1992-1995:

November 15, 1992 -- Eric Lindros had his first NHL hat trick and the Crazy Eights Line combined for twelve points (5-7-12) in Philly's 7-2 home win. Lindros (3-1-4), Mark Recchi (1-4-5) and Brent Fedyk (1-2-3) had 29 points in the prior three games and 35 points in the last four games. December 5, 1992 -- Peter Sidorkiewicz made 24 saves in the Senators' 3-2 victory in the Ottawa Civic Center. The first-year Senators entered the game with a 2-23-2 record. The Flyers led 2-1 after two periods but Laurie Boschman and Jamie Baker netted third period goals. The Senators were held to 16 shots. Stephane Beauregard suffered the loss, one of his 16 appearances with the Flyers. A warrant was issued for the arrest of Eric Lindros after a woman accused him of spitting beer in her face on a nightclub dance floor. On February 8, 1993, Lindros was found not guilty after Justice Rhys Morgan issued the acquittal in Oshawa, Ontario.
February 9, 1993 -- Kevin Dineen (3-0-3, seventh career hat trick), Mark Recchi (1-3-4), Pelle Eklund (0-3-3), Eric Lindros (2-0-2) and Tommy Soderstrom (27 saves) led the Flyers to an 8-1 home win. Lindros returned from a knee injury which sidelined him for 12 games. The Senators entered the game with a record of 7-46-4 and fell for the 27th straight time on the road in their inaugural NHL season.
October 27, 1993 -- Rod Brind'Amour (2-0-2) scored twice in the Flyers' 5-2 road win. Eric Lindros (1-1-2) and Mark Recchi (1-1-2) scored first period goals off assists by Pelle Eklund (0-2-2). Vyatcheslav Butsayev's breakaway goal gave Philly a 4-2 lead in the third period. Garry Galley also had two assists. Tommy Soderstrom (10 saves, 10 shots) was replaced by Dominic Roussel (19 saves, 21 shots) after the first period due to dizziness and the following day he had tests performed on his heart which led to a fifth operation. Soderstrom suffered from Wolff-Parkinson-White syndrome.
January 11, 1994 -- Dominic Roussel made 24 stops and Andre Faust, who was promoted from Hershey (AHL) earlier in the day, scored the GWG with 5:06 left in the third period of Philly's 4-1 home win. Dimitri Yushkevich (1-2-3) had three points including a PPG with 1:19 to play which made it 3-1. The Flyers outshot Ottawa 16-4 in the first period but trailed 1-0. With the score even at 1-1, the Flyers' Claude Boivin was handed a five-minute major for slamming Brad Shaw into the boards, which led to a fight between Al Conroy and Sylvain Turgeon. Boivin was traded to Ottawa about two months later for Mark Lamb who requested a trade from the Senators.
February 8, 1994 -- Vladimir Ruzicka's (1-1-2) PPG with 2:47 remaining in the third period finished the scoring in a 3-3 OT tie at the Ottawa Civic Centre. The Flyers led by a goal on three different occasions. The Senators went 3-for-10 on PPs. Mark Lamb (1-2-3) factored in each Ottawa goal, including twice on PPs. Lamb, however, was issued a minor with two minutes left in regulation and which snapped a string of six consecutive infractions called against the Flyers. The Flyers' PP was 0-for-4. Darrin Madeley made 24 stops for Ottawa and Dominic Roussel made 29 saves for the Flyers. Mikael Renberg (2-0-2) had two goals. Bob Wilkie, promoted from the AHL the prior day, scored 1:54 into the game, the only goal of his Flyers' career and the second and final tally in his NHL career. The tie ended the Flyers then-team record six game losing streak. Ottawa had just one win (1-16-4) in the prior 21 games.
March 10, 1994 -- Eric Lindros (1-5-6), Mark Recchi (1-3-4) and Rod Brind'Amour (2-1-3) combined for eight points in the opening 11:56 of Philly's 8-2 home win. Lindros tied a team-record with five assists set by Bobby Clarke in 1976 (since broken) and compiled 27 points (12-15-27) in his most recent 14 games. Brind'Amour scored twice in 54 seconds to put Philly on top 2-0 by the 8:36 mark. Andre Faust added consecutive goals to make it 5-0. The Flyers led 4-0 after one period and 7-0 after 40 minutes. Dominic Roussel made 26 saves for the win. Craig Billington (5/10) gave up five goals and Mark Laforest (12/15) surrendered three. In the third period, the Flyers were whistled for 48 PIMs and nine minors to Ottawa's 26 PIMs and three minors. Stewart Malgunas of the Flyers was tossed for defending Lindros who was elbowed by Darren Rumble. The Flyers had five consecutive PK situations in the third period, all called within a span of under nine minutes.
September 26, 1994 -- The teams were involved in a preseason brawl including two Dave Brown-Bill Huard ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=spMK4fj6g7I ) fights and Eric Lindros-Claude Boivin. Ottawa won at home, 5-2.
February 6, 1995 -- Don Beaupre made 34 saves and recorded Ottawa's first shutout in a 3-0 home win. Among Beaupre's saves was on a penalty shot awarded Mark Recchi. Alexandre Daigle (1-1-2) scored the GWG 1:11 into the opening period and assisted on Alexei Yashin's goal about 10 minutes later. The Senators added an ENG. The Flyers went 0-for-6 on PPs. The game was attended by 9,267 in the Ottawa Civic Centre.
March 16, 1995 -- John LeClair snapped a tie with 2:42 to play and Rod Brind'Amour added the clincher in Philly's 3-1 home win. Craig MacTavish's (1-1-2) second period goal evened the game. The Senators led 1-0 in the first period off a fluky goal scored when a shot deflected off MacTavish's stick with Ron Hextall, who made 15 saves, out of the crease. The Flyers won for the 6th straight time and improved to 11-3-2 since making a blockbuster deal with Montreal the prior month which included LeClair who scored for the 9th time in his first 16 games with the Flyers (14-12-26)
April 26, 1995 -- Ottawa went 3-for-6 on the PP in a 5-2 win at Philly. Steve Larouche had three (1-2-3) of his 18 career points in this game and Don Beaupre made 26 saves. The Flyers owned a record of 9-1-0 in the last ten games while Ottawa was 1-8-1 in the last ten. October 29, 1995 -- Garth Snow made 18 saves in his Flyers' debut and John LeClair (1-2-3) was one of five Flyers who scored in a 5-2 home win. Shjon Podein's third period goal made the score 3-0 but Steve Duchesne and Alexandre Daigle scored in a span of 1:47 to cut Ottawa's deficit to 3-2. Eric Lindros and Mikael Renberg finished the scoring. The Flyers improved to 7-1-2 in their first 10 games. November 16, 1995 -- Rod Brind'Amour (0-4-4) tied a career-high with four assists and Eric Lindros (2-0-2) scored twice, including the GWG, leading the Flyers to a 5-3 home win. Lindros, who missed the prior seven games with a sprained left knee, scored 97 seconds into the game and broke a 3-3 tie early in the third period. Ottawa led 3-2 after two periods but the Flyers scored three times in the first six minutes of the third period leading to the removal of Mike Bales, who surrendered five goals, for Don Beaupre. Ron Hextall made 20 saves. Phil Crowe and Dennis Vial fought.

1996-1999:

March 1, 1996 -- Shjon Podein (2-0-2) scored twice and his third period goal gave Philly a 3-2 win in the team's first visit to Ottawa's Corel Centre. Podein missed three of the prior four games with a foot injury, had not scored since December 16 and had just two assists in his last 26 games (0-2-2). Anatoli Semenov (0-2-2) assisted on both of Podein's goals. Ron Hextall stopped 18 shots. Damian Rhodes made 24 saves.
March 27, 1996 -- John LeClair (1-2-3) had three points in the Flyers' 4-2 win at Ottawa. Eric Desjardins' PPG in the third period snapped a 2-2 tie. Philly outshot Ottawa 36-18 including 25-10 over the last two periods. Rod Brind'Amour, who tied the game 2-2 with 6:01 left in the second period, fought Randy Cunneyworth in the opening period.
November 30, 1996 -- The Flyers held a 31-9 shot advantage and out-scored Ottawa 4-2 in the last two periods of a 4-3 win at Ottawa. February 13, 1997 -- Mikael Renberg's third period goal snapped a 2-2 tie in Philly's 4-2 home win. John LeClair assisted on the last two goals. Garth Snow made 18 saves for the win. Scott Daniels-Phil Crowe and Daniel Lacroix-Denny Lambert fought at the same time; Lambert was tossed for instigating a fight in the second period battle. Eric Lindros suffered a back injury and missed the next two games which eventually resulted in a libel lawsuit against a Philadelphia sports radio station when a host said Lindros was suspended for showing up drunk to the following game. The parties reached a settlement with the station making an on-air apology and contributing to a charity.
February 26, 1997 -- The Legion of Doom Line of Eric Lindros (1-6-7), Mikael Renberg (2-3-5) and John LeClair (3-1-4) combined for 16 points (6-10-16) in the Flyers' 8-5 win at Ottawa. Lindros' career-high seven points was the second highest total in team history (Tom Bladon had eight in 1977) and his six assists set a team record. It was the second time this month (also February 6 vs. Montreal) that the trio established a team-record for most points by one line with 16. The line was a combined +15 with Renberg a +6. LeClair's 40th goal completed his hat trick with 59 seconds left in the third period. Ron Tugnutt (6 saves, 10 shots) was replaced by Mike Bales (14 saves, 18 shots) with Philly leading 4-2 at the 8:19 mark. Shawn McEachern (1-2-3) led Ottawa with three points, all in the first period. The Senators rallied to take a 5-4 lead in the second period but the Flyers scored the last four goals of the game. Garth Snow made 25 saves.
April 6, 1997 -- Pat Falloon scored with 22 seconds left in the second period and Ron Hextall made 18 saves in Philly's 2-1 home win. Seven seconds into the game, Mikael Renberg was whistled for interference but received a laceration requiring over 200 stitches ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pY-fwSxb3SA ) along his chin and right cheek from Randy Cunneyworth's skate and missed the last four games of the regular season. Trent Klatt scored his fifth SHG of the season to give the Flyers a 1-0 lead during the penalty issued to Renberg.
October 3, 1997 -- Eric Lindros (2-1-3) and John LeClair (1-2-3) each had three points in the Flyers' 5-3 home win. Ron Hextall made 29 saves. Trent Klatt scored the GWG 7:21 into the final period. Dainius Zubrus had two assists. Each team had 32 shots. Randy Cunneyworth assisted on each Ottawa goal and Radek Bonk scored twice.
November 8, 1997 -- The Flyers dominated the second period 3-0 in goals and 14-6 in shots en route to a 4-3 win at Ottawa. Chris Gratton and Shjon Podein scored 36 seconds apart in the final 1:19 of the period to put Philly up 4-1. John Druce, demoted three days earlier to the AHL and then recalled, scored his first goal of the season to make it 1-0. Garth Snow made 23 saves. Gratton also fought Stan Neckar.
November 11, 1997 -- Ron Hextall made 16 saves and recorded his 20th shutout and Paul Coffey scored the game's lone goal in a 1-0 win at Philadelphia. Ottawa was held without a shot in the first 16 minutes and Philly held a 12-2 margin after one period. Damian Rhodes made 26 saves in the loss. Afterwards, Coffey said "Some people say that players today are not as good as players before. I think that's a crock. But sometimes, I think the game is not as good as it was before because there is just too much strategy. There's just not a whole lot of ice out there. Traps are fine, but if it is going to be such a cat-and-mouse chess game out there, we've got to get the ice bigger or do something. You're asking big entertainment dollars from the fans. As a player, the bottom line is winning the game, but you still have to entertain out there. You go long stretches of a period without a shot on net, it is not good to watch, but what are you going to do." Janne Niinimaa was a rare healthy scratch and replaced by 39-year old Kjell Samuelsson. Some speculated that Niinimaa was scratched because he attended a Metallica concert the day of the game but head coach Wayne Cashman denied that and the player said "I was told in the morning that I wasn't playing. I wasn't going to the show if I played. Hockey is my first priority.'' Metallica played a concert for about 15,000 fans in the parking lot of the CoreStates Center.
January 3, 1998 -- Eric Lindros (2-2-4), Rod Brind'Amour (2-2-4) and Trent Klatt (0-4-4) led Philly to the team's 12th straight win in this series, 7-2 at Ottawa. Lindros scored on his first two shots on goal which gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead after one period. John LeClair's 32nd goal, tied for the most in the NHL, gave Philly a 3-1 lead. The Flyers out-scored Ottawa 4-1 in the third period and when Brind'Amour made it 6-1 Damian Rhodes (18 saves, 24 shots) was replaced by Ron Tugnutt (3 saves, 4 shots). Vaclav Prospal suffered a fractured left fibula, in a collision with Lance Pitlick, and missed the rest of the regular season.
January 17, 1998 -- Alexandre Daigle was traded to Philadelphia for Vaclav Prospal, Pat Falloon and Dallas' 2nd round choice (previously acquired, Ottawa selected Chris Bala) in the 1998 Entry Draft. At the time of the trade, Flyers' GM Bob Clarke said "What we felt was we needed more speed in our lineup and Daigle is one of the better skaters in the league and he's young (23) and he's got a tremendous upside. We gave up some quality young guys but we got a player we felt we really needed." Flyers' head coach Wayne Cashman said "He brings one of those great skills that is hard to duplicate in the game of hockey and that is exceptional speed. I think he'll fit in well with our hockey club." Falloon said "I guess it's part of the business and Ive just get to go on with my career." Prospal, who was injured (see: January 3, 1998) at the time of the trade, said "I'll be in the NHL. It's going to be the same dream but I guess I'll be living it and playing it somewhere else."
October 29, 1998 -- The Senators scored three times in a span of 3:40 during the first period en route to a 3-1 win Ottawa which halted the Flyers 12-game win streak in this series. Andreas Johansson scored consecutive goals in a span of 75 seconds during the last 1:27 of the opening period. Damian Rhodes made 28 saves and defeated the Flyers for the first time in his career after an 0-8-0 start. Eric Lindros' SHG spoiled the shutout with 9:21 to go and increased his offensive production in this series to 19 goals and 22 assists in 22 games. Lindros leveled Andreas Dackell in the left corner with 4:47 left the first period. Dackell fell to the ice and was motionless for several minutes, his face bloodied as he was mobilized and carried from the ice on a stretcher. "I felt horrible. No one likes to see that. November 1, 1998 -- Damian Rhodes made 25 saves, Steve Martins broke a 3-3 tie in the third period and Vaclav Prospal (0-3-3) had three assists to lead the Senators to a 5-4 win in Philly. Chris Murray gave the Sens a 3-1 lead with four-tenths of a second left in the second period. The Flyers tied the score in the third period. After Martins scored the go-ahead goal, Radek Bonk made it 5-3 1:43 later. John LeClair (2-0-2) and Eric Lindros (1-1-2) each had two points.
January 18, 1999 -- John Vanbiesbrouck stopped 36 shots, including 19 in the second period, to record his sixth shutout of this season and 35th of his career in the Flyers' 5-0 win at Ottawa. The Flyers earned a shutout for the fifth time in their last six games. The Senators entered the game unbeaten in the last 11 games (8-0-3). Eric Desjardins, Eric Lindros and Jody Hull each had a goal and an assist. The Flyers' PK was 7-for-7. Roger Neilson won for the 400th time in regular season NHL play.
February 20, 1999 -- Eric Lindros' consecutive game streak with at least one point was stopped at a team-record-tying 18 games in the Senators 4-1 win at Ottawa; Lindros shared the team record with Bobby Clarke (1975). Ron Tugnutt made 33 saves. Radek Bonk had a goal and an assist. Ottawa scored three third period goals.
March 4, 1999 -- Alexei Yashin (3-1-4) recorded his fifth NHL hat trick and Damian Rhodes registered a 24-save shutout in Ottawa's 5-0 win at Philly. The Senators scored four third period goals including three times in the final 2:55. Jean-Marc Pelletier, the youngest goalie to ever start a game for the Flyers and on his 21st birthday, made his only career appearance for the team. Pelletier was beaten 1:00 into the game by Yashin's 30th goal, a shot from behind the net which deflected into the net off a skate. Pelletier, who finished with 24 saves, held the Senators off the board until 3:59 expired in the third period when Yashin added his 31st goal on a PP. Brian Propp was elected to the Flyers' Hall of Fame in a pregame ceremony.
October 2, 1999 -- Patrick Lalime made 17 saves in Ottawa's 3-0 win in Philly, the season opener for the Flyers. Radek Bonk scored in the opening period and the Senators added two PPGs in the middle period. Mark Eaton became the first Philadelphia-area native to play for the Flyers. Simon Gagne played in his first NHL regular season game. Daniel Alfredsson was named Ottawa's captain that day. Eric Desjardins missed the game after suffereing a preseason injury, he would play in the remaining 81 regular season games and all 18 playoff games (99/100). Rod Brind'Amour (foot fracture) had his consecutive games played streak terminated at 484.
November 28, 1999 -- Shawn McEachern scored a PPG with 18 seconds left to play in the third period, six seconds into a Luke Richardson penalty, and the teams skated to a 3-3 tie in Ottawa. The Senators held a 12-3 shots advantage in the third while the Flyers had a 6-2 edge in OT. Mark Recchi (1-1-2) and Richardson gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead halfway into the opening period. Ron Tugnutt (8 saves, 11 shots) suffered a knee injury and was replaced by Patrick Lalime (14 saves, 14 shots). McEachern, Marian Hossa and Joe Juneau each had a goal and an assist. Prior to the game, at a team breakfast, Bob Clarke addressed the Flyers to dispel a rumor that Eric Lindros was involved in a trade to the Carolina Hurricanes (for Keith Primeau).

2000-2004:

January 20, 2000 -- Valeri Zelepukin and Shawn McEachern swapped second period goals and the teams played to a 1-1 tie in Philadelphia. Zelepukin's goal, from Chris Therien, came 34 seconds after Ottawa took a 1-0 lead. Ron Tugnutt (23 saves) and Brian Boucher (22 saves) played goal. Ottawa's Magnus Arvedson suffered a severe injury when he slammed into an open bench door. Doctors in Philadelphia found a hole in one of his intestines and immediately performed surgery. He injured his groin, punctured his stomach, required abdominal surgery and lost about 20 pounds of muscle but regained 14 by April when he returned for the playoffs. Rod Brind'Amour played in his last game in a Flyers' sweater.
March 28, 2000 -- Kevin Miller (2-0-2) scored consecutive goals as part of a third period four-goal outburst in the Senators 5-2 win in Ottawa. Miller scored the go-ahead goal with 6:23 to play then followed with a PPG. Tom Barrasso made 30 saves including 18-for-18 in the first period. The Flyers outshot Ottawa 18-5 in the first period and 27-10 through 40 minutes but Ottawa held a 14-5 advantage in the last period. John LeClair and Mark Recchi scored within 14 seconds to give Philly a 2-1 lead. Luke Richardson fought Andre Roy in the second period.
October 17, 2000 -- Marian Hossa (1-3-4), Radek Bonk (2-1-3) and Jani Hurme (21 saves) led Ottawa to a 6-1 victory in Philly. Hurme came within 2 1/2 minutes of his first shutout but Keith Primeau scored a PPG. Afterwards, Primeau said "We are not committed to ourselves and each other and to our game plan isn't there. Every guy has to go home and look in the mirror and decide whether he is coming ready to play every night. You won't find many guys in the room right now who are able to do that." Roman Cechmanek (7 saves, 8 shots) made his NHL debut in relief of Brian Boucher (17/22). November 11, 2000 -- Simon Gagne's 85-foot goal 1:42 into the third period snapped a 3-3 tie and Roman Cechmanek made 28 saves in the Flyers' 4-3 home win. Dan McGillis (1-2-3) had three points. The teams alternated the seven goals. Kevin Stevens scored his first goal since November 24, 1999 and snapped a 32-game drought. Radek Bonk, the game's chosen top star, had three assists. The Senators held a 31-18 shots advantage including 28-12 over the last two periods. The Flyers snapped a seven-game (0-5-2) skid to Ottawa.
December 2, 2000 -- Patrick Lalime made 32 saves and Jason York scored twice in Ottawa's 5-3 home win. Alexei Yashin had three assists. March 26, 2001 -- Alexei Yashin scored with 6:59 left in a 3-3 tie at Ottawa. Justin Williams gave Philly a 3-2 lead earlier in the third period. Roman Cechmanek made 30 saves. Patrick Lalime stopped 30 shots. Kent Manderville was credited with a SHG almost four minutes after scoring, when the on-ice call was ruled "no goal" but video replay overturned the decision after a request following the first break in action. Philly lost the services of leading goal-scorer Keith Primeau for the rest of the regular season with a Grade 2 sprain of the MCL when his skate hit a rut after he was hit by Chris Phillips.
October 25, 2001 --Ottawa out-scored the Flyers 4-2 in the third period en route to a 7-2 win in Philly. Marian Hossa had (2-2-4) four points, Marcus Arvedson (1-2-3) had three points and Jani Hurme made 26 saves. Jeremy Roenick was -5. January 15, 2002 -- Jeremy Roenick had (1-2-3) and Roman Cechmanek (36 saves) led the Flyers to a 4-1 win at Ottawa. The Flyers improved to 10-2-1 in the last 13 road games. With a two-goal lead, Kim Johnsson's one-timer from the right faceoff circle, came off a terrific feed from Roenick, who, while on his knees, backhanded a pass with 5:24 remaining.
January 22, 2002 -- Jeremy Roenick and Martin Havlat scored in a 1-1 tie in Philly. Havlat's goal came when Kim Johnsson accidentally tipped the puck behind Roman Cechmanek. Patrick Lalime made 42 saves and Cechmanek stopped 33 shots. The Flyers entered the game with eight straight wins. The Senators played a penalty-free game while the other calls against the Flyers were second period minors to Paul Ranheim and Donald Brashear.
January 30, 2002 -- Jeremy Roenick became the 63rd player to record 1,000 regular season points but the Flyers lost 3-1 at Ottawa ( http://video.nhl.com/videocenter/console?id=122219 ). Zdeno Chara tied the game, Marian Hossa got the GWG with under four minutes to play then Todd White added an ENG all in the third period. Brian Boucher made 29 saves. April 17, 2002 -- In Game 1 of the Eastern Conference QF Series, Ruslan Fedotenko scored at 7:47 of the first OT and Roman Cechmanek stopped all 35 shots in a 1-0 win in Philadelphia. Fedotenko took a pass from a falling Marty Murray for the winning tally. Patrick Lalime entered the series with a lifetime mark of 0-4 in the POs. April 20, 2002 -- In Game 2 in Philadelphia, Daniel Alfredsson scored the Senators' first goal of the series midway in the second period and Patrick Lalime stopped all 33 Flyers' shots in a 3-0 victory. Mike Fisher and Jody Hull added third period goals. Philly outshot Ottawa 33-26.
April 22, 2002 -- In Game 3 in Ottawa, Patrick Lalime stopped 26 shots Radek Bonk snapped a scoreless tie with a PPG early in the third period to lead the Senators to a 3-0 victory. Bonk's goal was his first in 27 PO games and six post-seasons. Ottawa went 1-for-6 on the PP and failed on four chances in the first period; they were successful on their fifth attempt. April 24, 2002 -- In Game 4 in Ottawa, Patrick Lalime made 28 saves and Wade Redden scored with 20 seconds left in the first period, a goal called "deflating" by Jeremy Roenick, in the Senators' 3-0 win. Sami Salo and Marian Hossa added second period goals. After Ottawa's third goal, Roman Cechmanek had a tirade towards the Flyers' bench. "I was yelling at them to play hockey. They had too many breakaways on me. I was not frustrated. But I played 100 percent. I can't score goals. I can't do anything more than I was doing. I wanted them to play," said Cechmanek (16 saves, 19 shots) who was replaced by Brian Boucher (6 saves, 6 shots) for the third period. The Flyers' PP was 0-for-7 including failing on a double minor issued to Zdeno Chara in the first period. Ottawa was 0-for-8 on PPs. Mark Recchi didn't play due to headaches resulting from a Chara hit in Game 3 and was replaced by Pavel Brendl. April 26, 2002 -- In Game 5 in Philadelphia, Martin Havlat's OT PPG, with Keith Primeau serving a 2-minute minor for cross-checking, clinched the series for Ottawa in a 2-1 win. Patrick Lalime made 25 saves. Ottawa was 2-for-4 on PPs. Daniel Alfredsson's PPG tied the game in the first period after Dan McGillis' PPG 3:53 into the contest snapped the Flyers' offensive drought at 320:36 without a post-season regulation goal. Brian Boucher made 25 saves in the loss. Lalime became the eighth goalie in NHL history to have three shutouts in one series and the fifth goalie to have three consecutive PO shutouts. The Flyers two goals in a five-game series set an NHL record low. Later in the month, Flyers' head coach Bill Barber was fired which led to goalie Boucher saying "All he ever said was 'Work harder.' We needed a game plan to somehow counter what they were doing. There's always a way to come up with a counter." Said Mark Recchi "If there was a direction and philosophy from September on, it wouldn't have been a problem (now)." Keith Primeau said "We know when we are making mistakes. We're getting yelled at when we come back to the bench. We'll make an adjustment and he wants the players to make the adjustment. Well, our job is to play. I felt like I was having to make adjustments on the bench, and I don't feel that is part of my job description." Primeau also said "We had the worst power play in the league, so why weren't we practicing it? They can say we have the guys to get it done, [but] when you are being forced on the half wall, you need to be able to make a pass to an open guy."
October 29, 2002 -- Roman Cechmanek made 29 saves and Keith Primeau scored twice in Philly's 2-1 home win. Primeau scored 23 seconds into the game then added the tie-breaking goal with 2:59 remaining in the second period. Jason Spezza, in his third NHL game, scored his first career goal to tie the game 1-1. Patrick Lalime made 26 saves in the loss. The Senators outshot Philly 30-28.
December 21, 2002 -- Patrick Lalime made 27 saves and Peter Schaefer snapped a 1-1 tie with a goal 7:30 into the third period in Ottawa's 3-1 win in Philly. Ottawa had only one shot in the first 15 minutes. Mike Fisher gave the Senators a 1-0 lead with 1:34 left in the opening period, on a PP. The Senators were on a 15-2-3 stretch in their last 20 games.
December 23, 2002 -- In the back end of a home-and-home series, Simon Gagne scored 5:16 into the third period and Robert Esche made 26 saves in a game that ended 2-2 at Ottawa. Gagne was fed by Jeremy Roenick who stole the puck near center ice from Daniel Alfredsson. Roenick returned to the lineup after a two-game suspension for a hard check on Dallas' Mike Modano. Afterwards, Roenick said "It was a great hockey game -- everything you want in a National Hockey League game. It was physical, it was hard-hitting, there was a lot of after-the-whistle stuff, and some great two-way plays. It was a fun game.'' Patrick Lalime made 28 saves for Ottawa and both Senators' goals came via special teams.
February 6, 2003 -- Roman Cechmanek made 43 saves and Eric Chouinard (1-1-2) had two points in a 2-2 tie at Ottawa. Chouinard, who was acquired January 29 from Montreal, tied the game 1-1 on the PP and then added an assist on Jeremy Roenick's third period tying goal. Marcus Ragnarsson assisted on both goals for the Flyers. Ottawa's Daniel Alfredsson assisted on goals by Zdeno Chara and Todd White. The Senators held a 45-30 shots advantage, including 33-23 after two periods. Martin Prusek made 28 saves.
April 25, 2003 -- In Game 1 in Ottawa, Marian Hossa (1-2-3) had three points and Patrick Lalime made 23 saves in Ottawa's 4-2 home win. The Flyers led 2-0 and held a miniscule 4-2 shots advantage though the first period. Ottawa out-scored the Flyers 3-0 in the second period and the shots were 16-13 in the Flyers' favor. The Flyers outshot Ottawa 5-2 in the third period for a total of 25-17 in the game. Tony Amonte, who scored 1:19 into the game, Jeremy Roenick (0-2-2) and Sami Kapanen (1-1-2) accounted for the two goals. However, by the game's midway point, the Senators held a 3-2 lead with Daniel Alfredsson's PPG finishing a run of three goals in just under seven minutes. A shaky Roman Cechmanek was called out after the game by Ken Hitchcock who said "He is going to have to play better."
April 27, 2003 -- In Game 2 in Ottawa, Roman Cechmanek stopped 33 shots, including 17 in the middle period, and was called "terrific" by teammate Jeremy Roenick, while Simon Gagne and Mark Recchi scored in a 2-0 Flyers' win. Ottawa outshot Philly 33-23 but failed on all six PPs. Patrick Lalime made 21 saves. After the game, Ken Hitchcock said "I didn't think we played very well. I thought we played better in the first game. I don't think we played well until we got mad.''
April 29, 2003 -- In Game 3 in Philly, Wade Redden scored 6:43 into OT and the Senators regained home ice advantage with a 3-2 win in Philadelphia. The Flyers were 35-0-3 when entering the third period with a lead that season but Ottawa evened the game 2-2 with a PPG bt Marian Hossa 0:22 into the third period. Ottawa was 0-for-22 in team playoff history when trailing after 40 minutes. Philly scored first and later had a 2-1 lead when Sami Kapanen scored. The Flyers won 41 of 70 faceoffs including Keith Primeau winning 20 of 27. Ottawa was a perfect 2-for-2 on the PP. Patrick Lalime made 20 saves in the win. Roman Cechmanek made 27 saves in the loss.
May 1, 2003 -- In Game 4 in Philly, Roman Cechmanek made 28 saves and Michal Handzus scored the game's only goal with under three minutes left in the first period in a 1-0 win for the Flyers. Ottawa outshot Philly 28-26 including 11-5 in the third period. Ken Hitchcock said of Cechmanek's goaltending "He answered the bell again. Today, the roller coaster was on the start position. We'll see where it is Saturday." The Flyers spent the previous night in a Philadelphia hotel to avoid distractions. Patrick Lalime made 25 saves.
May 3, 2003 -- In Game 5 in Ottawa, the Senators scored five straight goals after the Flyers took a 1-0 lead at the 0:21 mark and recorded a 5-2 win. Ottawa was 2-for-7 on the PP. Radek Bonk (1-1-2) had two points. Patrick Lalime made 17 saves. Ottawa led 2-1 after one period and 4-1 after two periods. Roman Cechmanek was replaced by Robert Esche, who made his NHL PO debut, with the Flyers trailing 4-1. The Senators outshot Philly 30-19. The Flyers' PP went 0-for-22 in six road PO games in 2003.
May 5, 2003 -- In Game 6 in Philly, the Senators advanced to the Eastern Conference Finals for the first time in their history with a 5-1 win. Peter Schaefer and Mike Fisher (SHG) scored by the 7:00 mark to give the Senators a 2-0 lead. Ottawa increased the lead to 4-0 in the middle period. Patrick Lalime made 18 saves. Ottawa outshot Philly 30-19. Series Recap: Ottawa was 6-for-25 on PPs while the Flyers failed to score on any chance going 0-for-17 and also allowed two SHGs. Flyers' head coach Ken Hitchcock said "The thing I'm disappointed with is we got beaten on special teams soundly." Of goalie Roman Cechmanek, Hitchcock said "I think Roman has tremendous instincts, but there are aspects that show up, when you play the same team over and over again, that he has to work on. I think he is a very good athlete and goaltender, but there are things in these two series that got exposed. Those are things that are workable and have to show improvement and get better." Hitchcock also added of Cechmanek "He has to take a step back and evaluate his own performance in the playoffs. I am curious after a month or so after we talk again where he is at on the learning curve. I think what happened to Roman happens to a lot of goaltenders who go through mounting pressure of people watching, where the goalie becomes the focus point of trying to win a series against a significant opponent. I think he succumbed to that pressure. I want to ask him questions and want him to be candid about why there were times when it got so wacky. There were some very highlight-film, 'you've got to see this' goals that went in. I want to have those conversations with him and I want candid observations back. If he can figure out why, then we've got a really good situation." Marian Hossa (2-6-8), Wade Redden (1-4-5), Daniel Alfredsson (4-0-4), Martin Havlat (3-1-4), Bryan Smolinski (2-2-4) and Radek Bonk (1-3-4) all had four or more points for the Senators. Sami Kapanen (2-1-3), Tony Amonte (1-2-3) and Jeremy Roenick (0-3-3) led the Flyers with three points. Eric Desjardins missed the entire series with a foot injury suffered against Toronto in the previous round. Ottawa compiled an NHL best 113 points but lost in seven games to New Jersey in the following round.
December 1, 2003 -- Martin Havlat scored twice in the second period to make it 2-0 and Martin Prusek made 31 saves in Ottawa's 4-1 home win. The Flyers entered the game with the NHL's most points. Afterwards, coach Ken Hitchcock said ""I think there are some psychological issues that need to get dealt with. Whether we've got to draw them out or whatever, I think those are real and they've got to get dealt with. If we want to be a championship team, we cannot pretend that the psychological issues are going to be hidden. They are preventing people from performing at their best."
February 26, 2004 -- The Flyers' Sean Burke made 40 saves, including seven in OT, in a 1-1 tie at Ottawa. Marian Hossa and Simon Gagne exchanged first period PPGs. Ottawa outshot Phily 41-18. Martin Havlat was tossed with a a match penalty for swinging his stick at Mark Recchi leading to multiple stitches to Recchi's upper lip. Afterwards, coach Ken Hitchcock said "He's a reckless player and someday someone is going to make him eat his lunch. He's going to get it someday, and it's going to be harsh." Recchi added "He's known for it. It might not come from our team, it might come from some other team, but he will because he's cheap and he does stupid stuff like that. He'd better learn to protect himself." Havlat was eventually suspended for two games, his second suspension of the season, and said "I don't feel good about what I did. I wanted to hit him, but not in the face. It was a bad decision and we'll see what happens."
March 5, 2004 -- The Flyers won 5-3 at home in a game highlighted by an NHL-record 419 PIMs (prior mark was 406, North Stars at Bruins in 1981), including 409 PIMs in the third period which also established an NHL record (prior mark was 372, Kings at Flyers in 1979). The Flyers had 213 PIMs and the Senators had 206 PIMs. Robert Esche made 20 saves, John LeClair (0-3-3) had three assists and Alex Zhamnov (1-1-2) and Michal Handzus (0-2-2) had two points. Chris Neil gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead but Claude Lapointe and Mark Recchi scored 30 seconds apart and Danny Markov made it 3-1 with what was the 10,000th goal in Flyers' history ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=PyMF5Cb2A8A ). Kim Johnsson, the game's top star, made it 4-1 in the second period. Tony Amonte played in his 1,000th game and became the 201st NHL player to reach the number and the 12th player to accomplish it while in a Flyers' uniform. With 1:45 remaining and the Flyers ahead 5-2, the first set of brawls took place which eventually necessitated the replacement of goalies Esche and Patrick Lalime. April 2, 2004 -- Martin Prusek made 39 saves and Zdeno Chara had two (1-1-2) points in the Senators' 3-1 victory in Philadelphia. Antoine Vermette gave Ottawa a 1-0 lead, a goal described by Robert Esche as "It's not a great goal. It's not even a decent goal. Right now, that seems to be the way things are going for me." The Flyers held a 40-19 shots advantage. There game had 12 PIMs, less than a month after the teams were whistled for 419 PIMs. Mark Recchi was chosen the Flyers' MVP in a pregame ceremony.

2005-2009:

October 30, 2005 -- Robert Esche made 39 saves, including 20 of 21 in the third period, and Mike Knuble scored twice in Philly's 5-3 win at Ottawa. Joni Pitkanen, Eric Desjardins and Peter Forsberg each had two assists and Simon Gagne (1-1-2) also had two points. Philly went 3-for-10 on the PP including Jon Sim's goal with 20 seconds left in the second period to make it 4-2. Ottawa was 2-for-9 with the man advantage. Simon Gagne (1-1-2), in his return after missing the previous five games with a groin injury, made it 4-0 near the game's midway point. The Senators scored twice within 80 seconds late in the second period to cut the Flyers' lead in half. Ottawa made it 4-3 just 12 seconds after Derian Hatcher's minor expired - the fifth consecutive infraction against the Flyers including 1:07 of a successful 2-man kill. Philly went 2-for-4 on the PP while Ottawa was 1-for-7.
February 11, 2006 -- Dominik Hasek made 29 saves and Ottawa scored the first three goals in a 3-2 home win. The Senators received goals by Antoine Vermette, Vaclav Varada and Dany Heatley. With the Flyers down 2-0 and being outshot 13-4 at the 14-minute mark, Robert Esche (11 saves, 13 shots) was replaced by Antero Niittymaki who stopped 21 of 22 shots in relief.

Comrie was one of three Senators' players who used a special edition pink stick in support of the 2nd Annual Tribute to Hockey Moms to raise money for breast cancer research; his mother passed away when he was 10. September 18, 2007 -- During a preseason game at the John Labatt Centre in London, Ontario, Steve Downie leveled Dean McAmmond who suffered a concussion and missed ten games. Each team missed on its first shot and scored on its second attempts (Antoine Vermette, who also scored in regulation, for Ottawa and Kimmo Timonen for Philly). Ottawa outshot the Flyers 5-4 in OT. Martin Biron made 33 saves. The Flyers rallied from a 2-0 deficit. Claude Giroux made his NHL debut for the Flyers wearing number 56.
February 28, 2008 -- Martin Biron made 32 saves and Mike Knuble (2-0-2) scored twice in the Flyers' 3-1 home win. Jason Spezza's PPG snapped a scoreless tie early in the second period. Biron, feeling that Spezza was taunting by a prolonged celebration near the crease, pushed him twice and afterwards said â€œI even had time to think about it, thatâ€™s how long it took. I decided to push him in the numbers. July 8, 2008 -- Flyers' captain and UFA Jason Smith signed a two-year contract with the Senators.
November 6, 2008 -- Dany Heatley scored in his fifth straight game and Jesse Winchester (1-1-2) recorded his first NHL goal in the Senators' 4-1 home win. The Flyers received just one infraction in the game, a 5-minute boarding major to Braydon Coburn in the first period in which Heatley made it 2-0 with a PPG. Ottawa had three minors in the game, all in the third period. Alex Auld stopped 17 shots for the victory.
December 23, 2008 -- Simon Gagne (1-1-2) snapped a 4-4 tie with 5:30 to play in the Flyers' 6-4 home win. February 12, 2009 --Brian Elliott made 33 saves and the line of Dany Heatley (2-0-2), Jason Spezza (1-1-2) and Daniel Alfredsson (0-1-1) recorded five points in Ottawa's 5-3 win in Philadelphia. Antoine Vermette added two points. The Flyers outshot Ottawa 36-23.
April 4, 2009 --Alex Auld made 31 saves and Mike Fisher scored on Ottawa's fifth shootout attempt to give the Senators a 4-3 home victory. The Senators won the shootout 2-1 and the Flyers' lone goal, by Daniel Briere, was confirmed after a video review. Antero Niittymaki made 35 saves. Daniel Carcillo, 24 PIMs, was ejected after boarding Filip Kuba early in the first period. Darroll Powe scored on a penalty shot to bring Philly within 2-1, the first of three straight Flyers' goals. Jason Spezza evened the game 3-3 early in the third period. Jeff Carter won 14 of 20 faceoffs.
November 12, 2009 -- Ray Emery faced his former squad for the first time and made 22 saves while Danny Briere scored twice in his return to the lineup in Philly's 5-1 home win. Briere, who played his first game in 16 days, was joined by Jeff Carter, Chris Pronger and Kimmo Timonen with two points apiece. Blair Betts snapped a scoreless tie with his first Flyers' goal near the game's midway point. The Flyers went 2-for-4 on the PP and Ottawa scored on its only chance. James van Riemsdyk, on a great feed from Carter, scored the GWG via the PP 1:24 after Mike Fisher tied the game. The Flyers scored three times in the final period. January 3, 2010 -- Alex Kovalev (4-1-5) had four goals and the Senators out-scored Philly 3-0 in the final period in Ottawa's 7-4 home win. Kovalev, who completed his hat trick 2:57 into the third period, and Anton Volchenkov (0-3-3) combined for eight points and both were +5 in the game while teammate Mike Fisher was a +4 and won 14 of 19 faceoffs. Chris Kelly (2-1-3) and Ryan Shannon (0-3-3) each had three points. Claude Giroux (-6), Simon Gagne (-5) and Mike Richards (-4) had dismal +/- numbers. The Flyers led 1-0 but the Senators scored four times in the first period in a span of 7:10 to pull ahead 4-1. The Flyers scored three times in the second period to even the game 4-4. Both starting goalies were pulled: Michael Leighton (5 saves, 7 shots) after 9:07 in favor of Brian Boucher (21/26) and Ottawa's Pascal Leclaire (7/10) was removed for Brian Elliott (10/11).
March 23, 2010 -- Brian Elliott made 26 saves and Chris Kelly and Daniel Alfredsson scored in Ottawa's 2-0 home win. Simon Gagne was issued 19 minutes in penalties following Alfredsson's goal when he jumped Anton Volchenkov ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=wvujPX0AZac ) after being checked by him into the boards from behind. Peter Laviolette said "That's a dangerous hit. The hits from behind are supposed to be called. [The referee] said he didn't get a look at it." Gagne got a double minor for instigating a fight with a visor, a major for fighting, and a 10-minute misconduct. "In my head it was dangerous. I was expecting a penalty on their side. It was a hit from behind. It's not part of the game and it shouldn't happen," said Gagne. Volchenkov, who was given only a roughing minor, said "I like to play physical, but I like to play clean physical. Sometimes maybe dirty, but that's hockey." The Senators failed to score on the eventual 7-minute power play. Earlier, the Flyers failed to score on a full 2-minute 5-on-3. November 15, 2010 -- Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves and Mike Richards (2-1-3) and Claude Giroux added (1-2-3) three points each in the Flyers' 5-1 home win. Richards' goals came within 90 seconds in the third period to give the Flyers a 5-1 advantage. Richards recorded his 300th career point and also scored his 22nd career SHG which moved him past Rick MacLeish into fifth place on the Flyers' all-time SHG list. Philly took a season-high 46 shots and outshot Ottawa 46-29. Brian Elliott, who entered the game with career numbers against the Flyers of 4-0-0, 0.83 GAA, .969 save percentage and two shutouts, made 41 saves in the loss. Ottawa had a 5-on-3 for 1:41 but failed to score in the second period. Richards' second goal made it 3-0 late in the middle period but the Senators scored twice before the break. The Flyers scored three times in under five minutes in the third period and Brian Elliott (16 saves, 22 shots) was replaced by Mike Brodeur (1 save, 1 shot). October 18, 2011 -- The Flyers led 4-0 after the opening period en route to a 7-2 win at Ottawa. The Flyers improved to 4-0-1 in the early season and snapped a 7-game (0-5-2) losing skid in the building. First star Matt Read (1-3-4) had four points and was a +3. Fourteen players had points including 11 forwards, the exception being Danny Briere who won 10 of 13 faceoffs. Sergei Bobrovsky made his season debut and stopped 21 shots. March 31, 2012 -- Jason Spezza's shootout goal preceded a miss by Danny Briere and Craig Anderson made 36 saves in Ottawa's 4-3 win at Philly. The Senators won the 3-round shootout 2-1. The Senators led 3-0 through the first period but the Flyers evened the score 3-3 in the second period, a rally which began when Brayden Schenn's shot deflected off the face of Wayne Simmonds. It marked the fifth time this season the Flyers rallied from three goals down (3-1-1 record) to tie or go ahead in a game. The Flyers had a PP for the last 49 seconds of OT. The Flyers out-hit the Senators 42-36. Daniel Alfredsson (1-1-2) had two points.
March 2, 2013 -- Ilya Bryzgalov made 33 saves and Jake Voracek and Wayne Simmonds scored second period goals in the Flyers' 2-1 home win. All three goals were scored in a span of 6:47. Ben Bishop made 39 saves. Each team was 0-for-5 on PPs and the Flyers failed on a 2-minute 5-on-3 late in the game; Ottawa had a PP for the last 46 seconds of regulation. April 27, 2013 -- Steve Mason made 43 saves and Jake Voracek scored with 9:58 left in the Flyers' 2-1 win at Ottawa. The Flyers finished the season with a 23-22-3 mark and with a four-game win streak. Mason was credited with an assist on the winning goal and also won for the 100th time in his regular season career. November 19, 2013 -- The Flyers took advantage of a no-goal confirmation after a video review and skated to a 5-2 home win. Kimmo Timonen (1-2-3) had three points and was a +3. Timonen, Sean Couturier (first goal in 25 games) and Adam Hall (ended a 64 game skid) each scored their first goals of the season. The defining moment of the game came with 10:30 remaining and the score even at 2-2, Kyle Turris's shot bounced off Nick Grossmann's skate in the crease and a lengthy video review at the first stoppage in play, 1:24 later, confirmed the on-ice no-goal call. On the following shift, 36 seconds later, Timonen broke the tie then Wayne Simmonds made it 4-2 23 seconds later. Turris failed on a penalty shot with 5:06 to play. Hall, who added an ENG, continued his recent dominance in the dot by winning 11 of 13 draws and 41 of 48 faceoffs in the last six games. The Flyers led 2-0 but Ottawa tied the game with two PPGs, the second coming early in the third period. Both teams led at two different points. Michael Raffl scored his first NHL goal which gave Philly a 1-0 lead. 2015-2019:

January 6, 2015 -- Steve Mason made 41 saves and Wayne Simmonds scored the GWG as the Flyers snapped a 10-game losing streak in shootouts with a 2-1 home win (2-1 shootout win in 5 rounds). Mika Zibanejad and Jake Voracek scored in the first round. Mike Hoffman snapped a scoreless tie 6:36 into the third period but Simmonds' PPG tied it 2:23 later. Craig Anderson made 33 saves. Brayden Schenn suffered a cut to his chin that required 15-to-20 stitches after contact was made with Simmonds' blade. It was the third time in the last four games that a Flyers' player had been cut by a blade (also Michael Del Zotto and Claude Giroux). The game was the Flyers first in Philadelphia since December 18 after eight consecutives games on the road.
March 15, 2015 -- Bobby Ryan scored the only shootout goal and in the last round to give Ottawa a 2-1 home win. Goalie Andrew Hammond began his career with a 10-0-1 mark and allowed two goals or less in each start. Hammond and Ray Emery, who last played February 19, each made 27 saves. Both teams scored in the second period including Jake Voracek's first even-strength goal since December 21 (38 games). Ottawa entered the game 13-2-1 in the prior 16 games.

In Game 3 of the Preliminary Round vs. the Edmonton Oilers, Ken Linseman scored 3:56 into double OT to lift the Flyers to a 3-game sweep, 3-2. Linseman missed Game 2 due to a stomach virus and arrived to Edmonton separately from the team. The GWG was scored after Wayne Gretzky fed Don Murdoch for a breakaway but Phil Myre, in his first PO action as a Flyer, stopped the shot and eventually Linseman skated up ice. Myre made 41 saves.

Florida just won over Boston. If Ottawa beats the Flyers, they need no other help, they are in.

Still hoping we can get it to a point where the Penguins would be out though, but I'll take the Bruins. Fire Julien, Hextall gets him if he doesn't get Babcock.

If the pens lose tomorrow and they're put in a situation where we can eliminate them by losing this, they need to take extreme measures to assure that happens.

Sit G and V. Call up whoever's on the Phantom's 4th line. Time for Stolarz's first NHL game. Do whatever's necessary.

Unfortunately the pens would also have to lose to Buffalo, for the Penguins to miss the playoffs they need to get no more then 1 point in the next two games and for Boston and Ottawa to win on Saturday.

That being said it would be the most hilarious thing ever if the Penguins missed because they couldn't beat the Sabres.

Boston blew it, if they won, they'd be in the final spot w/ Pitt looking out.

If Pitt lost tonight, they'd have to win vs Buffalo, not challenging, but they wouldn't be able to control their fate, Ottawa & Boston winning keeps them out.

Very possible they lose tonight, but as crappy as they are playing, I'd be shocked if they lost to Buffalo.

I have a hazy memory of a minor penalty (in the last ten years) being called against an opposing team which had possession of the puck but stayed behind their own net for what was determined to be an excessive amount of time.

The on-ice officials have ability to control game flow within the rules. The NHL probably send a stern reminder and reinforces protocol to each team and the scheduled on-ice officials to properly determine game flow as is within the rules and limit any pretenses that may occur.

Finally the final game of the year. Sucks that we have to wait till the playoffs to get a strong indication about what this team will be trying to do though. After the cup I am sure many out there will start the rumor mill engines and it will take off. I can see a crazy off season if the cap does go up to around 72-73 million.
