Mangiapane is almost 20. You better hope he dominates the OHL

I don't hope for much with 6th round picks generally speaking.

He's peaked my interest, but I'm still cautious. I remember being super high on guys like Wahl, Howse, Backlund (as an offense first mentality mind you), etc so I'm not jumping on any hype trains till we see how he does in the AHL.

Hey, I didn't realize that Mangiapane was a training camp tryout in the WHL. That actually improves his outlook, I think. A guy who was drafted into the WHL and then went undrafted once in the NHL would be worse that a guy who wasn't drafted into the WHL, then was drafted into the NHL in his second year of eligibility.

Basically means he could be a late-bloomer instead of just a guy who wasn't able to compete at the CHL level until he was older than everyone.

I dunno, maybe I'm reading into things way too much.

There are late bloomers in this league. I mean, our captain's one of them.

I'm hoping Andrew continues to develop and does some work in the A next year.

Let's not skew things. This was his 19 year old season, very clearly, and his domination was as a 19 year old player. He's not an overager going around wrecking kids half his size with a third of his experience.

I have no expectations for Mangiapane.

But I am very open to being surprised. With a lack of top 3 picks, the Flames are going to need some more surprises.

it's his draft +2 year actually, he was passed over first time around and no one called him an overager.
