The Devils completed the sweep of the Wings on June 24th. Had the series gone seven, would we have seen July hockey for the first time ever?

The "Site TBA" note is also interesting. There was some possibility of switching hosting arenas for game 5 and 6 because of some other events?
The 1984 and ‘85 finals were the only two 7 game series to use the 2-3-2 format. They returned to the 2-2-1-1-1 in 86 after the league was dissatisfied with Edmonton winning the cup twice on home ice in game 5, games which normally would have been held at the other teams arena. It was an attempt to copy the MLB and NBA which both used it as their setups at the time.Good question - I believe that this was back when everyone was tired of flying cross-country in the Finals, and so I think that someone had the option to go 2-3-2 instead of 2-2-1-1-1.
I don't remember whose option it was (or if this was even still a thing), but I'll try to find some documentation.
As much as I am enjoying the playoffs this year, it is too damn late for hockey. Late May is late enough for me, I don't watch much of the finals usually unless I am interested in a team. Too much to do this time of year for me. I know the US doesn't want to start earlier due the NFL so looks like it won't change.
Still crazy to think that it would end June 30th potentially.
