Not really a duo since they don't play together that often.

Best duo is probably Kessel and Nathan's. ;)

As noted, they rarely play together at even strength, hard to really call them a duo. They're by a wide margin the best "top 2 players on a single team", though. IMO Crosby, Malkin and McDavid are the top 3 players in the league, all reasonably close together, with a fairly wide gap between Malkin and whoever is 4th best.

This has been the case since the both of them came into the league. It's not even remotely close and there isn't even a shred of debate to be had. We're talking about the #1 and #3 best players of the last decade.

Here are players actually playing together as a duo who challenges them atleast a little bit.

Mcdavid+Draistl
Scheifele+Laine
Matthews+Nylander
Kane+Panarin
Ovi+Bäckström

Some im uncertain if they play together

Kucherov+Stamkos
Marchand+Pastrnak

And there are likely many more.

However Malkin+Crosby on same line....

Nobody touches them as 1/2 punch. Very few in history are a clearly better 1/2 punch at centre, excepting the obvious Gretzky/Moose etc.

It's not even close. Toews and Kane have their case, because Stanley Cups, but no way I would pick them over Malkin&Crosby.

Er, well how many "duos" are there in today's NHL?

Datsyuk is gone, so no D&Z.

Matthews has a lot of talent with him but no real identifiable partner yet.

Eichel doesn't really have a counterpart.

Benn and Seguin fell off the map pretty much.

McDavid and and Draisaitl? I'd give it a couple more years.

So you're left really with Toews and Kane, and obviously Sid and Geno fit in over the two of them.

Backstrom and Ovechkin is likely #2

I wouldn't really call them a "duo". But if you mean the best top 2 players of a team the answer is yes, by far.

Yup.

Best 1-2 punch. But they're not a duo.

Unfair to think Crosby-Malkin isn't even the best 1-2 punch the pens ever had. Almost as unfair to think McDavid-Draisaitl isn't the best duo Edmonton has ever had.
