Petry is a much much better player and he's earned his right to stay with the way he's performed in the playoffs, I don't think we'd find someone as good easily. Byron is what he is, a third liner. Him and Tatar sure are expendable.
This team is in shamble and requires a total rebuild, not a retool or a reset or whatever term Bergevin uses. This team needs to change its core and identity. They need to infuse young offensive talent; on offense and defense. Petry, as good as he is, was the best "available" d-man out there at the deadline. A 6'3 mobile, good puck handler right handed d-man with one year left on his contract....Bergevin should have jumped on that. Teams would have paid a premium for Petry. As for Byron, he should have been traded when he had those back-to-back 20 goal seasons and his contract was up. Should have been traded at the deadline. Wouldn't have surprised me if someone ponied up a late 1st for him back then.

Drouin is dead too me......and to think I was excited when we acquired him.

if only he was as good at hockey as he was at making these politically correct statements

Like, what the f*** was any of that last night? That pansy ass shot when he was in alone. Grip it and rip it you p***y. At least act like you might score. Is that too much to ask now?

Umm...just 5 years?
The worst thing is that we aren't even getting beat by some powerhouse offensive team. Philly sure isn't playing like a team that is going to win the cup. Thus, we are essentially playing like a bottom-feeding team who just happens to be in the playoffs, the one year where a top 10 pick in the draft would have netted a very good player. This decades-long rut is looking very likely to go for decades longer.

Im talking of the middleroad approach. Gainey had orders to go all-in. This is all on Molson.

Drouin is arguably the softest, least invested player to ever wear this jersey, what a waste of a roster spot that little weasel is. Only a moron with no vision whatsoever like Marc would’ve made such a stupid trade.

But then you have to remember we’re talking about a GM who failed to improve his roster one bit in 8 years, let that sink in for a second.

The miserable team he assembled was bottom 10 again this year for a reason, don’t let an undeserved, pointless appearance in the Covid-19 invitational tell you otherwise.

How dare you!

Weasels are a proud and feisty animal, and you sully their name by comparing them to Drouin.

Look at that hustle. Look at that jam. Forecheck, back check, pay cheque.

That doesn't matter. What we would win out of this trade is a forced rebuild. No more hanging around bottom 10-15. We'd pick higher for a few years.

Only way this happens is if Price asks for it.

We wouldn't win a trade -value- wise for Price, but it isn't always about getting the value for the player.. it's about removing this artificial buoyancy by the player, that keeps the team above their actual station.

Losing Price and replacing him with a Mrazek would give us 2-3 seasons of being a bottom team and get top ten picks. Which will all mature into their own at the same time that Suzuki/KK will be maturing into legitimate, consistent threats.

I get some players just got unlucky (crossbars and goal posts) but they really have looked like shit opening the game twice in a row now. Chucking less than a handful of shots isn’t going to win you many games, let alone not score in over 6 periods.

But, somehow people will find a way to blame Price, getting out played by Hart, and by allowing the first goal, it deflates a team of millionaires.

The so called vets other than the 3 big D and Price have really laid an egg.

Too small is accurate, not skilled enough is accurate.

Suzuki and Kotkaniemi have proven they have a bright future but without a decent surrounding cast it won't matter

That's my point. Just like ALLLLLLLLLLLL the trades wins Bergevin is so great at. None of them matters. At all. Insane. How can you win so much....and still not win?

There is no way Suzuki passes to Gallagher in the near future. 'Cause JK will have to pass to Caufield. There is no way that we won't have injuries with a small lineup throughout a season. And in the playoffs. So there's no way Domi is still with us. No way should Drouin still be with us. Armia is the biggest guy yet so disspaointing. People love Byron little feet..but he ain't doing much. Tatar dissapears in playoffs.

And people keep saying how future looks great? This is funny as hell. Future always looks awesome. Josh Brook looked insane. Collberg looked like the next great winger. Galchy looked like our next No1 C. Lindgren looked like the next one. The only reason why future looks so great right now is because future is a big question mark. Every prospect in juniors always looks great. Not that long ago, McShane and Fonstad were proving to be huge assets and huge depth for this team. Where are they now?

We can safely say that NOT in the Habs lineup today, the guy that WILL help next year is Romanov. So he plays alongside Weber. And frankly, that will be a very good pairing. Making Chiarot and Petry another pair, a very good pairing. A really fine top 4. Depth D is still to be determined. But up front...there's still NOTHING. Poehling if not traded might fit in the 4th. Evans too. Will that change the offensive of this team? Of course not. After 8 years ago, it's still going to back to the drawing board.

And note to people....Bergevin's contract ends in 2022.....won't be fired. And will probably be renewed.

Fact is, goaltending, as a whole, hasn't been the habs problem for quite some time. What has been a problem is offence, or the lack of, in our forwards, for the last couple of decades, almost three. Last time we had a decent (notice I didn't say good or great) offence was with Koivu + Kovy et al. Even then, we didn't have star power in their prime.

Pretty much. Lack of elite talent on the offense has been the major issue with this team. Guys like Koivu , Plekanec , Gallagher , Gionta , Cammy and hell even Kovalev etc are decent players but it's simply not enough. Just look at all the cup winners in the last decade+ or so. Those teams had Crosby , Malkin , Ovechkin , Backstrom , Getzlaf , Kopitar , Kane , Hossa , Toews , Lecavalier , Richards , Bergeron , Marchand , Pastrnak etc etc etc. We had no one who is in those tier of players. And not only do those teams had one but they also often had multiple of these elite talents. Not only that but they also had elite PMD defensemen as well (Keith , Doughty , Letang etc)

And why is that ? Because this team never took the time to rebuild properly , doing patch jobs after patch jobs while keeping the same conservative mentality since the end of the 90's. Our high picks also busted , never became what they were supposed to or were traded (Galchenyuk , Kostitsyn , Sergachev , etc). And some of the guys we got in return have been underwhelming (Drouin , Domi etc)

I may sound like a broken record but what this organisation really needs is a clean state. That includes the management , the small core of forwards , drafting and players development. And stop building teams around a goalie. It's fine to have an elite guy between the pipes but he's not the one who's gonna score goals. You need a mix of elite talent and size upfront , grit , physicality and two way capabilities.

Take a big deep breath Habs fans. These were 2 very boring games to watch but all of our flaws won't be addressed cause Suzuki and Kotkaniemi have taken steps forward. Still a PP and soft wingers to address now. List is getting shorter lol.

With a flat cap this off season and so many teams looking to make moves and the Habs have cap space! Not going to hold my breath but I think we will be called a lot by other GM's and we might make a major trade.

Until then... sit back and lets be happy that Suzuki and Kotkaniemi got playoff experience. For as frustrating as it was watching last nights game, there is still overall positives to look at. Habs are counted out now so I bet they win the next game. Roller coaster ride continues

Couple things are even clearer now.

-The famous Bergy line of « With Price in net anything can happen ». Well guess what, your goalie was playing on his head allowing 1 goal per game and you still loose. You need a f***ing minimum of talent!

-And once again we got proof that we are too f***ing small as ive been saying for the last 10 years.

I hope the fans here who wanted to beat pitts are enjoing their round 1! Lolz

12,5% for Laff or 9th pick > This f***ing misersble round 1.

Yes this sucks. No way around it lol.

Only thing we can hope for going into next season is that MB makes a big roster shuffle/cleans house, and that KK/Suzuki use this added confidence booster to push them even harder in the offseason. Romanov should help but we need A LOT more than that...

Being a Habs fan is a masochistic endeavour

This is a 24th placed team for a reason..

We lack a dynamic offensive talent on the blue-line.. we need a Hughes, Makar, prime Subban type.. we don't have that.
We lack a game breaker on the wing..
We lack talent on the wings..
We lack talent with size..
We lack some punishers on the bottom 6.

That's a lot to address and it won't get done before Price and Weber age out and Gallagher breaks down.

Invest in the KK-Suzuki window.
