- QUOTES -
"First of all (Koepke) played in college, so he wasn't here as much as some other guys, but also a little older, a little more seasoned. I think though especially when you make some deep playoff runs, he's had the ability to ... watch us in the playoffs, was with us, got so see how we operated, how things were done. I think that experience is invaluable. ... But it can't do nothing but help him. Like, it takes away the jitters. At least it should. Make you feel a little more calm, and at ease."
"It's hard to say (if Ryfors looks better this training camp). I think exhibition games pull some of that stuff out. Now is his compete level, his knowledge of our team, our everything, our system, all those things (better)? That's helped him coming into this camp. I think playing in the American League, the rink's a little bit smaller, there's a lot less space, it does nothing but help these kids. So now we're going to see in these exhibition games what it translates to."
"I look at these guys and they start in the minors, and they come up, get a little taste of the NHL, go back to the minors. (Fortier's) compete has never been an issue for that kid. That's all he does, and he does it really well. So now where's his skill, where's his skating, where are all those things? So he's another kid. He's just inching himself closer. As I said, there's spots open, and he's one of the guys vying for one."
"For me, Footer's made huge strides from last year. It was unfortunate because he wasn't in training camp last year, which to me that sets you back when you're not afforded a training camp. It took him months during the year to get himself in a position where I thought he should have been at the begining of last year. Now looking at this training camp, and we've only been here three days, but I really like what I've seen from him. He's further ahead now than he was all last year, and that's a good sign for him, and us."
"This is the process. You get drafted, you go to the American League, you grow, you get your feet wet in the NHL, and then at some point you need to become a regular, and you have to perform. So whether it's Ross or whether it's Footer, or just players inching their way in, you go back and Yanni Gourde did the same thing. We've had a number of players that have always kinda done this, but at some point you have to lean on them, and we're gonna lean on these guys."
LET'S GO BOLTS!
