After the dust settles on the offseason, what team will get the worst grade?

What team will look most foolish?

It's going to take some GM finessing to get close to what Holland's got cooking right now.

Holland will probably have the 2nd worst offseason because we can't even suck properly

Canucks look good actually.
Edmonton made some really questionable moves.

St. Louis is INVISIBLE and aimless.
San Jose seems unable to make a move. All they did was sign Nick Bonino?
Capitals seem content to run the same lineup again.

edit: forgot about St. Louis getting Buchnevich but they lost Schwartz and I don't think they improved.
I hope they are in on Hamilton

Edmonton's offseason is bad. They lost Larsson and replaced him with Keith. I hate that Keith trade so much it dampens the rest of the offseason. No issues with the other moves though.

How is Edmonton leading here by a massive margin? Barrie was a great deal, Bear trade was good, Hyman got 2 years too much term but the AAV was fine, and Ceci got 1 million too much. Not good by any means but probably not even bottom 5.

The Rangers and Philly both easily had worse off seasons- especially Philly who mortgaged a metric ton of futures to slightly upgrade their defense.
Rangers handed out multiple brutal contracts to bottom 6/bottom pairing guys.
Toronto didn’t change squat when they were one of the only rosters that needed to make a drastic move.
Seattle gave a massive deal to Grubauer who almost assuredly won’t live up to that contract.

Losing Larsson and replacing him with Keith is a big step down. And that goaltending is the weakest in the league imo, considering Smiths age and likelihood of injury. They had to come away with Kuemper as a starter at least imo.

Canucks - traded 3 expiring bad contracts for a new bad contract that ends with the Universe.

Calgary - didn't really do anything to improve a team that wasn't good last year, and paid dearly for a good 3rd liner.

Habs if they (predictably) overpay Danault.

Edmonton otherwise. Waste yet another year of McDavid's prime.

Edmonton is easily a top 10 in the league without a starting goalie. Grab that starter and see what happens come playoff time. We have a few years to go for it.

Keith was brought in for the 2LD. Clearly better than anyone we had in that position last year (Russell, koekkoek, Kulikov, Jones, Lagesson). Ceci is brought in to replace Larsson. While I loved Larsson and would take him over Ceci quite easily the difference between improving our 2LD and regressing 2RD is a wash imo. Kinda funny how Larsson got shit on for these past few years on HF but now all of a sudden he's an absolute stud and our D is in shambles without him. Nonsense.

Also Smith is in fantastic shape mentally and physically. Age is really just a number at the end of the day. And it's not like he's 80 and a fall will break his hip. Keumper is also a Band-Aid, 1 season in his career where he played a legit amount of games to be considered a starter.
