Coots would be a great add to any team that has a legit #1 centre.
Ala pens when they had j staal slotted there. Bschenn isn't capable of being that guy so coots is essentially playing two roles...

Coots is fine for us in that 3rd line role, taking the dzone faceoffs and playing the hard minutes that displace giroux from doing so.

We need to find that 2nd line center, and it pains me that we haven't given Schenn a chance to be on a line with voracek especially considering what they were able to do during the lockout year.

If he isnt the answer and laughton isnt the answer then we need to get in the top 5 of this draft and come away with either marner or strome.

Too soon to give up on Coutsie. I don't really see "it" from him a lot, but he's too young to draw conclusions.

And one shouldn't underestimate the undesirable effects of playing on a bad team, mediocre linemates, lack of role models on the roster, etc on a young player's development.

Alright I'm not going to bash or anything and I'm not going to throw stats at you, I'm going to ask you, in your next game sit down and watch with a pad and paper and just count the number of Offensive, Defensive and Neutral zone starts Couturier gets, then write down who the other team has on the ice, just #s so you aren't busy writing all the names, you can sort those out later. It's simple to track and won't take anything away from your watching experience. Just try it then look at it and tell us what you think about it.

I'm a big Couturier supporter and generally agree with what most of the pro couturier crowd says. That being said, While more offensive zone starts would help him generate more points and/or chances, he has been getting a decent number of chances lately and just hasn't been able to bury them. Better zone starts or linemates are going to help him put the puck into empty nets or bury breakaways.

I wouldn't take this game too seriously, 2nd game in two nights on the road, after a heartbreaker that effectively ended their season - ya think they might be a little flat?

It's a mediocre team, has been all season, it's what Hextall was handed by Holmgren. Fortunately Hextall had no delusions and managed to add 5 draft picks in the first 100 to the two picks Holmgren left him. Now if there was someway he could make Holmgren's contracts disappear! (MacDonald, Vinnie and Umberger/Hartnell).

The real problem is there is no quick fix - the farm system was gutted and is just now starting to fill up with talent. They need two top flight drafts, some FA signings (college, foreign, not high priced talent) and some luck.

Damn...I know its out-dated but I would love for somebody on the Devils to get that ass beat at least once a game against the Flyers. Everything they're about pisses me off.

I'm surprised the Flyers haven't gotten tired of losing to that trash heap of players over there that they just don't get mad and punch somebody in the damn face.

sorry coots has tied goals ten points less but the season is still moving forward...he is still slow and has no hands...but still have hope he can move forward... as i said previously Flyers need more scorers to compliment giroux and vorachek...but coots...just not buying it...thats why its a forum...
Costly turn overs...statistically from an nhl stand point insignificant...coots is insignificant...never will be...time will tell...be glad if he proves me wrong so far...im right on...

you win with players like Couturier.
not people want to hear it, but its true. He is 22 years old and hasn't even come close to reaching his peak years. 35-45 points every year and gives you ELITE defense. If he was traded there is not one single player who could replace what he brings. Go on with your hatred of him. whatever.
Sure the Flyers need to find more scoring. no doubt about it, but trading him to get it would be a mistake.
Insignificant. give me a ******* break. get a clue already.

These are valid criticism's but I think you'll see more of these things going in the back of the net with more offensive exposure and chances. You can't develop an offensive game when you are constantly asked to play a purely defensive role, even if you get opportunities you are never going to be able to fully commit to the offensive side of the puck and develop it if you are never given the chance to. Couturier plays the hardest worst minutes in all of the NHL. No one sees better competition or worse zone starts. He will never develop offensively being used that way.

.

they have won 9 games in 34 road games this season. I don't think anyone should be shocked at losses on the road this year. only 3 teams have fewer road wins. Probably not difficult to figure out who they are.

I'm one of the biggest Cooter supporters there are, but him missing that open net which in turn led to the goal against was absolutely perfect. You have no idea how fast I went over to Facebook and other Cooter bashing hotspots to get entertainment out of the reactions from all of those mouth breathers. It made my day.

When is the last time Couturier even had two bad games in a row? Never, beyond now? There are very few 22 year olds who have been as reliable as he has since coming into the league at 18.

Sure, Couts' missed opportunity was frustrating, but to be fair the Devils got a lucky bounce and ALL of our D just sort of tripped over themselves. Don't really see that as Couts' fault.

He has multiple good-to-great games in a row while playing with Voracek where they're good defensively and dangerous offensively and you don't hear a peep. BUT the second he does something wrong all of the anti-Couturier people come out of their caves and shout their heads off, while conveniently ignoring the fact that he's caused them to hibernate for a couple of weeks in a row.

Typical Internet.

I hope so. I don't think he'll ever be able to develop into a 30goal, 70 point guy, but 20 goals, 50 points or so while playing elite defense would satisfy me personally.

Berube your days are numbered! Thats about the only good thing I can take away from the last few games. Pretty fed up with this ****ing team.

This post actually brightened my mood. Thx:laugh:

Can we have an official "Fire Berube"-thread already?

Oh please. Gaudreau wasn't some can't miss prospect. He was a tiny kid putting up good but not elite numbers in the USHL when he was drafted.

Never said he was a can't miss ! But i am on record saying he should of been drafted .
