I’m of the opinion that casinos inherently turn the area surrounding it into an armpit, which means any downtown that has a casino becomes an armpit as well.

Not looking forward to whatever area gets the damn thing, but hopefully it’s as far away from the Loop as possible. Halsted and Chicago, right? At least not in the neck of the woods I usually visit.

"Armpit" is a funny word choice since Terre Haute, Indiana is another city that is getting a casino soon. Long ago, Steve Martin called Terre Haute "The armpit of America". I guess it was only a matter of time.

River West is a decent neighborhood.

For now.

And making new topics to replace the 1K+ topics, moved the casino talk to a new anything goes topic.

Old topic here:

Venting here because I need to.

My old man, easily the person I'm closest to in my life, has had stomach issues for a few months now. After not getting anywhere with doctors, he said screw it and went to an emergency room yesterday.

Today he had a tumor removed from his esophagus. Not confirmed to be cancerous (too early), but the odds aren't in his favor and the statistics with regards to survival rate are awful.

Might be the worst day of my life. I need a f***ing hug....

Hope things work out....I lost my mother two years ago to cancer....kind of expected it at some point as she was a very heavy smoker most of her life, but still sucked. My father's got heart issues and was in and out of the ER a couple times this week with internal bleeding after a fall at his house.

Sucks but sometimes these things work out. Try to stay positive, he'll need that from you.

Thank you all for your support, especially DHF for DMing me. Had some really dark thoughts throughout the night, but went and found a forum dedicated to cancer patients (and their family) and reading some of the posts there about survivers of this particular cancer has helped a little.

I'm so sorry, Shaft. I lost my mom to cancer in '17. It's brutal. If you ever need an ear, you can reach out.
I hope the results come back in his favor
Thanks Courts, I thought I remembered you losing your mother from cancer a few years back. Felt so bad for you at the time, disappointed to be in a similar spot now.

Why was my f*** cancer post deleted? Seriously.... f*** cancer. I don't think you will find a person who says otherwise. I've lost too many people to cancer. Esophageal cancer took my dad not even a year ago.

Best wishes CMS.

Anyone else hear about the Monkeypox stuff? Jesus H. Christ.

You need to stop with this shit, Chicken Little.

Maybe start with unfollowing Eric Feigl Ding-Dong.

Transmission of monkeypox virus occurs when a person comes into contact with the virus from an animal, human, or materials contaminated with the virus. The virus enters the body through broken skin (even if not visible), respiratory tract, or the mucous membranes (eyes, nose, or mouth). Animal-to-human transmission may occur by bite or scratch, bush meat preparation, direct contact with body fluids or lesion material, or indirect contact with lesion material, such as through contaminated bedding. Human-to-human transmission is thought to occur primarily through large respiratory droplets. Respiratory droplets generally cannot travel more than a few feet, so prolonged face-to-face contact is required. Other human-to-human methods of transmission include direct contact with body fluids or lesion material, and indirect contact with lesion material, such as through contaminated clothing or linens.

Someone basically has to cough or sneeze into your mouth, for you to catch it.
