Now the premise of this is simple, Tampa wants Erik Karlsson, we know Tampa wants Erik Karlsson we have known that for a while. i assume that if they were to get Erik Karlsson, they would ideally like to keep Erik Karlsson.

In order to do that you have to think they would need to move money.

The Leafs at least for this season have all of the cap space, all of it, they also happen to need a D man.

So why not flip some assets to Tampa for Stralman and then Tampa has extra assets to include for Karlsson

See , I don't know about that, because if they wanted to keep Karlsson they couldn't really take back salary, and they would want to keep Karlsson
The price for a top 4 right handed defender is always high. It will be even higher if it comes from a divisional rival that is competing with us for a cup and will have to face us to get there.

Tampa likely looks at the Leafs(and Bruins) as their biggest competition in the division. They arent about to trade us a top 4 RHD.

Ottawa moved Hoffman out of the conference to avoid him being in the Atlantic.

Why would they trade Karlson to Tampa.

I just don't see us helping the Leafs fix a problem at this point. We'd rather deal him somewhere else. Really though, he's not even close to the top of the list of guys we'd trade.

Your division rival is not going to give the Leafs a good Dman. They can trade him elsewhere and get the same return, all while not helping the Leafs.
But Ottawa, a division rival will trade karlsson to Tampa? Would have to assume sergachev is included in that deal

Look, the Leafs had Strålman already. They DRAFTED him, for puck's sake! Then, because management at that time wanted old school BIG beefy defensemen, not necessarily skilled ones who could move the damn puck; Strålman, Colin Stuart and a 2012 7th Round pick were traded to Calgary for Wayne fricking Primeau and a 2011 2nd Round pick. That 2nd Round pick was then part of a package trade to Chicago who used it to select Brandon Saad.

So, sorry, but NO BACKSIES!!! :P

Besides, as others have said, we certainly don't want to give the top contender in our division any help by giving them a solid top 4 RHD.

Dude you are literally in every single leafs thread pumping negativity, take a break.

Says a lot more about you when you can't take what your own fanbase says objectively.

What he said was 100% true, the fact that you can't take it says more a lot about you, take a break from the interwebs kid.

Right, and you think the leafs are the only team in the league looking for a top-4D?

Your entire premise is flawed - at least with how it applies to Stralman seeing how he's a UFA in 12 months - just when Karlsson's contract would kick in.

No,but most of the teams that would be interested are tight to the cap, most of the teams with cap aren't very good, with the exception of Toronto Winnipeg and Vegas, but Winnipeg doesn't need him and Vegas also wants Karlsson, Philly is good too, but like Winnipeg they don't need him.

A guy like Stralman only makes sense for a very specific list of teams plus he has a partial NTC
