Thanks for taking the lead on this one.

I'm going with Viro here. I don't think he's going to be a world beater in the NHL but I think he can become a 6th/7th defender that doesn't cock things up.

I suppose I'll go Viro, although I expect McIsaac to have a bigger role and be a better player for Grand Rapids this year. Then again, he is 2 years older, so I guess that makes sense.

I would like to see McIsaac get a game or two with the big club this year, just to see how he fares. But not sure that happens with the # of defenseman we have.

Ya'll are sleeping on Red MFing Savage!

Ok, you aren't, we're way too low on the list for any of these kids to be slept on. But Savage is my pick here.

Snap into a 4th-liner!

Black Hole for life!

At some point not being impressive in any way becomes impressive! Neutralize everything!

It's interesting to compare where we ranked these guys last year prior to graduations of Seider, Raymond, and Veleno:

10 Eemil Viro
11 Antti Tuomisto
15 Kirill Tyutyayev
16 Robert Mastrosimone
17 Jared McIsaac

I still have a unrealistically high expectations for Tyutya, so he gets my vote here.

I'd be interested to compare last year's results after the draft to this year. Do you have them on hand or are we digging?

The pool really has changed for the better in a single season. Tyutyayev and Tuomisto probably aren't even top 20 prospects for Detroit anymore. I know Niederbach came in at 12 but should probably be closer to 20 than 10. Wallinder and others have leapfrogged Viro. I feel much better about the pool overall.

He is not a prospect. Still just a try-out.

Viro wins this and we go to #17.
I know, because you said "Because he will be so good, and people like to overrate small sample sizes in this kind of voting", I thought to prove your point ;)
