Myself personally I would like to see him scratched when he is healthy. He brings nothing to this team that Bart or Miller cannot. The only thing he brings to the table is his Doug Glatt skating abilities. I have never seen someone get hurt as much as he does by swan diving head first into the boards.

I disagree quite a bit with the original post.

McQuaid is your ideal #5- #6 D-Man, there arent many better out there than he is at what he does. He's not an offensive threat but the guy plays a nasty game, doesn't take crap and is quick to stick up for teammates.

One of my thoughts on McQuaid is inevitably this:

Guy that goes to bat for the team against insurmountable odds when no one else will. Millar can be just as skilled, a little more so even, but I take that tradeoff every time.

Yeah he is injury prone, but he is every team's dream 3rd pairing guy. Sticks up for his teammates and makes very few mistakes. That's what you look for in a 3rd pairing guy.

I could see the team looking to upgrade on McQ with a guy at the deadline who falls somewhere on the scale between Seids and Boychuk to help carry some of the weight of a long playoff run from Chara and Seids, but not for Miller, he's good solid depth to have though

While I really like our new guys (Krug, Bart, Miller and eventually Morrow) we have to remember that the teammates who give them the room to do their thing are guys like McQuaid and Boychuk. We had to let Ference go last summer which took some toughness out with him. To lose the game in/game out toughness of McQ would give opposing teams a little more incentive to take liberties with other B's such as Bergy and/or Tuukka. The season is long and grueling and while I want to see the new guys come up and succeed you can't rush them.

Ideal third pair - beat down of Torres, going after Scott, and the only goal in deciding playoff game vs Penguins last Spring are 3 reasons why couldn't disagree more with this OP.

McQuaid is miles ahead of Bartkowski and Miller defensively. I like both of those guys, but come on.

I know it took forever to find a decent offensive minded blueliner/PMD, and now that it looks like we have a few of them some of us are a little punchy, but if you roll out nothing but Krugs, Bartkowskis and Morrows you will get lit up like a Christmas tree. Krug and Dougie will be enough flash for the next couple years. McQuaid has a spot on this team.

I'd say it's a good thing no one gives a **** what you think OP.

Good talk, see you out there.

wow ... guy gives his opinion, you disagree, seems like the majority feel the same way, so you tell him nobody gives a sh*! what he thinks ! what happened to this site that somebody cant even give an opinion without getting sh*! on ?

I have always liked Quaider's game. We all know he brings a ton of grit to the table. He's not flashy, but he quietly makes a lot of solid decisions with the puck. He's not going to be a major factor in the offensive zone, but he is solid in the defensive end. He's your classic stay-at-home d-man, and those guys still have value.

Now, that being said, there is certainly an argument to be made for Bart to play over Quaider when everyone is healthy, and that is not a knock on Quaider. I think Bart just continues to get better every game, and he can make plays with his skating ability that Quaider just can't make. Bart also brings some grit to the table, not Quaider-level grit, but he doesn't back down either. I think Quaider has reached his ceiling, where Bart's ceiling has still yet to be reached.

On this team, Quaider is a bottom-pairing d-man, but I do think on some teams he could potentially be a #4 d-man that you pair with a more offensive minded player. I think he could have some value out there. Miller has been solid so far, and I agree that their games are similar, but I want to see a bigger sample size before I cast off Quaider. Quaider is still cheap, and he is only one year older than Miller. I think both players could have some value at the deadline, but probably more Quaider because of his experience. But let's not forget that the Bruins have a great shot at winning THIS YEAR, and you often need 7, 8, even 9 quality d-men to help you get through the grind of the playoffs.

This defensive depth is a great problem to have for the Bs. Right now, I would favor Bart over Quaider and Quaider over Miller, but I also think that when everyone is healthy, Claude should look to rotate guys in and out to keep players fresh.

So nice to see that loyalty and a willingness to put it on the line for teammates counts for so much around here.

McQuaid is the consummate team guy & brings more to the table than some think.

Whether he returns to the lineup or not when he comes off the IR isn't anyone here's call- it's up to Claude Julien, so we'll soon see whether he agrees with the sentiments of the OP in this thread.

I notice Krug makes more rushed mistakes when McQuaid is out. McQuaid is a nice anchor for Krug to work his magic.

I like Quaider-he plays with snarl.

He has to be the most accident prone defenseman I have ever seen-he can take a massive hit and keep on skating but then falls into the boards and misses two weeks of games.

Torey has been a little off since the McQuaid injury, Id say he gets right back in when he's able.

McQuaid is a better player than most think and would be a 3-5 on most teams in the NHL

There are a lot of people who can't see beyond the stat sheet, and believe such things as heart and chemistry are irrelevant.

Thankfully those people do not run the Boston Bruins.

I have to concur, and while hating to pigpile on an O.P this one I can't resist.

Mac is one of the reasons I watch sports and specifically the Bruins. Players like he are what gives sports the intangibles that reach beyond what's obvious and quantified. Grit is a substantial portion of our success. When Horty was replaced by Iggy, I wasn't as concerned because of Iggy's ornery nature. That's evident as his stat sheet doesn't show the numbers we'd like, but Iggy's play night in and night has been nothing but exemplary.

While some people believe intimidation and potential pugilism isn't a factor in the POs, I'm not one of them. It's there, it's underlying, and while it's not as big of a factor in the POs it's large enough of a portion in our game plan not to let it drop under a certain level. That level being at the top of a few teams built this way.

I feel the Bruins lost the Cup against Chicago because they were beat at their own game- 'outdepthed' and primarily due to injuries and I include Horton and Bergeron in this beyond the injured players like Campbell. Having 8 guys on defense you can count on with the nice showing by Miller is a good thing.

I dont think his Providence teammates are surprised how well he's played- and he is tough, a throwback, would have been a good 70's player.

btw- I actually enjoy threads like this because agree or disagree the OP is not sugar coating anything

Love McQuaid. He's a good foot solider.

But, I do think he's one of those dime a dozen third pairing guys you see plenty of around the league. I think right now, Bartkowski has played his way on to the team's starting 6 when everyone is healthy and McQuaid is the 7th for when injuries/slumps happen. Whichever way the Bruins go about it, our top 8 defensive options has not been this deep in god knows how long.

Keep him as a healthy scratch? For Miller who can go back to Providence waiver-exempt?

Makes no sense.

Soon as the team acquires depth, people want to have a yard sale. :shakehead

Not for Miller. Obviously when everyone is health, Miller goes back to Providence.
