Debate!

If you're a lower ranked team you can't possible expect to win without explaining how you're going to do it, right?

Ok, well I'm not the lower ranked team here (thanks guys!) but here are a few advantages I think I may have:

A better goalie. Palmateer basically has a four season resume as an above average goaltender, he hung for 3 more, but he didn't perform any better on bad teams than some non-impressive backups. Hebert has 7 straight seasons of .900+ goaltending, with finishes of 4,5, and 6 among them. He appears to have also played well in 1991-92 backing up Curtis Joseph. His one season of winding down, 2000, he had his job taken by an upstart Giguere, so there's no reason to believe he should have been chased out of the league by any means. Both goalies have one out-and-out failure of a season each, 1982 and 1983 respectively. In fairness, Palmateer had knee surgery that year, but going 2-7 with a 4.83 GAA is bad any way you suture it. That and his only have 1 60+ game season raises durability questions, unsurprising for an unorthodox athletic goalie.

A more offensively talented defense. The below are adjusted point seasons over 30. (Beauchemin has 1 as well). It should be noted that Brisebois and especially Stuart have been relied on by their NHL teams as defensive stalwarts as well, so I don't believe this is an irresponsible group either (Malakhov's placement in your lineup suggests you don't trust him much yourself, for what it's worth).

Mironov: 56, 52, 40, 33, 31
Brisebois: 42, 38, 38, 38, 37, 36, 35, 33
Stuart: 45, 42, 39, 33
McCarthy: 41, 38, 33, 32

Malakhov: 52, 50, 41, 39, 32, 31
Kravchuk: 45, 40, 31, 30
Martin: 36, 35, 33

A tougher top 6. I have Flett and Horton as power forwards on each of my top two lines. I don't see any such equivalents on the Barracudas.

Sorry about the absence, Christmas be crazy.

seriously BudsBuster. Don't disappoint me! You did really well for a first time. If you're gonna go out, go out with a bang. Or don't go out at all! Make a good case and maybe you win.

This one was extremely close and had to be decided by the number of games in the votes.

In game 7 OT... your winner is....... St. John's.

3 stars:

Guy Hebert
Ed Olczyk
Mike Palmateer
