Bruins own 20% of NESN so there shouldn't be a contract there. The radio one just gets extended over and over again.

I'm sure there is also a contract between the Bruins and NESN.

The Yankees own 37% of YES and also have a broadcast contract - they receive $84M/yr from the broadcast deal and $100M/yr in dividends from their ownership stake.

C&P-ing from another RSN thread:

Nope.

You are mixing two different deals here.

The rights fees paid directly from MASN to the Orioles & Nats - each team receives $28M in rights fees.

The ownership stake in MASN is currently split 90/10 and will shift to 66/33 over the next 20 years. Both Angelos and the Nats accrue additional revenues from their ownership of MASN above and beyond the rights fees paid to the clubs - with the bulk of those revenues going to Angelos.

Just to add as to the importance of owning your own RSN - Steinbrenner received $100M in dividends from his 37% ownership in YES - and that's in addition to the $84M in rights fees that the Yankees received.

YES, the regional sports network the Yankees own one-third of, is the most viewed and most profitable RSN. YES was viewed by an average of 82,000 households during prime time in 2009. YES, which has sent dividend checks to the Yankees exceeding $100 million on top of the $84 annual million rights fee they pay to the team

When Goldman Sachs was brought in to evaluate YES in 2007 for potential sale, it came up with a valuation of $2-3B - >2x the franchise value of the Yankees.
