If this is true, it still makes no sense. It's another example of why O'Brien shouldn't have all the power because I can't imagine many other people choosing him over Hopkins. Also, he still has three years left so they didn't have to give him a new deal, even though they should've because he has earned it.

Teams are always leery of setting a precedent for other players. If they redo his then other players will ask for it too.

Longer term deals only help the team spread out any signing bonus to lower the cap hit. Market is always going to move upwards. So you better be content with your contract when you sign it. Teams want to wait until you are about to hit your final year to do another contract or if they need cap space they will come and ask to restructure and give you some more cash up front.

There is no angle or reasoning where this trade makes any sense for the Texans. If its because he couldn't get along with O'Brien them you fire him citing his record which speaks for itself.

Texans have been a huge WTF are they doing ever since they signed Brock Osweiler. Then having to give up a 2nd to dump him to Cleveland. Despite the price tag it was worth it to draft Watson. But 2 firsts and a second for Tunsil and moving picks for a RB and CB last season and sending Clowney late rather than at the draft like Seattle and KC did with their pass rushers. And now this move....

like seriously....

A top 3 WR in the league for damaged goods. Poor DeShaun...

There are a few RB’s the Texans could have signed that are at least on DJ’s level. And they wouldn’t have required trading Hopkins.

I wonder if BoB is aware of that.

Trading Hopkins because of bad blood between the two isnt terrible in a vacuum but ffs you have to get value..

Hopkins was the receiver who stayed healthy too. Often bailed out Watson by getting open and making catches on broken plays.

David Johnson has had one good season, and it was three years ago. If he were on the UFA market today, he's getting what? $2m? Maybe $3m tops? He's negative value.

I get that HOU needed to replenish draft picks but they couldn't even get a 1st for arguably the leagues best WR? Two first rounders? A first and second rounder?

Its not like they have some really good 2nd option waiting in the wings either

Well it is a very deep WR class. And with the way colleges are throwing the ball there will be plenty of WR coming in the future.

but man to basically swap Nuke for DJ and then swap 4th rounded in different years is just huh?

Diggs just landed a 1st and a 5th. Also a swap of a 6th from BUF and a 7th from Minny.

just huh?

Vikings get better picks and cap space from their trade.
