Sad news.

I was actually at the game where they retired his and Howells numbers, which I believe was Tom Renneys last game as HC.

The place was like 70% full for the ceremony, always felt bad for him about that.

he was the Ranger other teams feared from mid-50's to mid-60's,
our star when my dad started taking me

and his trade for Nevin and Seiling was a key to the great Ranger teams that followed

Every team has that player who, when the team is going through dark times, is the star and the icon of the team. Fans can look back and say "yeah, they were terrible. But at least we had _____." In my time, that player was Brian Leetch. In my dad's time, that player was Andy Bathgate.

Didn't believe it when my dad told me. Even though I wasn't around for his play, the stories I heard were great and magic. Rest in Power to a Rangers great. :(

RIP to a great and a wonderful man. I remember him as one of my first hockey cards, in Penguin baby blue. I wish I'd had the chance to appreciate his play as a Ranger great but he was just a hair before my time.
