The Pac 12 tried to beg NBC to make a deal and still wouldn’t. It’s obvious the league doesn’t want this Apple deal. They’re going to start scrambling any day, maybe any minute now.

Washington’s President had come out after everything went plaid and said that the deal Apple presented Friday morning wasn’t the deal they worked on earlier (presumably when she chaired the media contract subcommittee). The new deal had no linear component.

I haven’t seen an article with any more detail than $23 million per school per year, when it has been stated that there were tiers of payment based on subscription levels. Minimum? Maximum? Average? Blerg.

Uncertainty in the marketplace is always a negative. In this case it sunk the conference.

LA schools bolting was a mortal blow that the Pac 12 clearly couldn't recover from, but spending months tying themselves to an Apple negotiation was the universe's equivalent of holding a pillow over the face of a coma patient.

Why wouldn't Apple give them an actual decent deal? Aren't they trying to become players in this space now? What sports rights deals do they have besides the MLS one and Friday Night Baseball?
