Regular Season Streaks (unless noted)

1967-1969:

October 14, 1967 -- Future Hockey Hall of Famer Brian Kilrea scored twice, including the first in team history, leading the Kings to a 4-2 home win. It was the first regular season game in the Kings' history and was played in the Long Beach Arena because the Forum did not open until December. It was the second regular season game in Flyers' history. Bill Sutherland scored 42 seconds into the game and Philly led 2-0 after one period. The Kings held a 38-16 shots advantage including 31-11 through two periods (Flyers led 2-1). LA held a 7-5 shots advantage in the third period but out-scored Philly 3-0. Doug Favell made 34 saves on 37 shots (one ENG). Kilrea scored just three goals in his NHL career but won over 1,000 games in the Juniors with the Ottawa 67s. While playing for the Kings, Kilrea requested the team demote him to Springfield of the AHL. "I just couldn't stand it there. I thought it was too hot. So I went to them and I told them that if they didn't mind, I'd like to be sent back to Springfield. They thought I was nuts to ask for it. I remember sitting in GM Larry Regan's office and he was trying to talk me out of it. Nobody had ever heard of anything like this before. I couldn't stand the hot weather. I hated it. I wanted to be closer to Ottawa."
November 26, 1967 -- Bernie Parent made 25 saves, seven Flyers scored and eight players had multiple points in a 7-2 home win. The Flyers led 3-0 after the opening period and 5-0 through two periods which led to the removal of goalie Wayne Rutledge (16 saves, 21 shots) for Terry Sawchuk (9 saves, 11 shots). Leon Rochefort (1-1-2) started the scoring with a PPG.
December 8, 1967 -- The Flyers regained sole possession of first place in the West as Doug Favell made 24 saves and Claude LaForge (1-1-2) had two points in a 3-0 win played at the Los Angeles Sports Arena. The teams combined for just one minor penalty (Joe Watson). Boston and Toronto were the only teams with better records than the expansion Flyers.
December 30, 1967 -- In the first NHL game played at Jack Kent Cooke's Fabulous Forum, the Flyers beat the Kings 2-0. Doug Favell made 25 saves in a nationally televised Saturday afternoon affair. Ed Hoekstra (1-1-2) scored the first goal in the building. Clarence Campbell dropped the ceremonial opening faceoff. It was the fourth facility in which these teams met in four games. Among the celebrities at opening night was actor Lorne Greene who was Master of Ceremonies.
December 31, 1967 -- One night after meeting in Los Angeles, the Flyers hammered the Kings 9-1 in Philly. Larry Zeidel (1-1-2) scored his first goal in the NHL since the 1953-54 season when he played for Chicago. Philly led 4-0 after one period. Brit Selby (2-0-2) scored consecutive goals to make it 6-0. Lou Angotti and Real Lemieux were main combatants in a brawl. Angotti (0-3-3), Don Blackburn (1-2-3) and Leon Rochefort (1-2-3) led the offense. Doug Favell made 37 saves. Terry Sawchuk (14 saves, 19 shots) replaced Wayne Rutledge (9 saves, 13 shots) after the first period. The Flyers began the new year atop the West Division standings.
January 28, 1968 -- Terry Sawchuk started against the Flyers for the first time and stopped 27 shots in a 2-0 win at Philly. Howie Menard scored 1:39 into the game then the Kings scored late in the third period.
February 16, 1968 -- Eddie Joyal (2-2-4) and Bill Flett (1-2-3) led Los Angeles to a 7-1 home win. Wayne Rutledge made 30 saves. The Kings scored twice in the opening minute of the second period to take a 3-0 lead.
February 29, 1968 -- Wayne Rutledge's 33 saves backed LA to a 3-1 win in Philly. Future Flyer Ed Joyal had a goal and an assist and was selected the game's top star. The Kings scored twice in the third period. The following day, the Spectrum was damaged when winds blew off a portion of the roof.
March 14, 1968 -- In a game played in Quebec (Spectrum roof damage) in front of 4,116, future Hall-of-Famers Bernie Parent (32 saves) and Terry Sawchuk (20 saves) both recorded shutouts in a 0-0 tie. It was the fifth facility in which these teams played during their first seasons.
March 23, 1968 -- Terry Sawchuk made 24 saves in the Kings' 4-2 home win. Howie Menard scored the GWG in the third period. Brit Selby had both Flyers' goals.
October 26, 1968 -- The Kings out-scored the Flyers 5-0 in the third period en route to a 6-2 home win. Real Lemieux (2-0-2), Skip Krake (1-2-3) and Bob Wall (0-3-3) led the offense and Wayne Rutledge made 19 saves.
November 17, 1968 -- Bernie Parent made 30 saves in Philly's 3-1 home win. The game was scoreless after two periods. Jim Johnson snapped a 1-1 tie with 3:01 remaining.
November 24, 1968 --Gerry Desjardins made 39 saves and Larry Cahan snapped a tie midway in the third period of the Kings' 3-1 win in Philly. The Kings held a 41-40 shots edge. Bernie Parent made 38 saves. LA was 0-7-2 on the road entering the game.
December 4, 1968 -- Eddie Joyal scored a natural hat trick in LA's 3-1 home win. The game was tied 1-1 despite the Kings owning a 25-5 shots advantage after two periods (finished 38-14). Dennis Roy, an NHL off ice official in Los Angeles where he was on the staff of the Canadian Consulate, served as the Flyers' backup netminder after both Doug Favell and Bernie Parent (who played and made 35 saves) had the flu. Roy wore number 1, which was Favell's number at the time.
December 21, 1968 -- Doug Favell made 45 saves and the Flyers skated to a 2-1 victory. The Kings held a 32-14 shot advantage after two periods (46-19 in the game) but the Flyers led 2-0. Gary Dornhoefer returned to action after missing a month due to a cracked left ankle.
March 1, 1969 -- Bob Wall's PPG with 0:59 to play gave the Kings a 2-2 tie in Los Angeles. Andre Lacroix scored twice in the first period to give Philly a 2-0 lead, which held up until the third period when LA scored twice. Bernie Parent made 30 saves and Gerry Desjardins stopped 31 shots.
March 6, 1969 -- Bernie Parent made 32 saves and Andre Lacroix had three (1-2-3) points in Philly's 5-1 home win. Bill Sutherland, re-acquired March 2, scored the game's final goal in his return to the Flyers.
March 27, 1969 -- In a key late-season game to determine PO seeding, Don Blackburn (1-1-2) scored with 1:42 to play and Bernie Parent made 24 saves in a 4-2 home win. The Flyers entered this game in third-place and one point ahead of the Kings; however, because of the format in existence, third place teams played the division winners while teams in fourth place played second place teams. Bill Sutherland (2-0-2) scored twice and was one of five players with two points. Gerry Desjardins lost despite making 36 saves.
November 20, 1969 -- Bernie Parent made 37 saves in the Flyers' 3-2 home win. Jim Johnson scored the GWG 42 seconds after the Kings' Eddie Shack tied the game. Gerry Desjardins stopped 38 shots. The Flyers held a 41-39 shots edge.
December 3, 1969 -- Jim Johnson had his first NHL hat trick, Simon Nolet scored twice and Bernie Parent made 27 saves in the Flyers' 7-1 road victory. Johnson fought future Flyer Ross Lonsberry in the third period.

1970-1974:

January 1, 1970 -- Los Angeles scored three times in a span of 4:29 in the opening period en route to a 4-3 home win. Eddie Joyal had two of the Kings' goals. Bobby Clarke scored the first goal of the game and added another for his second multi-goal game in his rookie season.
January 8, 1970 -- Gary Dornhoefer recorded the first NHL career hat trick in the Flyers' 4-1 home win. Bernie Parent made 36 saves in the win. Losing goalie Wayne Rutledge made 44 stops.
February 15, 1970 -- The Flyers outshot LA 55-31 and Bill Sutherland (2-1-3) scored two first period goals in a 7-1 home win. Sutherland scored 21 seconds into the game and later in the opening minute Larry Hillman and Eddie Shack fought. Shack also fought Earl Heiskala. Gary Dornhoefer fought Brent Hughes. Philly outscored LA 4-0 in the second period.
March 1, 1970 -- Bernie Parent made 36 saves and Jim Johnson scored with 4:37 to play in a 4-4 tie at Philly. Eddie Shack (2-0-2, 10 shots) led the Kings.
March 14, 1970 -- The Flyers out-scored LA 3-0 in the third period in a 5-3 win at LA. Bernie Parent made 30 saves. Simon Nolet scored the GWG.
March 26, 1970 -- Eddie Shack had three assists and Dennis Dejordy made 30 saves in the Kings' 3-2 home win.
October 29, 1970 -- Doug Favell made 34 saves and the Flyers scored three times in the third period in a 3-1 win at LA. Wayne Hillman and Earl Heiskala scored their first goals of the season to give Philly a 2-1 lead. Serge Bernie (1-1-2) added an ENG and was fined the following day by head coach Vic Stasiuk because the shot risked a potential offside it went wide of the net. Jack Norris stopped 34 shots for LA.
December 5, 1970 -- Simon Nolet scored on the PP with 2:12 left in a 4-4 tie at LA. Bob Pulford scored a PPG 1:03 earlier to put LA in front, 4-3. Bernie Parent made 34 saves and both Gary Dornhoefer and Bobby Clarke had three points.
December 19, 1970 -- Gord Labossiere of the Kings scored a PPG with 2:45 left in a 2-2 tie at LA. Doug Favell made 34 saves. It was the fifth straight game in this series played at LA.
January 7, 1971 -- The Kings rallied from a 4-1 deficit to tie the Flyers 5-5 in Philly. Jim Johnson (2-1-3) led the Flyers. Bill Flett had the tying goal and teammate Eddie Joyal (2-0-2) scored twice for LA. Each side was whistled for just one minor penalty (Doug Favell had the lone Flyers' infraction).
January 17, 1971 -- Dennis Dejordy had 33 saves in the Kings' 4-1 win in Philly. After a scoreless first period, L.A. made it 1-0 in the second period and added three goals in the third period. The last goal was scored by Ross Lonsberry from Ed Joyal and Bill Flett. All three players would be Flyers in a little more than a year.
February 17, 1971 -- Doug Favell stopped all 28 shots and Gary Dornhoefer (1-2-3) scored on a 50-footer and had three points in the Flyers' 4-0 win at L.A.
October 16, 1971 -- Doug Favell stopped all 43 shots and Jim Johnson broke a scoreless tie early in the third period of a 1-0 Flyers' road win. Favell's performance was a team-record for saves in a shutout until Darren Jensen made 48 saves at St Louis in 1986. LA outshot the Flyers 16-5 in the final period.
October 21, 1971 -- Gary Edwards made 34 saves for his first career shutout in his seventh NHL game and the Kings skated to an easy 7-0 win in the home debut of new Flyers' head coach Fred Shero. Bob Berry (2-1-3) and Real Lemieux (2-0-2) each had two goals.
November 18, 1971 -- Bruce Gamble made 32 saves for his first Flyers' shutout and Simon Nolet had the GWG in the Flyers' 2-0 home win. It was the fourth straight shutout in this series.
January 16, 1972 -- The Flyers rallied from three one-goal deficits for a 3-3 home tie. Ed Van Impe tied the score and Bobby Clarke and Bob Kelly each had two points. Both teams had 32 shots.
January 22, 1972 -- Real Lemieux had three points and Rogie Vachon made 25 saves in the Kings' 4-2 home win.
January 28, 1972 -- The Flyers acquired Ross Lonsberry, Bill Flett, Eddie Joyal and Jean Potvin for Serge Bernier, Jimmy Johnson and Bill Lesuk.
March 9, 1972 -- Bill Flett (3-1-4) stunned his former teammates in his return to LA as the Flyers won 5-3 in front of 6,618. Flett had asked to be traded from the Kings because the home fans booed him often. Bobby Clarke (2-3-5) gave Philly a 1-0 lead in the opening minute of the second period. The Kings scored twice in the third period and led 2-1 until the Flyers began a comeback with 9:02 to play. Flett, Clarke and Flett again scored within 40 seconds, the latter two 10 seconds apart, to give Philly a 4-2 lead. Flett and Clarke each recorded four points in a span of 3:31. Ralph Backstrom made it 4-3. Flett made it 5-3 and became the first Flyers' player to score a hat trick in one period. Flett scored two PPGs in the third period, one four seconds into the PP and the other five seconds into the PP. Backstrom (2-1-3) and ex-Flyers Jim Johnson (1-1-2) and Bill Lesuk (0-2-2) combined for seven points in the third period. The three Kings joined Clarke and Flett with 15 of the 18 individual third period points. Philly was 3-for-5 on PPs. Because Kings' owner Jack Kent Cooke was so disgusted, he demanded that Flett not be made one of the three post-game stars. Afterwards, Bobby Clarke gave Flett a spittoon with an inscription that read "Unspeakable Star of the Game."
October 18, 1972 -- Bill Flett (2-0-2) played the role of hero once again as his PPG with 0:31 to play gave the Flyers a 4-3 win in LA. Flett's SHG gave Philly a 2-1 lead and Dave Schultz scored 1:44 later. Doug Favell made 34 saves and Brent Hughes (0-3-3) had three assists. The Kings scored twice in the third period to even the game 3-3. The Kings held a promotion of 10-cents beer and 1-cent Pepsi and drew a crowd of 7,554 which booed Flett often in the team's home opener. The Kings fell to 1-6-0. The next night, the Philadelphia Blazers played at the Los Angeles Sharks in a WHA matchup and the announced crowd was 4,013.
December 21, 1972 -- Rick MacLeish (1-3-4), Bobby Clarke (1-2-3) and Bill Barber (2-1-3) led the Flyers to a 6-3 home win. Barber scored at the 0:26 mark then ten seconds later Don Saleski and Bob Berry fought. MacLeish scored the go-ahead goal late in the second period. Michel Belhumeur made 23 saves and got the win. After an unpleasant travel ordeal that took 10 hours to fly from Chicago to Philadelphia, the Flyers arrived in the Spectrum approximately 20 minutes prior to game-time. All flights out of Chicago's O'Hare Airport were canceled due to collision of two planes on a runway which killed ten people. The Flyers re-scheduled 9:30 a.m. flight out of Chicago's Midway Airport departed three hours late and needed to refuel in Cleveland. After a holding pattern, above Harrisburg, the plane landed and a chartered bus was supposed to meet a police escort near the Valley Forge Exit of the Pennsylvania Turnpike; however, the bus driver failed to meet the convoy and drove straight to Philadelphia.
December 30, 1972 -- The Kings won 5-3 in LA led by Bob Berry (1-2-3), Juha Widing (2-0-2) and Gilles Marotte (0-3-3). The Kings' Bill Lesuk was tossed as third man in when Bob Kelly and Terry Harper fought.
January 11, 1973 -- Don Kozak scored with exactly one minute to play, Bob Berry added two goals and Rogie Vachon made 30 saves in the Kings' 3-2 win at Philly. The Flyers led 2-0 on a pair of PPGs with under five to play in the second period.
February 7, 1973 -- Rogie Vachon made 31 saves and Ralph Backstrom had the GWG in the Kings' 2-1 home win. Bobby Taylor made 33 saves. There were three fights including Andre Dupont-Terry Harper 11 seconds after serving minors.
March 1, 1973 -- Rogie Vachon made 29 saves in LA's 2-0 win in Philly. Frank St. Marseille scored in the second period, the game's only tally until an ENG.
October 20, 1973 -- Bob Nevin (2-0-2) had two goals and Rogie Vachon made 17 saves in the Kings' 3-0 home win. Vachon started 6-0-0 against the Flyers but finished 6-8-3 in his Kings' career. LA outshot Philly 32-17 including 24-7 through two periods. The Flyers were issued a minor for a lineup error then Tom Bladon had a high-stick minor later in the opening minute of the game but the Kings did not score. The Flyers had 88 PIMs (63 in the first period) to LA's 54 PIMs. At the 5:54 mark, fights included Orest Kindrachuk-Vic Venasky and Dave Schultz-Gilles Marotte. Bob Kelly-Neil Komadoski fought later in the first period. Don Saleski-Dan Maloney had the third separate fight, by time, in the opening period. Andre Dupont-Don Kozak fought in the second period. Ross Lonsberry-Terry Harper fought in the third period. The game's last fight was between Kindrachuk and Komadoski. The Kings would not win at home in this series again until 1985.
November 8, 1973 -- Juha Widing scored a late goal and Gary Edwards made 33 saves in the Kings' 3-2 win, their sixth straight against the Flyers in this series.
November 14, 1973 --Tom Bladon (1-1-2) scored the GWG 28 seconds after the Kings tied it 4-4 in Philly's 5-4 home win. Bobby Clarke scored twice. Rogie Vachon, who won his first six starts as a member of the Kings in this series, finally lost and finished 6-8-3 vs. the Flyers as a King. As a member of Los Angeles, Detroit and Boston, Vachon had a record of 1-14-5 in his last 20 starts against the Flyers (he started his career 13-4-3 against Philly).
January 19, 1974 -- Bernie Parent had his ninth shutout of the season as he made 17 saves and the Flyers won 2-0 at home. Ed Van Impe (1-1-2) scored 29 seconds into the game and assisted on Bill Barber's ENG.
January 24, 1974 -- Ed Van Impe scored the lone third period goal in a 4-4 tie at LA. Van Impe had two goals in his last 101 games and both were within the last week against the Kings. Bobby Clarke scored the Flyers' first two goals. L.A. scored three goals in a span of 1:55 to take a 3-1 lead in the first period. Dan Maloney scored at 19:59 of the middle period to give the Kings a 4-3 lead.
October 10, 1974 -- The Flyers held a pregame ceremony at the Spectrum honoring their 1974 Stanley Cup Championship but fell 5-3 in what would be the Kings' last win in this series until 1983. Gary Edwards made 34 saves and Tommy Williams (2-0-2) scored twice. The Kings led 1-0 prior to three minutes on a disputed goal. Orest Kindrachuk and Bob Kelly had three points each. Dave Schultz had 27 PIMs including cutting Dan Maloney above the right eye in a fight.
October 22, 1974 -- Philly won 4-2 in LA and thus began a remarkable stretch of 32 games (27-0-5) without a loss in this series. Bernie Parent made 24 saves and Andre Dupont scored the go-ahead goal in the third period.

1975-1979:

January 4, 1975 -- The teams skated to a 2-2 tie in LA. The Flyers' LCB Line, led by Bobby Clarke (1-1-2), accounted for all five points. Usual reserve netminder Gary Edwards made 31 saves and Tom Williams had (1-1-2) two points for the Kings. Los Angeles Times columnist Jim Murray wrote of the Flyers "They say before the Flyers sign a man, they put him alone in a room with a bobcat and he doesn't come out until he makes it meow. It works. They are the champions of hockey."
March 16, 1975 -- Bernie Parent made 26 saves in the Flyers' 3-0 home win aired nationally on NBC. It was Parent's 35th shutout with the Flyers. Parent was a game-time decision after being removed the prior night when hit in the collarbone in a game at Toronto. Tom Bladon and Andre Dupont gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead and Bobby Clarke (0-2-2) and Ross Lonsberry (1-1-2) each had two points. The win began a 10-0-1 stretch that concluded the regular season.
November 6, 1975 -- Ross Lonsberry evened the game in the second period while goalies Wayne Stephenson (20 saves) and Gary Edwards (30 saves) limited both sides to just one goal in a 1-1 tie at Philly. The tie ended the Flyers perfect 7-0-0 home start to the season but continued the team's home unbeaten streak to 21 games (19-0-2) covering two seasons. Including the 1975 playoffs, the Flyers entered this game 27-1-1 in the last 29 games on Spectrum ice (the exceptions to the wins being a tie to the NYR and a PO loss to the NYI). Two nights later, the 21-game home unbeaten streak was ended by the Islanders.
December 13, 1975 -- Reggie Leach (2-0-2) scored twice and Wayne Stepehnson made 27 saves in Philly's 6-4 win at LA. The game was tied 1-1 just past the midway point when Gary Dornhoefer and Dave Schultz scored within 18 seconds. The Flyers led 6-1 with under eight minutes remaining. The Kings were issued the last eight powerplays (including a spearing major partially offset by a minor) after being whistled for the game's first minor.
January 8, 1976 -- Bobby Clarke (2-1-3) scored twice in the opening period and Wayne Stephenson made 32 saves in a 6-4 home win. Bill Barber scored with 25 seconds left in the second period to make it 5-3. Gary Edwards made 40 saves in the loss. The Kings scored three PPGs and one SHG and were given the first three PPs of the game during which they held a 2-1 lead. It was the Flyers' last game before meeting the Soviets in an epic battle.
February 21, 1976 -- Reggie Leach's goal with 1:36 to play gave the Flyers a 3-3 tie in Los Angeles. The Flyers led 2-1 with under six minutes to play but fell behind on two Kings' goals. Bobby Clarke and Leach combined for 16 shots. Clarke was particularly brilliant on the defensive end as he was the overwhelming reason the Kings had zero shots on a 5-on-3 advantage for 1:44 and his near goal was the only shot. The Kings were outshot 16-5 in the second period despite having 10 minutes of powerplay time. Philly finished a four-game/five-night road trip with a 2-0-2 record.
September 29, 1976 -- Dave Schultz was traded by Philadelphia for Los Angeles' 4th round pick (Yves Guillemette) in the 1977 Amateur Draft and 2nd choice (later traded to Colorado - Colorado selected Merlin Malinowski) in the 1978 Amateur Draft. Schultz said "I was surprised for a second then I realized these things happen. I have nothing to be bitter about. I can't think of a better place to go than L.A."
October 10, 1976 -- Ross Lonsberry's 20-footer was the game's lone goal and Bernie Parent made 18 saves in the Flyers' 1-0 home win. Philly outshot LA 13-1 in the second period when Lonsberry scored and outshot LA 23-18. The game marked the return of fan favorite Dave Schultz who was greeted with a standing ovation and signs of admiration. Schultz, however, was among seven players ejected as there were two bench-clearing brawls which led to $9,750 in fines. With about three minutes left in the first period, after some chippy and nasty play, LA's Dave Hutchinson high-sticked Mel Bridgman which prompted Moose Dupont to lead a charge off the bench. Dupont knocked out Bob Murdoch while Jack McIlhargey walloped Hutchinson. During this brawl, Schultz fought Paul Holmgren. When order was restored, three Flyers (Dupont, Holmgren and McIlhargey) and two Kings (Hutchinson and Schultz) were tossed. With about four minutes left in the second period, there was another altercation which included the ejections the Flyers' Bob Kelly (suspended one game along with Dupont) and the Kings' Russ Walker. Kings' coach Bob Pulford, who was replaced by GM Jake Milford, was the first coach in nine years to be tossed from a game when he grabbed linseman John Brown and afterwards said "I pushed him? No! I touched him. I should have done more." Schultz said "It was a typical Flyers' brawl, four against one."
December 30, 1976 -- Wayne Stephenson made 22 saves and Bobby Clarke and Andre Dupont scored in the Flyers 2-0 shutout at Los Angeles. In the last three minutes of regulation, both Dupont (holding) and Stephenson (illegal stick) were penalized at the same time giving the Kings an extensive 5-on-3 but Bob Murdoch was issued a penalty about two-thirds through.
January 8, 1977 -- Wayne Stephenson made 30 saves and Mel Bridgman (1-2-3) and Don Saleski (2-0-2) led the offense in Philly's 6-1 home win. Gary Dornhoefer scored his 200th NHL goal.
March 19, 1977 -- Bernie Parent made 30 stops and the Flyers out-scored the Kings 4-0 in the third period en route to a 5-3 win at Los Angeles. The four goals, including two by Bobby Clarke (2-0-2), came on nine shots. Rick MacLeish's (1-1-2) 44th goal was GWG with under six minutes to play. Gary Dornhoefer (1-1-2) had two points in the third period.
November 27, 1977 -- Wayne Stephenson made 17 saves in a 2-0 home shutout and Mel Bridgman (1-1-2) and Ross Lonsberry (1-1-2) scored. It was the Flyers' fifth shutout of the season. There was little physical play in the game and just ten PIMs (five minors), six to the Flyers. Marcel Dionne and Dave Taylor did not play due to the injuries.
December 1, 1977 -- Reggie Leach's GWG with 3:50 to play snapped a tie and Wayne Stephenson made 32 stops in Philly's 4-2 win at Los Angeles. Bob Dailey (1-1-2) had two points. An opening period fight between Paul Holmgren and Dave Hutchison was heated. Both head coaches criticized officials after the game. Fred Shero said "The teams played 50 minutes of terrific hockey then the officiating almost threw it away. The referee called dumb penalties on both teams at the end of the game." In a span of 2:28 late in the third period, with the score tied 3-3, seven minor penalties were called including four against the Flyers. The GWG was not a PPG. Kings' head coach Ron Stewart griped about the referee and linesmen on different situations. The Flyers ended the night with an NHL best 15-4-3 record.
January 5, 1978 -- Bernie Parent made 40 saves and Reggie Leach (2-1-3) and Bobby Clarke (0-3-3) each had three points in a 4-4 tie in Philly. Gary Dornhoefer suffered torn knee ligaments and missed the next eight games. LA outshot Philly 44-33 and Dave Taylor scored the tying goal. Orest Kindrachuk and Don Kozak got fighting majors at the end of the first period.
April 1, 1978 -- Bill Barber scored two SHGs 27 seconds apart early in the first period (unofficially an NHL record for fastest two SHGs by one player) in the Flyers' 4-2 road win. Philly led 3-0 with five shots on goal at the 4:31 mark. Bobby Clarke had three assists and registered points in his 20th consecutive appearance (interrupted by a nine-game absence with a broken thumb). The victory gave the Flyers 101 points in the standings but came with a price as Rick MacLeish suffered an 88-stitch cut to his throat. MacLeish lay in a vulnerable position on the ice while attempting to block a shot, when Marcel Dionne accidentally skated over the prone player causing massive blood loss through a cut described as 3-to-4" deep. MacLeish was fortunate that the Flyers' team doctor was on the trip, something that was a rarity at the time, as the closest hospital was at least 45 minutes away.
November 8, 1978 -- Blake Dunlop (2-0-2), who was promoted from the AHL the prior day and made his NHL season debut, scored twice in the Flyers' 5-3 road win. Bernie Parent made 22 saves. Reggie Leach gave Philly a 1-0 lead 15 seconds into the game. Rick Lapointe scored a key third period goal to give Philly a 5-3 lead. Marcel Dionne led LA (1-2-3) with three points.
January 7, 1979 -- Tom Gorence (2-0-2) scored twice including at the 1:08 mark and Bernie Parent made 19 saves in the Flyers' 3-0 home win. It was Parent's 56th shutout in a Flyers' sweater but also the last time he would be victorious as an NHL goalie (he finished his career 0-2-3 before suffering a career-ending eye injury the next month). Philly outshot the Kings 45-19 including 21-5 in the first period and 35-13 through two periods. Ron Grahame made 42 saves.
February 24, 1979 -- Wayne Stephenson made 26 saves and Mel Bridgman (1-1-2) and Reggie Leach (1-1-2) had two points in the Flyers 4-3 win at Los Angeles. Leach's goal with seven seconds left in the second period made it 4-2. Doug Halward (1-2-3) factored in each Kings' goal. The Flyers were issued seven minors to the Kings' two in the game. L.A.'s Randy Holt was ejected in the second period while Mel Bridgman was issued a minor and misconduct.
March 11, 1979 -- The Flyers posted a 6-3 home win in a game that featured NHL records (since broken) including most PIMs (380) and penalties (54). Wayne Stephenson made 34 saves and Bill Barber (1-2-3) led the offense. Ken Linseman, whose goal made it 3-1 with 10 seconds to play in the second period, said afterwards "We can scare a lot of teams when we fight." The donnybrook began when the Kings' Randy Holt retaliated to Blake Dunlop's comment of "Screw off!" After the game, Holt said "No way someone like him is going to tell me that." The Flyers had 194 PIMs (188/4/2 by period) and the Kings had 186 (184/2/0 by period). The Flyers had 29 penalties (26/2/1 by period) and the Kings had 25 (24/1/0 by period). Records set included most PIMs in a game by both teams (380), most PIMs in one period by both teams (372), most PIMs in a game by one team (194 by Philly), most PIMs in one period for one team (188 by Philly), most penalties in a game by both teams (54), and most penalties by both teams in a period (50). The 54 penalties: 10 minors (seven to Philly), 16 majors (eight apiece), 12 10-minute misconducts (six apiece) and 16 game misconducts (eight apiece including double misconducts to Frank Bathe, Paul Holmgren and Mel Bridgman of the Flyers and a double to Steve Jensen and triple misconduct to Holt of the Kings.) Holt was suspended two games and set NHL records for most penalties issued to a player in a game with nine [Chris Nilan had ten in a game in 1991] and most PIMs by a player in one game with 67 (a minor, 3 majors, two 10-minute misconducts, 3 game misconducts), 57 of which came when the first period expired. Tossed from the game were Bathe (team record 55 minutes), Holmgren (37 PIMs), Bridgman (35 PIMs), Behn Wilson (34 PIMs) and Bob Kelly (25 PIMs) of the Flyers and Holt (67 PIMs), Jensen (35 PIMs), Bert Wilson (32 PIMs), Mark Heaslip (25 PIMs) and Dave Taylor (25 PIMs). Among the injured Kings: Holt had a five-stitch cut to his hand, Bert Wilson ten stitches to his finger and Steve Jensen six stitches to his lip. Holmgren had eight stitches to his cheek and four stitches to his hand. Marcel Dionne, who scored consecutive goals including his 50th of the season, threatened to quit the NHL because of what he perceived as excessive violence and said "I'll sue if someone cracks me over my head."

November 21, 1979 -- Rick MacLeish (2-1-3), Bill Barber (2-1-3) and Dennis Ververgaert (1-2-3) had 3-point games in the Flyers' 6-4 road win. The Flyers trailed 2-0 early but erupted in the last period. The Flyers outshot the Kings 40-23, had 22 shots in the second period then scored four times on nine shots in the third.
December 6, 1979 -- The Flyers scored nine straight goals in a span of 30:10 en route to a 9-4 home win. The Kings led 3-0 after one period but Philly took a 6-3 advantage through two periods. Reggie Leach (3-0-3), Bob Dailey (1-2-3), Rick MacLeish (0-3-3) and Ken Linseman (2-1-3) led the offense. Leach scored the Flyers' first two goals within 20 seconds which set a team record for quickest two goals by one player. Linseman and Dennis Ververgaert scored 15 seconds apart and the Flyers held a 4-3 lead at the 7:50 mark. The Flyers had a 48-25 shots advantage including 24-10 in the second period. The game featured two major fights including a bench-clearing brawl with six minutes to play.

1980-1984:

February 10, 1980 -- The Flyers improved to 18-0-4 in the last 22 games in this series with a 5-2 home win. Bob Dailey (1-1-2), Bobby Clarke (0-2-2) and Mel Bridgman (0-2-2) had two points and five different players scored. The Flyers held a 47-31 shots advantage including 17-15 in the first and 37-22 through two periods. Marcel Dionne suffered an 18-stitch cut to his forehead and nose in a scrum while jockeying for position and later said "I'm short. It wasn't intentional. He (Frank Bathe) asked me if I was hurt." Late in the first period, Behn Wilson was tossed from the game after he was violently cross-checked from behind by Bert Wilson and while the Flyers' Wilson was restrained by officials, Jack McIlhargey fought the Kings' Wilson which led to no power play but 45 PIMs to the Flyers and 15 to the Kings. Behn Wilson was suspended three games by the NHL for a cumulative total of misconducts during the season.
February 23, 1980 -- Pete Peeters made 31 saves and five Flyers scored in a 5-1 win at LA. The Flyers arrived in Los Angeles at 4:30 A.M. Second period goals by Ken Linseman, Jim Watson and Al Hill made it 3-0. Linseman's goal ended a streak of 117:31 shutout play by Kings' goalies. Jack McIlhargey (17 PIMs, game misconduct) fought Dave Taylor (2 PIMs) 1:34 into the game which limited the Flyers to four defensemen (Jimmy Watson-Mike Busniuk, Andre Dupont-Bob Dailey) for the balance of the game.
November 6, 1980 -- Rick MacLeish (3-0-3) had a hat trick and Bill Barber scored twice in the Flyers' 8-2 home win. Bob Dailey added three assists. Pete Peeters made 20 saves. The Flyers outshot the Kings 45-22, Ron Grahame gave up eight goals. The Kings entered the game with an NHL-best 10-1-1 record.
November 26, 1980 --Tom Gorence (2-0-2) scored twice in the last seven minutes, including his fifth GWG (tied for the NHL lead), in a 4-2 road win. Behn Wilson bashed Dave Taylor in a fight and had four other minors in the game. Mel Bridgman (1-2-3) had three points. Rick St. Croix had 30 saves. The Kings held a 32-18 shots edge.
January 18, 1981 -- In a penalty-filled game, fifteen Flyers had at least one point, including goalie Pete Peeters (an assist and 24 saves), in a 7-2 home win. Three different defensemen scored and Mel Bridgman had three points (0-3-3). Tim Kerr cut Mark Hardy in a fight which required four stitches 14 seconds from the start. Ken Linseman and Jay Wells squared off at the 1:08 mark. Glen Cochrane battered Steve Jensen near the game's midway point. Philly scored four times in the second period. A brawl in the third period started when rookie John Gibson (48 career NHL games) sucker-punched Paul Holmgren (23 PIMs) who then flogged the turtling Gibson and which resulted in over 100 PIMs. Kings' owner Jerry Buss held a closed-door meeting after the game. After Kings' assistant coach Ralph Backstrom said "The Flyers play roller derby hockey," Flyers' head coach Pat Quinn responded "I think they were the dirty team tonight. It's just an alibi for them to say that they were just defending themselves against the tactics of the Flyers. That's just a pile of crap." Dan Bonar (2-0-2) scored 2 PPGs for LA. The slumping Flyers were 2-7-2 in the previous 11 games. Prior to the game, the Flyers celebrated the news of the impending release of the Iranian hostages by playing "God Bless America," in which the team had a 52-8-2 record when Kate Smith's version was performed.
February 21, 1981 -- The Flyers won 3-1 and established a team-record with their 10th straight road win against an opponent. Rick St. Croix made 22 saves. Thomas Eriksson (1-1-2) snapped a scoreless tie with his first NHL goal midway in the second period and Brian Propp (1-1-2) had the GWG late in the same period, both were on PPs. Charlie Simmer's 5-on-3 goal was the lone Kings' score. There were 270 PIMs called including 214 after a major brawl 8:10 into the third period which resulted in the ejections of the Flyers' Glen Cochrane (42 PIMs), Mel Bridgman (35 PIMs) and Mike Busniuk (31 PIMs) and the Kings' Dave Lewis (35 PIMs), Andre St. Laurent (37 PIMs) and Dean Hopkins (46 PIMs). Rick MacLeish scored 95 seconds later to seal the win. The Kings entered the game leading their Division with a 32-19-9 record but fell to 0-5-2 in the last seven games. Cochrane and Hopkins fought in the first period. Cochrane picked up 33 PIMs two nights later at Vancouver for a total of 75 in two games.
January 5, 1982 -- The Flyers rallied for a shocking 5-3 home win which increased the team's unbeaten streak in this series to 28 (24-0-4) games and set a team mark for most consecutive wins against any opponent with 14. Bill Barber (2-2-4) scored two PPGs and had four points and Pete Peeters made 25 saves. The Kings outplayed the Flyers for much of the game and led 3-2 with under three minutes to play. Peeters made a game-saving stop on Marcel Dionne's late breakaway which energized the Flyers. Bobby Clarke (1-1-2) tied the game with 2:47 remaining. Brian Propp (1-1-2) scored the GWG with 1:31 to play and Ken Linseman added an ENG. The Flyers scored three goals in a span of 1:53. The Kings took a 2-1 lead with two goals 14 seconds apart in the last minute of the first period. The Kings went ahead 3-2 with a last minute goal in the second period. Larry Murphy (0-3-3) assisted on each goal. Ron Flockhart, who was given a spearing major, fought Trevor Johansen (Ray Allison was ejected as third man) with 2:09 left in the second period. Glen Cochrane and Alan Hangsleben fought 40 second later and were ejected. With eight seconds to play in the second period, Mark Hardy scored a PPG which gave LA a 3-2 lead. After the game, Kings' D-man Jay Wells said "I can't stand Philadelphia."
January 27, 1982 -- The Kings scored two goals after the Flyers seemingly sealed the win with an ENG in an eventual 4-4 tie at LA. Marcel Dionne (1-2-3) and Larry Murphy (2-1-3) scored in the final 43 seconds after Ray Allison's ENG gave the Flyers a 4-2 lead with 1:03 to play. The tie was the sixth straight for the Kings, believed to be an NHL record, but stretched the team's winless streak that season to 16 games which was one shy of a team record. The Kings' winless streak against the Flyers reached 29 games. The tie ended the Flyers' team-record 10 straight road wins against one team. Ken Linseman, who had three assists, was hit near the eye by a puck and required stitches as he left the ice with a stream of blood.
February 14, 1982 -- Brian Propp (2-2-4), Ron Flockhart (2-2-4) and Ray Allison (0-4-4) led the Flyers to a 6-4 victory at home. The Flyers ran their home unbeaten streak against the Kings to 13-0-2 in the last 15 and the unbeaten streak in this series reached 30 games. Doug Keans stopped 19 of 20 Flyers' shots in the first period but eventually allowed six on 44 shots. November 27, 1982 -- Pelle Lindbergh recorded his first NHL shutout and made 22 saves in a 4-0 win at LA. Mark Howe and Lindsay Carson scored first period goals. A key moment: the Kings had a two-man advantage for 53 seconds and Brad Marsh lost his stick during which he blocked three shots and was eventually named one of the game's three stars.
February 5, 1983 -- Pelle Lindbergh recorded his third NHL shutout and made 29 saves in a 2-0 Saturday afternoon win at LA. Lindbergh, who suffered a wrist injury in a January 6 exhibition game against the Russians, returned to the Flyers for his first post-injury action. Brian Propp and Brad McCrimmon scored. Markus Mattsson made 29 saves in his Kings' debut. The Flyers unbeaten streak in this series reach 32 games (27-0-5).
February 13, 1983 -- In what was believed to be an NHL-record streak for consecutive games without a loss against any opponent, the Flyers' 32-game (27-0-5) unbeaten streak against LA was snapped 5-4 in Philly. The Kings entered the game as the 16th best team with 44 points while the Flyers were second best with 79 points. The last prior Kings win against Philly was October 10, 1974. The win came on the heels of LA's loss in Pittsburgh which enabled the Penguins to snap their 18-game winless skid. The Flyers entered this game 19-1-2 in the last 22 played. The relief of a possible victory was shown by the Kings' Jerry Korab who, despite being bloodied in a fight with Darryl Sittler, extended a certain finger to the Philadelphia faithful upon being ejected from the game with 48 seconds remaining and the Kings up by one goal. With 21 seconds to play, Mark Hardy fought Bobby Clarke. Marcel Dionne (2-1-3) and Charlie Simmer (1-2-3) had three-point games and Gary Laskoski, who appeared in just 59 NHL games, made 38 saves. Philly led 2-0 and 3-2. Pelle Lindbergh, who won his previous nine decisions and was 11-1-1 in the prior 13, lost six of his next nine games.
November 3, 1983 -- Rookie Brian MacLellan (4-1-5) scored four goals in the Kings' 6-5 win in Philly. The Flyers led 4-3 in the third period until MacLellan scored consecutive goals. Mario Lessard made 35 saves and Mark Hardy (0-3-3) and Bernie Nicholls (0-3-3) each had three assists for the Kings. Darryl Sittler (1-1-2) decked Ken Houston with one punch in a fight. Paul Holmgren, who picked up a spearing major, fought Jay Wells and became the Flyers' all-time penalty leader when he retaliated against an infraction by Wells during the incident. January 25, 1984 -- Bob Froese made 31 saves, including 15-for-15 in the third period, and the Flyers led 3-0 after one period en route to a 5-2 win at LA. Darryl Sittler and Dave Poulin gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead with goals 2:10 apart. Tim Kerr (1-1-2) scored his 30th goal.
March 8, 1984 -- Bob Froese made 32 stops and Darryl Sittler's (1-1-2) PPG in the opening minute of the third period snapped a scoreless tie in Philly's 4-1 home win. LA outshot Philly 13-3 in the first period but the Flyers held a 17-7 advantage in the second period. Goals by Len Hachborn and Mark Howe made it 3-0. The crowd of 9,144 (paid crowd of 16,916) was treated to free coffee and hot chocolate for braving a fierce snowstorm with record-low temperatures in single digits and 10 inches of snow in the area. There were five fights: Miroslav Dvorak vs. Terry Ruskowski, Dave Brown vs. Anders Hakansson, Brian Propp vs. Russ Anderson, Tim Kerr vs. Mark Hardy and Glen Cochrane vs. Dean Kennedy. The game was the first of five in which Bobby Clarke did not play as directed by head coach Bob McCammon in order to rest for the upcoming playoffs. Clarke reluctantly vacationed in Florida and said " "This has been going on for two years now: I have to be tired, I have to be tired...Well, why do I have to be tired? I'm not tired." Among the signs in the Spectrum was "Sent Wrong Bob to Florida."
December 30, 1984 -- Dave Poulin scored in the third period of a 3-2 win at LA. Tim Kerr had three points and Pelle Lindbergh made 24 saves. Bob Janecyk made 32 saves in the loss. Afterwards, Kings' head coach Pat Quinn, in his first game against his former employer, said "I can't deny I wanted this one very much."

1985-1989:

January 23, 1985 --The Kings won in Los Angeles for the first time since October 1973 and snapped the Flyers' 21-game (17-0-4) road unbeaten streak with a 6-3 home win. After the game, the scoreboard flashed a message saying "It's finally over." Marcel Dionne said "It's a champagne night." Future Flyer Garry Galley scored the final two goals (including an ENG). LA's coach Pat Quinn said "I'd be a liar if I said that it wasn't nice to beat them." The Kings led 2-0 after the first period and held a 13-2 shots advantage before the Flyers evened the game 2-2. Peter Zezel (2-1-3) scored twice and had eight (2-6-8) points in his last three games. Two days earlier, the Kings blew a 7-2 lead at Edmonton and lost 8-7 and one Edmonton beat writer proclaimed "The Kings fold faster than a chair on the Titanic." Glen Cochrane fought Carl Mokosak.
February 7, 1985 -- The Kings rallied from a 4-0 deficit to tie the Flyers 4-4 in Philly. Bernie Nicholls (2-0-2) scored consecutive goals to make it 4-4. Brian Propp (1-2-3) had three points. Ron Sutter's goal 1:13 into the second period make it 4-0. Pat Quinn was given a standing ovation by the fans in the Spectrum in his first visit since his March 1982 dismissal from the Flyers and the appreciative head coach said afterwards "I love this building and it's nice to comeback."
November 3, 1985 -- Tim Kerr (3-0-3) scored three PPGs for his seventh career hat trick and paced Philly to a 7-4 home win. The three PPGs, later matched, set a team-record by a Flyers' player in a regular season game. Peter Zezel (1-2-3) and Ilkka Sinisalo (1-2-3) each had three points. Philly had four PPGs. There was a total of 44 penalties and 191 PIMs (23/112 on the Flyers and 21/79 on the Kings) whistled including 19/97 in the first period which took over an hour to be played. The game lasted three hours and 20 minutes due to various infractions which included five ejections (Dave Brown, Ed Hospodar and Derrick Smith of the Flyers and Dean Kennedy and Jay Wells of the Kings). In the opening minute of play, Zezel (four PIMs) and Kings' goalie Bob Janecyk (seven PIMs) had an altercation which led to the ejection of Kennedy as third man in. Janecyk swung his stick at Zezel up high because he felt the Flyers' forward ran him over intentionally. It was the second consecutive game Janecyk had an altercation (also vs. Torrie Robertson of Hartford) and he said after the game "That weasel of a coach they have over there should have more class." February 21, 1987 -- Ron Hextall made 31 saves, Pelle Eklund (2-0-2) scored twice in the first period and Brian Propp (1-2-3) had three points in the Flyers' 4-2 road win. Peter Zezel (1-1-2) had two points. LA scored two PPGs in the third period. The game was billed as a matchup of the two leading candidates for the Calder Trophy, Hextall and Luc Robitaille. Kings' head coach Mike Murphy said "I think Luc has made a bigger difference to our team than he (Hextall) has made. They won a lot of games last year with Bob Froese. Luc has made a tremendous difference to our team. But I'm not taking anything away from Hextall, he's a super goalie. He's going to be an all-star for years to come." The Flyers possessed the NHL's second-best record but were 2-5-1 in the prior eight games. The Flyers weren't scheduled to play until February 26 in Calgary and earned a planned three-day mini-vacation in California.
March 19, 1987 -- Luc Robitaille scored twice and Rollie Melanson made 27 saves in the Kings' 5-2 win at Philly. The Kings scored three times, including consecutive goals by Robitaille, in a span of 2:58 to take a 4-1 lead. Robitaille and Ron Hextall were again the focus of the upcoming Calder Trophy voting. Hextall entered the game with a 34-18-6 record and a 2.90 GAA while Robitaille had 37 goals and 33 assists. (Robitaille edged Hextall in the final vote: 25-27-2, 208 votes to 23-22-9, 190 votes. Hextall won the Vezina by 5 votes over Mike Liut). Hextall was removed from the game due to the team's poor play. The Flyers, without Ron Sutter and Rick Tocchet, lost Peter Zezel when he was diagnosed with a torn medial meniscus in his left knee and did not return until Game 2 of the Playoffs. Dave Poulin suffered a mouth injury and lost several teeth during the third period.
November 1, 1987 -- Brian Propp scored his 300th NHL goal and Ron Hextall made 28 saves in a 4-1 home win. Dave Brown's first period goal held up until the early third period when the Flyers made it 2-0. Peter Zezel suffered an ankle injury and missed the next seven games.
November 19, 1987 -- Brian Propp (1-3-4), Rick Tocchet (1-2-3), Ron Sutter (1-2-3) and Peter Zezel (2-0-2) paced Philly to a 7-4 home victory. Wendell Young made 26 saves for the win. Philly outshot LA 43-31. The game was tied 4-4 after two periods. Paul Fenton had two goals for LA.
February 27, 1988 -- Scott Mellanby (2-1-3) scored on a 25-footer off a feed from Rick Tocchet (4-1-5) with 15 seconds to play then Tocchet added an ENG at 19:59, his fourth score of the night, in an 8-6 road win. The Flyers improved to 37-5-6 in the last 48 games in this series. Brian Propp added three (0-3-3) points. In the first period, the Flyers scored two goals in 31 seconds and three in 2:24 to take a 3-2 lead but the Kings scored consecutive goals in 31 seconds which gave them a 4-3 lead. Lyle Phair, who scored six goals in 48 career NHL games, scored his second of this game to tie the game 5-5 in the third. Tocchet's hat trick goal gave the Flyers a 6-5 lead but Ken Hammond tied the score 6-6. Glenn Healy was a last minute replacement goalie for the injured Rollie Melanson. A sizzling Tocchet had his fifth straight multiple-point game, including 10 goals and 14 points, and the first two hat tricks of his career; he had his third in the following game. Tocchet became the second Flyer to score four goals in a road game.
September 29, 1988 -- Doug Crossman, who held out of training camp and demanded to be traded, was dealt to Los Angeles for Jay Wells. Crossman was rumored to be part of a deal involving Paul Coffey of Edmonton dating back about a year. He was criticized publicly and benched by head coach Mike Keenan during the prior regular season for uninspired play.
October 15, 1988 -- Philly won 4-1 at LA breaking open a 1-0 third period lead with three straight goals. Ron Hextall had 30 saves and Ron Sutter had three points. Bobby Carpenter snapped the shutout bid in the final four minutes. The following evening, thirty members of the Flyers' traveling party attended Game 2 of the 1988 World Series in Los Angeles. That night, they witnessed Orel Hershiser, a one-time member of Philadelphia Flyers' Junior A hockey team, pitched a complete game 3-hit shutout in the Dodgers' 6-0 win against Oakland.
November 22, 1988 -- Steve Duchesne (2-0-2, +5) scored two first period goals and Bernie Nicholls (3-0-3, +4) added a natural hat trick in a 3:17 span in the third period of LA's 6-1 win at Philly. The Kings scored two SHGs. The Flyers' PP was 1-for-9 (LA ended 0-for-3) including 0-for-5 in the opening period when given five straight chances including 1:22 of 5-on-3. March 4, 1989 -- Wayne Gretzky (2-4-6, +5) had six points, including his 50th goal, and recorded four assists in a 6:27 span during the second period of LA's 6-2 home win. It was the 10th time Gretzky had four assists in one period. Mike Krushelnyski (2-0-2) scored consecutive goals to give the Kings a 3-1 lead. Jason Allison had three points and recently acquired Kelly Hrudey made 28 saves in his home debut. December 16, 1989 --The Flyers scored four times in exactly five minutes during the second period and skated to a 5-2 home win. Mike Bullard scored 16 seconds after Gord Murphy gave Philly a 2-1 lead. Rick Tocchet and Ilkka Sinisalo scored 1:26 apart to make it 5-1. After Tocchet's goal, Marty McSorley shoved him and was issued a double-minor. McSorley later fought Jeff Chychrun and was ejected for cursing at on-ice officials. Terry Carkner-Jay Miller renewed their battle from March. Wayne Gretzky's point streak ended at 18 consecutive games, one night after his NHL-tying assists streak was snapped at 17 games (at New Jersey). The win elevated the Flyers to first place in the Patrick Division but the team won just three of their next 19 games. The day prior, Flyers' head coach Paul Holmgren replaced captain Dave Poulin and alternate Mark Howe with Ron Sutter and Terry Carkner, respectively, citing the desire to infuse a more youthful leadership; Holmgren also added Rick Tocchet as an alternate.
December 30, 1989 -- Tony Horacek's lone career hat trick (10 career goals) and Ken Wregget's 30 saves led Philly to a 6-3 win at LA. The Kings replaced Kelly Hrudey (7 saves, 11 shots) with Mario Gosselin (13 saves 15 shots) when Horacek made it 4-1. Horacek's third goal gave Philly a 5-1 lead in the second period. Rick Tocchet (1-1-2), Mike Bullard (1-1-2), Jay Wells, (0-2-2) and Kjell Samuelsson (0-2-2) each had two points. The checking line of Derrick Smith, who scored, Keith Acton and Doug Sulliman held Wayne Gretzky to two assists. March 18, 1990 --Ken Wregget made 29 saves while Rick Tocchet (1-3-4), Ron Sutter (2-1-3) and Murray Craven (1-2-3) suppiled the offense in a 7-4 home win. The Flyers out-scored Los Angeles 4-1 in the third period.
December 27, 1990 -- Mike Ricci scored twice and Ron Hextall made 35 saves in Philly's 7-5 win at Los Angeles. Scott Mellanby (1-2-3), Rick Tocchet (1-2-3), Murray Craven (1-2-3) and Jiri Latal (0-3-3, game-high 7 shots) had three points apiece. Tim Kerr (1-1-2) returned from injury and played in his first game since early November. LA outshot Philly 40-38. The Flyers led 6-2 after Kjell Samuelsson scored late in the second period. Luc Robitaille netted two goals get the Kings to within one goal with more than eight minutes remaining. Tocchet finished the scoring with 2:50 to play. Daniel Berthiaume (17 saves on 23 shots) was replaced by Kelly Hrudey (14 saves on 15 shots).
February 5, 1991 -- Luc Robitaille scored in the third period and Kelly Hrudey made 22 saves in LA's 3-2 win at Philly. Normand Lacombe's successful penalty shot attempt gave the Flyers a 2-1 lead in the second period but Steve Duchesne tied it about two minutes later. Ron Hextall made 29 saves in the defeat. May 30, 1991 -- As part of a three-way trade involving Los Angeles, Edmonton and Philadelphia, Dave Brown, Corey Foster and the rights to Jari Kurri were traded to the Flyers by the Oilers for Scott Mellanby, Craig Berube and Craig Fisher. The Flyers dealt the rights to Kurri (playing in Italy but a FA under contract to Edmonton) and Jeff Chychrun to the Kings for Steve Kasper, Steve Duchesne and a fourth-round draft pick (Aris Brimanis). In the end: Edmonton received Mellanby, Berube and Fisher for Kurri, Brown and Foster. L.A. received Kurri and Chychrun for Kasper, Duchesne and a fourth-round pick (Brimanis). Philly received Kasper, Duchesne, Foster, Brown and a fourth-round pick (Brimanis) for Mellanby, Chychrun, Berube and Fisher. A disappointed Duchesne said he hung up the phone on Kings' GM Rogie Vachon when he was informed of the trade. He told media members "I just hung on him. I couldn't believe the Kings could trade a young defenseman for a 31-year old forward. I thought that was kind of ridiculous. I was really ticked off. Actually, I still am. I love Los Angeles. I have a house here. Luc (Robitaille) called me right away. He was very upset. I've spoken to their (Flyers) PR people. They're expecting me to be the next Mark Howe. Woah! Nothing like putting pressure on someone."
January 4, 1992 -- Daniel Berthiaume made 24 saves, Jari Kurri scored twice and Wayne Gretzky had three points the Kings' 7-3 home win. The Kings scored seven goals in a span of 27:29. The Kings owned the second period: 4-1 in goals and 21-7 in shots. Steve Duchesne scored twice for Philly.
January 9, 1992 -- Ron Hextall made 28 saves and Kevin Dineen (2-0-2) scored twice in Philly's 5-2 home win. The Flyers led 3-0 in the first period, a period which included Dave Brown beating Jay Miller in a fight when the score was 1-0 and a successful PK of a 3-on-5 that lasted 1:37 when the score was 3-0. The Kings made it 3-2 after two periods. Mike Ricci (1-1-2), Rick Tocchet (0-2-2), Rod Brind'Amour (0-2-2) and Mark Pederson (0-2-2) also had two points.
March 2, 1992 -- Kelly Hrudey made 26 saves in LA's 4-1 home win. Tony Granato and Tomas Sandstrom each had a goal and an assist. The Kings' Brent Thompson was ejected in the first period for checking Keith Acton from behind then Steve Duchesne of the Flyers was tossed in the second period for slashing Marty McSorley after trying to swat a high puck. Wayne Gretzky had one assist and reached the 100-point mark for the 13th straight season. Ron Hextall (24 saves, 26 shots) replaced Dominic Roussel (3 saves, 5 shots) after L.A. took an early 2-0 lead.
December 29, 1992 --Rod Brind'Amour (3-3-6), Brent Fedyk (2-2-4) and Pelle Eklund (1-3-4) combined for 14 points and Tommy Soderstrom made 42 saves in the Flyers' 10-2 road win. The Flyers scored 10 straight goals and had 30 individual points. Dmitri Yushkevich and Terry Carkner each had three assists and Flyers' defensemen had nine points. Dave Taylor of LA returned to the lineup after missing the prior 18 games due to a concussion. Eric Lindros, who missed the prior nine games due to a sprained knee ligament, was scheduled to return but twisted his knee in the pregame skate on what he called "soft ice." It was the first time in franchise history that the Flyers won a road game by 8 or more goals. It was the most goals scored against the Kings in Los Angeles (Calgary had nine in 1989). Philly had a record of 11-18-5, was 1-7-2 in the prior 10 games and appeared destined for another setback as the 20-12-4 Kings held a 2-0 lead 2:43 into the game. The Flyers had four goals in the first and third periods. The Flyers scored three PPGs in 74 seconds during a 5-minute major to Jim Hiller who was ejected for punching Ryan McGill (no penalty) in the third period.
April 1, 1993 -- LA edged the Flyers 3-1 in Philly in a game rescheduled from March 13. A massive snowstrom forced the Flyers to cancel the game after one period due to high winds which shattered glass (happened with about two minutes left in the opening period) on the northeast concourse level, injuring a worker and spreading debris to the inner area. About 2,000 fans were in attendance. Multiple events on the East coast were canceled including NHL and NBA games. The first period ended 1-1 but the game was replayed from the start at 0-0. It was the Kings' sixth game in nine nights. Rick Knickle was the Kings' goalie in the canceled game but Kelly Hrudey played the entire rescheduled game. Flyers' goalie Tommy Soderstrom struggled and said "What can I say? Today I was brutal and that's it. I couldn't stop a beachball. I couldn't have stopped a big beachball. This was my worst game of the season." The Flyers had a game against Toronto scheduled for this date but moved it to April 4. Mark Recchi became the fifth player in Flyers' history to score 50 goals in a season.
January 16, 1994 -- Dominic Roussel made 27 saves, Mark Recchi scored twice and Eric Lindros had three assists in Philly's 5-2 home win. Viatchselav Butsayev scored his first goal since December 2. The Flyers went 2-for-9 on the PP and outshot LA 41-29 including 18-7 in the first period. The Flyers had all four PPs in the third period and the game's last five chances.
February 18, 1994 -- Dominic Roussel made 30 stops and Eric Lindros (2-1-3) scored twice in the Flyers' 4-3 road win. Mikael Renberg snapped a 2-2 tie in the third period. Kevin Dineen and Rod Brind'Amour each had two assists. Lindros' second goal was an ENG and gave Philly a 4-2 lead. Marty McSorley, reacquired earlier in the week, gave LA a 1-0 lead 27 seconds into the game in his first game back at the Forum and received a lengthy ovation.
October 18, 1995 -- Eric Lindros (1:00) and Tony Granato (2:10) scored in the first period and the game finished in a 1-1 draw at LA. Byron Dafoe made 23 saves for LA while Dominic Roussel made 21 stops for Philly. The Kings' PK was 9-for-9 including two in the last seven minutes which overlapped for 11 seconds. November 21, 1995 -- The Flyers scored times in exactly two minutes early in the third period of a 5-2 home win. LA led 2-0 at the 16:33 mark but goals by Rob DiMaio and Joel Otto tied it. March 19, 1996 -- John Druce was traded to Philly with the Kings' 7th round choice (Todd Fedoruk) in the 1997 Draft for Los Angeles' 4th round choice (previously acquired, the Kings' picked Mikael Simons) in the 1996 Draft.
October 10, 1996 -- Rod Brind'Amour's 500th NHL point was a goal scored 33 seconds into OT which gave Philly a 5-4 home win. The Flyers led 4-1 with under nine minutes to play in the third period but LA scored three times in a span of 3:24. Scott Daniels fought Sean O'Donnell and Barry Potomski.
October 15, 1996 -- Byron Dafoe made 31 saves and defeated the Flyers for the first time in his fifth decision, 3-2 in Los Angeles. Kevin Stevens, Jaroslav Modry and Brent Grieve scored second period goals for LA. Daniel Lacroix was suspended two games for an unpenalized hit on Kevin Stevens, after the Kings lobbied the NHL by sending a video to the leage office. Lacroix fought Matt Johnson and Dan Kordic fought Barry Potomski.
October 17, 1997 -- Stephane Fiset made 25 saves and LA scored four times in the second period of a 5-1 home win. Shjon Podein (1-1-2) finished the scoring with an acrobatic goal while sprawled on the ice.
February 1, 1999 -- Eric Lindros scored his 250th career goal in the Flyers' 4-2 home victory. John Vanbiesbrouck made 23 saves and was named the game's top star. Keith Jones added a key PPG late in the second period. Eric Desjardins put the Flyers on top for good 3:08 into the game. The Flyers improved to 15-1-6 over their last 22 games.
February 11, 1999 -- Jozef Stumpel scored with three-tenths of a second remaining and the Kings recorded an improbable 4-3 home win with three goals in the final 3:08 of the game (Luc Robitaille assisted on each). Stumpel said later "First of all, I didn't know how much time was left. But as soon as I saw it was in the net, I was really excited. I looked on the clock and found out there was only three-tenths of a second left and that was great. I didn't hear anyone, but I knew it was late in the game, so I just tried to shoot it on net. It hit the defenseman on the shin pads and redirected the shot." The Flyers led 3-1 when Eric Lindros scored in the third period. Sandy Moger (16:52) and Donald Audette (18:12) tallied prior to the GWG. Stephane Fiset made 28 saves. It was the last time the teams played at the Forum.
March 23, 1999 -- Steve Duchesne was traded to the Flyers for Dave Babych and Philadelphia's 5th round choice (Nathan Marsters) in the 2000 Entry Draft.
November 6, 1999 -- Eric Desjardins (1-2-3) led the Flyers to a 5-3 win in the team's first visit to the Staples Center in Los Angeles. Mark Recchi and John LeClair each had a goal and an assist. The Flyers scored three times on special teams (2 PPGs and 1 SHG). The Flyers held a 33-18 shots advantage including 26-9 through two periods. March 23, 2000 -- Jozef Stumpel (2-1-3) scored with 2:15 left in regulation and then 1:20 into OT to give LA a 3-2 win at Philly. Stephane Fiset made 22 saves. Gino Odjick (1-1-2) gave Philly a 2-1 lead. Kent Manderville had two assists.
January 22, 2001 -- Roman Cechmanek made 27 saves in a 3-0 shutout win at home for the Flyers. Simon Gagne and Mark Recchi scored PPGs. Prior to the second PPG, Cechmanek stopped ex-Flyer Bob Corkum on a shorthanded breakaway. Luke Richardson was credited with a SH-ENG with nine seconds to play when Ziggy Palffy put the puck in his own net. Palffy's attempted pass to the point missed the target and went into the open net. Recchi and Dan McGillis had two points apiece.
February 4, 2002 -- Eric Weinrich (1-1-2) had two points and Roman Cechmanek made 20 saves in the Flyers' 3-1 win in the Staples Center. Weinrich ended a 43-game goal drought and set up Ruslan Fedotenko's SHG, a goal that was originally awarded to Weinrich but was later reversed. "I know I'm not out there to score, so if I get one, I'm happy. A blind squirrel finds an acorn sometimes. You just put your head down and shoot it. It was a lucky goal," said Weinrich.The Flyers outshot LA 9-0 in the first nine minutes of the game. The Flyers improved to 28-0-4 when scoring 3+ goals. The Kings had a 5-on-3 PP for over a minute when the game was scoreless but failed to score. Los Angeles pulled Huet and Kim Johnsson scored into an empty net with 3:05 left to make it 4-0.
March 1, 2003 -- Dmitri Yushkevich was traded to Philadelphia by Los Angeles for a 4th round choice (later traded to Boston who selected Patrick Valcak) in the 2003 Entry Draft and Philadelphia's 7th round choice (Daniel Taylor) in the 2004 Entry Draft.
May 28, 2003 -- Roman Cechmanek was traded to Los Angeles for the Kings' 2nd round choice (later traded to Chicago who selected Bryan Bickell) in the 2004 Entry Draft.
October 21, 2003 -- Roman Cechmanek made 22 saves and recorded his 21st shutout and defenseman Martin Strbak scored his first two NHL goals in the Kings' 4-0 home win. Cechmanek entered the season with a career GAA of 1.96, the lowest since 1943-44 among goaltenders with at least 150 regular-season games. After a scoreless first period, the Kings outshot the Flyers 9-2 in the middle period and scored twice. Keith Primeau and Jeremy Roenick combined to win 32 of 47 faceoffs; the rest of the Flyers went 7-for-22.
August 4, 2005 -- Needing salary cap space, the Flyers dealt Jeremy Roenick to the Kings with Nashville's 3rd round choice (previously acquired, Los Angeles selected Bud Holloway) in the 2006 Entry Draft.
April 19, 2006 -- The Flyers received the 42nd pick (second round pick) in the 2006 NHL Draft, used to select Michael Ratchuk, in exchange for the Kings' hiring scout Dean Lombardi as General Manager.
June 13, 2006 -- Flyers' Director of Player Personnel Ron Hextall joined the Kings as Vice-President and Assistant General Manager.
November 16, 2006 -- R.J. Umberger scored the tying and winning goals 2:30 apart late in the third period and the Flyers rallied for a 4-3 road win. The game was tied through two periods but LA led 3-1 until 6:47 remained when Simon Gagne scored. January 29, 2008 -- Scott Hartnell's reviewed goal with 28.5 seconds remaining was upheld and Philly skated away with a 4-3 home win. The review verified that there was not an intentional kicking motion by Hartnell who streaked towards the net on a feed by Mike Richards. Martin Biron made 29 saves. Braydon Coburn was named the game's top star and gave Philly a 1-0 lead. Jim Dowd was 8-for-8 on faceoffs. The Flyers outshot LA 40-31. Jason LaBarbera made 37 saves.
February 19, 2008 -- Jaroslav Modry was traded by LA for Philly's 3rd round choice (Geordie Wudrick) in the 2008 Entry Draft.
July 1, 2008 -- Denis Gauthier was traded to LA with Philadelphia's 2nd round choice in 2010 Entry Draft (later traded) for Patrik Hersley and Ned Lukacevic.
July 17, 2008 -- Terry Murray, an assistant coach with the Flyers the prior four seasons, became the Kings' head coach, a position he held until December 2011 when he was replaced by John Stevens. Murray rejoined the Flyers' organization in late June 2012 as head coach of the AHL's Phantoms.
January 3, 2009 -- Jonathan Quick stopped 31 shots, including a first period penalty shot by Scott Hartnell, in the Kings' 2-1 shootout home win. In the shootout, Quick stopped shots by Jeff Carter (who had 10 shots on goal) and Mike Richards. Patrick O'Sullivan and Dustin Brown beat Antero Niittymaki, who made 30 saves, in the shootout. June 24, 2010 -- Former Flyers' head coach John Stevens joined the Kings as an assistant coach to Terry Murray.
December 30, 2010 -- Mike Richards (2-2-4) and Claude Giroux (0-3-3) led the Flyers to a 7-4 win in Los Angeles. Michael Leighton made 32 saves in his first appearance of the regular season. The Flyers out-scored L.A. 4-2 in the second period. Jonathan Bernier (16 saves, 22 shots) was replaced by Jonathan Quick (5 saves, 6 shots). The Flyers went 2-for-5 on PPs and scored multiple PPGs for the first time since November 13. June 23, 2011 -- Mike Richards and the rights to Rob Bordson were traded to Los Angeles for Wayne Simmonds, Brayden Schenn and a 2012 2nd rounder which was later traded to Dallas.
October 15, 2011 -- Jack Johnson's PPG 1:39 into OT gave the Kings a 3-2 win in Philly. Jonathan Quick made 32 saves. Justin Williams (2-0-2), Simon Gagne (0-2-2) and Anze Kopitar (0-2-2) had two points and Mike Richards assisted on the GWG. Danny Briere (1-1-2) had two points for the Flyers. March 24, 2014 -- Dwight King snapped a 2-2 tie and Jonathan Quick made 30 saves in the Kings' 3-2 win in Philly which snapped the Flyers 5-game win streak. The Kings led 2-0 through two periods on goals by ex-Flyers Jeff Carter and Justin Williams. In between goals, Vinnie Lecavalier hit both posts and the crossbar on a shot from in-close. Matt Read, at the 29 second mark, and Jake Voracek both scored in the third period.
October 28, 2014 -- Brayden Schenn's OT goal, via replay which overturned an on-ice call, gave Philly a 3-2 home win. Ray Emery made 38 saves. The teams alternated goals in regulation and Mike Richards tied it 2-2 early in the third period. Chris VandeVelde scored his second NHL goal and first as a Flyer in the final minute of the opening period to give Philly a 2-1 lead. Jonathan Quick made 41 saves and was issued a 10-minute misconduct after the video replay gave the Flyers a win. Philly held a 43-40 shots advantage. The Kings played with one less roster player than the usual allotment.

Same. Do not like the Kings. I still have that friend who lived in Pittsburgh for 2 minutes, claimed them because he got into hockey. Got to win a cup. Then moved back to LA now knowing what hockey is. Claimed them and has seen two cups with LA. .... this friend of mine.... ugh. I always enjoy when the Kings lose. My friend needs to know hockey torment instead of being surprised one of his teams didn't win the cup again. He's seen 3 cups in 7-8 years.

Their record is scary, but aside from getting up for a game against the Wild, they've been pounding out soft teams, had the easiest schedule so far. Not saying we'll win, just that it might not be all that hopeless.

Carter could carry a line with scrubs and he always liked Philly so why people hate on him all the time is beyond me.

Anyway I would like to see Schenn have a good game to increase his trade value :sarcasm:

He does need to show he can actually shot the puck on the PP though because Hartnell was a dangerous weapon in that spot and it opened up everyone else more.

So lets go Schenn and lets go Flyers! Lets beat LA and show some of these Flyer fans already putting this season as a losing season that they are wrong and its time to jump on the winning bandwagon......maybe
