy.

The cost of university reflects supply and demand. Why has demand surged? Reckless lending by the Feds. The government takeover of the student loan industry has been a disaster.

Hi, everyone! I was thinking about the new Arizona Coyotes home. Personally I like the idea of a big team playing in a small house. Whatever. Do you know when will be the first match at Mullet Arena? Will it be the pre-season match vs ducks?

PS. I though to open a new thread to ask this, but problably I could use this to ask. Sorry if I'm wrong, I'm new posting here.

The Mullet will not be ready for the preseason. No home games; Tucson closest thing.

For the regular season, they start with a long road trip and have the home opener on Oct 28.
