It's still there in my quoted post though. :) At least for now anyways.

Anyway if the Viagra logo is fine with being plastered on the boards at the Bell Centre to be seen by everyone watching the game on TV it should be fine with being posted on HF but I'll stop there. ;)

I thought of that but this site works with its own rules and they are not necessarily compatible with what happens elsewhere. :)

That's why I don't post much on this board anymore and I pretty much only read now when I log in. Maybe once the games start again and there's more hockey to talk about I'll post more but we'll see.

Anyway back on topic. I still hope we don't see logos plastered all over NHL players but with the league needing all the revenue they can get right now I fully understand why they'll likely do it starting with helmets first and eventually to the jerseys down the road most likely. :(

Dumb. Here comes the Euro helmets and jerseys. Walking, skating billboards. I won’t watch if it goes that far.
The league has no choice, no fans in the stands this season and a very modest tv deal south of the border are going to be very tough obstacles for the NHL to overcome. Some owners don't even want to play this year because of the coming financial losses, the league is in tough.

That is correct.

We're lucky the 1st strike wasn't a rectangular ad logo on the bottom of the jersey, backside. It could have been. And it could be coming.

The league economics were not set up to handle an uppercut square to the jaw from COVID-19. This is Plan B and it's necessary.

I can live with ad plastered helmets during these hard times.

However, I’m afraid that whatever measures they implement under the guise of making up for revenue shortfalls, may well become permanent on the basis that they may deduce fan acceptance on a wider scale.

Once you open the barn door, precedents may be set.

If given the choice I am sure that they would rather remain status quo but as you know, these are trying times for every sector of the economy and survival is now the goal. I do agree with you though, corporations always find new ways to adapt and it is unlikely that they will "go back" once things go back to whatever is the new normal. With that said, the humor of seeing our guys with WM stickers on their helmets will be pure gold lol.

Agreed. The league is somewhat of a lie, in my opinion, the big money teams are forced to finance the weak ones and cannot gain any competitive advantage for doing so, especially the ones north of the border. The NHL has done a wonderful job in dragging along some very weak franchises south of the border but as you know, there are others that are paying for it.

Bettman is not a hockey guy but he does have his eye squarely on the bottom line, the man looks like he is stressed out in the photos I have seen of him, he is working very hard to try and maintain some sort of equilibrium between the haves and have not's. He has a very tough job as a commissioner, he has to try and sell and grow a sport at the same time. Hate on him if we will but he is facing a mountain with trying to drag the NHL to the American mainstream.
