Here comes #6.

Then we get to play Vegas and a hot CBJ.

We could easily be on an 8 game losing streak this time next week.

Basically the only chance we have is if Haggar goes to hit Blake Wheeler and bounces off so far and so hard that Wheeler is incapacitated with laughter and has to go into the quiet room.

We are probably going to get killed, though.

It really just comes down to whether individuals like Filppula, Hagg, MacDonald, or Manning sink us or not.

The team overall played well enough to get points in the last two games if these guys didn't decide to make an impact on the game.

It isn't just on the garbage. Our top players need to produce. Only once in our last 6 games did we score 3 or more goals. Everybody needs to step it up if we want to make the playoffs.

They're not playing bad at all, even during these losses.

Giroux has 6 points in 5 games
Voracek and Patrick each have 4 points
TK has 3 goals

They deserved at least a point last night. We could have won against the Pens if it wasn't for MacDonald singlehandedly throwing the game. Or against TB if Mrazek could stop a single puck.

The only two obviously deserved losses were against Carolina and Florida.

The record makes it look worse than it really is... this isn't some massive slump where everything is going wrong. It's a mix of bad luck and really bad play from a small part of the team... basically 4 players.

If you take out that anomaly of a TB game the numbers aren't as impressive. Again excluding the Tampa bay game we haven't scored more than 2 goals in a game. 2! In 5 f***ing games.

Sure, AMac and Filppula made that Pens game look worse than it actually was, and sure Mrazek and Lyon can't stop a beach ball, but ultimately you will not win many games if you can't score goals.

Couturier is ultra-snakebitten. Voracek has been a turnover machine. Konecny (not his fault) is for some f***ing reason getting reduced minutes. Lindblom, for as well as he has played has yet to even register a point. The powerplay has been garbage lately too. This losing streak falls on the whole team not just the usual trash.

I am confident that the top guys will get on a roll and we will maintain a WC spot, but there are plenty of reasons for pessimism right now.

All we need to do is put weal in for read. That should get us 1 point. We will get the other one by benching TK. Or maybe the other way around.

I wouldn’t be surprised if we won 2-1 or something.

It would be pretty typical of this Jerk off and Hide coach to lead us to victory after the recent stupidity.

EDIT: HAHA Curse Filter! **** YOU!

Nah, it really is that the Flyers have no depth beyond the top six. They have a couple of nice individual pieces (Laughton and Raffl), but the slop they play around is borderline even being NHL talent, outside of Simmonds who is having a terrible second half to the year/has never been a particularly good even strength player. The top six can't be expected to carry a team every night.

They can't be expected too, nor are they right now.

There's reasons to be unhappy, sure, but the problem is too many posts are overly pessimistic and exaggerating the problems.

And yeah, there's been plenty of bad luck, but Voracek has been really annoying lately. So often he'll make brain dead plays where you just stare in shock... like "what the hell did I just watch?...

Just wait until we lose to Winnipeg, Vegas and CBJ then you will see some real hot takes. :naughty:

Maybe Jake feels like he has to do "more" as he is playing with 2 rookies and that has resulted in his play of late :dunno:

Contrary to the PGT, we do have plenty of reasons for optimism.
  • Patrick could end up being our best center going into 2018-2019.
  • Ghost/Provorov is the best top pair we have had in a long time.
  • Giroux resurgence and Couturier's offensive explosion will maybe give us an earlier than expected window to compete for a cup.
  • We have a multitude of excellent prospects and a handful will be on the team next year.
  • The Blues 1st is shaping up to be a 11th-14th pick.
  • Manning/Filppula/Read are all on their final year of their deals (this could become a major negative though, if any resign)

Also, the garbage players are responsible for pretty regular catastrophic ****-ups that really mess with momentum, so it creates even heavier lifting for the top players. Andy could be fine, more or less, by his standards, for 59 minutes, and then trip over his own ankle and start a chain reaction of disasters that costs us a Hak point or even two points. It's not like it's an uncommon occurrence, and we have two more just like him back there, pulling pins and chucking grenades at themselves.

I'd be really surprised if they lose all three of those games.

And yep, that's exactly why I'm saying the over the top pessimism is pointless. All the things you listed, plus many others. There's way more good than bad, even right now when they're losing. It's not as if the entire team is broken and we're just starting to try to fix it... we're well on our way to having a really good roster. They've proven they can win in spite of Hakstol, so if Hextall makes the roster changes I expect, next years team will be quite a bit better than this years.

Obviously, I've made my feelings on Hakstol known, but the silver lining is he does sometimes eventually figure out the right move. It takes him too long, but eventually he realized he needed to put TK on the top line, Ghost and Provorov together, and he put together our current 2nd line surprisingly fast after Lindblom came up. So even if he's here next year, which I expect he will be, it's not a sunk year at all. Lots of teams win in spite of their coach.
