Nick Saban: Federal legislation needed on NIL rules to prevent competitive 'imbalance'

Saban said the idea of endorsement income being used to induce players' school choices is a "little concerning."

We will see if US Congress decides to act

Dear Nick Saban,

:laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh::laugh:

This from the same guy who didn't want transfer rules loosened because "if you sit a guy who missed class that week, and then he can up and transfer, it sends the wrong message"(paraphrasing).

College coaches really can't stand the idea of players having some autonomy.

How many years in the last decade has Alabama been in the championship game? Saben is the last person who should be talking about "competitive imbalance."

You can scoff at the source all you want, but he is right.

There needs to be a set of rules and regulations around NIL and how athletes are paid. Otherwise you have a hole in the anti-booster rules the size of a Mack truck.

Every league that pays its players has rules around how the players are paid and what they can and can't be paid by outside of their salary to ensure competitive balance. The NCAA should be no different

Since the NCAA's preferred ruleset is: "these players can't possibly be payed LOL" it's not clear they should be trusted to establish those rules.

Please provide evidence of all these "other leagues' rules." Or are you saying NBA players wanting to sign in LA is just a myth perpetrated by the media?

No they don’t. At most some of the professional leagues with CBA’s ban players from endorsing products like tobacco, alcohol and gambling seen as negative for the league image.

None of these restrictions involve Competitive Balance.

Literally every league has countless rules about the salary cap and what pay is and isn't allowed under it.

They don't sign in LA cause the Lakers can pay more. They sign in LA because the endorsement opportunities are so much bigger than Oklahoma City, and there is nothing anyone can do about the players signing endorsement deals.
