1960s:

November 2, 1967 -- In the first meeting between the squads, Andre Boudrias (1-1-2) scored the first goal and Cesare Maniago made 29 saves in the North Stars' 3-1 win at Philly. Doug Favell was named top star as he made 27 saves. The North Stars' players were given team-issued fines for a poor performance the night before in a 4-1 loss to Pittsburgh. The attendance was listed at 4,203 in what was the last of a five-game home stand for the Flyers. Brit Selby suffered a separated shoulder and missed action until mid-December.
November 18, 1967 --The teams skated to a 2-2 tie in the Metropolitan Sports Center in Bloomington, MN. Bill Goldsworthy scored twice after the Flyers led 2-0. Doug Favell made 23 saves.
December 21, 1967 -- Bernie Parent stopped all 31 shots in a 6-0 home victory, the Flyers' first win in this series. Six different players scored and eight players had two-point games including Pat Hannigan (1-1-2) who factored in both first period goals. The Flyers snapped Cesare Maniago's shutout streak of 188 minutes and 38 seconds-- the longest in 12 years in the NHL.
January 10, 1968 -- Wayne Connolly recorded a hat trick in the North Stars 6-4 home win. The North Stars scored five straight goals to pull ahead 5-1. Brit Selby scored twice and Doug Favell made 33 saves for the Flyers.
January 18, 1968 -- A somber Met Center witnessed the Flyers record a 4-2 victory, the North Stars' first home game since the January 15th death of Bill Masterton who died two days after hitting his head on the ice in a game against the Oakland Seals (2-2 tie, Jan. 13) in Minnesota. During the afternoon, both squads, including the entire Flyers' team, attended Masterton's funeral and the continued disillusionment was evident throughout the Met Center. Gary Dornhoefer scored 15 seconds into the game but the Flyers didn't offer much in celebration. The P.A. Announcer, sensing the solemn atmosphere, tried to enliven the crowd with a half-hearted "Let's Play Hockey" and spectators gave a standing ovation. Lou Angotti (1-2-3) had three points for the Flyers. The scheduled competition for Minnesota following the January 13 tragedy: a 9-2 loss in Boston (Jan. 14), Masterton's passing (1:55 a.m. Jan. 15 at an Edina, MN hospital), the All-Star Game (Jan. 16) in Toronto where a ceremony/moment of silence was held in the fallen player's honor, a 5-0 loss in St. Louis (Jan. 17), this 4-2 loss to the Flyers (Jan. 18), a 5-1 loss in Toronto (Jan. 20) and then a 4-3 home win over Pittsburgh (Jan. 21).
January 25, 1968 -- Cesare Maniago made 19 saves and recorded his league-leading fifth shutout and Ray Cullen scored twice in the North Stars' 3-0 win in Philly. The North Stars had 41 shots and Bernie Parent made 38 saves in the loss. The game was punctuated by three fighting majors including a 5+2 for Bernie Parent vs. Dave Balon in the third period. Forbes Kennedy, who had 34 PIMs in the game, and Andre Boudrias picked up slashing majors in the opening minute then fought later in the first period which had 60 PIMs.
February 11, 1968 -- Doug Favell made 27 saves and Jean Gauthier had a goal and an assist in Philly's 3-2 win at Minnesota. Bill Collins, who briefly played for the Flyers in the 1976-77 season, scored twice for the North Stars.
February 22, 1968 -- Leon Rochefort (3-1-4) registered the second hat trick in Flyers' history and Andre Lacroix (1-3-4) had four points in a 7-3 home win. Rochefort also had the first hat trick in team history.
March 10, 1968 -- Bernie Parent turned aside all 30 shots and the Flyers scored twice in the third period for a 2-0 win in Quebec (played there due to the Spectrum's roof collapse) in front of 19,971. Gary Bauman replaced Cesare Maniago, at the 16 minute mark, when Maniago was hit in the face by a puck, suffered a broken jaw and was carried off the ice on a stretcher. Bill Goldworthy of the North Stars was ejected, fined $150 and given a three-game suspension for punching linesman John D'Amico and knocking him to the ice.
March 13, 1968 -- Don Blackburn (0-3-3) had three assists and four different teammates scored in Philly's 4-2 road win. Bernie Parent (13 saves, 13 shots) suffered a bruise under the right eye, was replaced by Doug Favell (11 saves, 13 shots) with the Flyers ahead 2-0 in the second period. The Flyers lead 4-0 through two periods. North Stars' goalie Cesare Maniago, who played with a broken jaw (see: March 10, 1968), was removed in favor of Gary Bauman (10 saves, 10 shots). The North Stars' Bill Goldsworthy was ejected fined and suspended three games for punching linesman John D'Amico.
October 24, 1968 -- Earl Heiskala (1-1-2) scored with 3:02 remaining and Bernie Parent was top star as he made 32 saves in a 3-3 tie in Philadelphia.
November 13, 1968 -- The North Stars had four different one-goal leads in a 4-3 win in Minnesota. The trio of Danny Grant-Claude LaRose-Danny O'Shea had nine points for the North Stars. Jim Johnson (2-1-3) led the Flyers' offense.
December 19, 1968 -- Andre Lacroix scored with 33 seconds to play in a 5-5 tie in Philly. Minnesota led 4-1 in the first period and held a 5-3 lead with about seven to play in the third period. Jean Guy Gendron (1-2-3) had three points for Philly. Wayne Connolly (2-1-3) and Ray Cullen (0-3-3) had three points for Minnesota. The decision left each team with identical 8-17-5 records.
January 11, 1969 -- Jean-Guy Gendron (2-1-3) scored the GWG with under 5:17 to play and added an insurance tally in the final minute as Philly won 4-2 at Minnesota. Bernie Parent made 35 saves.
February 2, 1969 -- Cesare Maniago made 31 saves in Minnesota's 3-2 win in Philly. Danny Grant and Claude LaRose each had two points.
March 15, 1969 -- Bernie Parent made 41 saves in a 2-2 tie at Minnesota. Joe Watson's goal tied the game at 2-2 in the third period. Danny Grant of Minnesota picked up his 62nd point of the season which tied the NHL record set by Toronto's Gus Bodnar for most points in a season (1943-44) by a rookie.
March 20, 1969 -- Bernie Parent made 30 saves and five different Flyers scored in a 5-2 home win. The victory gave the Flyers a four-point lead over Minnesota for the fourth and final playoff spot in the West Division.
March 22, 1969 -- Bernie Parent made 32 saves and Andre Lacroix had three points in Philly's 5-1 win in Minnesota. Ed Van Impe missed the rest of the regular season and all but one playoff game due to a dislocated finger suffered in the game. The Flyers went 2-0-1 in three games in eight days against the North Stars as the teams battled for the fourth and final playoff spot.
May 14, 1969 -- Wayne Hillman was acquired from Minnesota for John Miszuk.
October 11, 1969 -- Cesare Maniago made 21 saves in the North Stars' 4-0 home win. Minnesota led 2-0 before three minutes expired in this season opener and held a 3-0 lead later in the first period.
November 2, 1969 -- Bernie Parent made 27 saves, Lew Morrison and Gary Dornhoefer scored twice and rookie Bobby Clarke added three assists in Philly's 6-2 home win. Clarke entered the contest with two points (1-1-2) in 8 career games. The game had 25 penalties and 70 PIMs including a brawl highlighted by fights between Reg Fleming-Tom Polanic and Larry Hillman-John Miszuk.
November 12, 1969 -- Cesare Maniago made 29 saves and J.P. Parise (2-1-3) had three points in Minnesota's 4-2 home win.

1970-1974:

January 4, 1970 -- Doug Favell made 29 saves as the Flyers won 3-1 in Philadelphia. Reg Fleming and Andre Lacroix scored in the first period. The North Stars' Fern Rivard, who had two separate minors, made 38 saves. Midway in the contest, Earl Heiskala (27 PIMs) of Philadelphia and Barry Gibbs (25 PIMs) of Minnesota were ejected during an altercation. Wayne Hillman and J.P. Parise picked up fighting majors during the brawl.
January 24, 1970 -- Doug Favell made 40 saves and the Flyers led 4-0 after the opening period en route to a 6-0 win in Minnesota. Andre Lacroix (1-2-3) factored in the first three goals. Jean-Guy Gendron, Terry Ball and Bobby Clarke each had a goal and an assist.
February 28, 1970 -- Bernie Parent made 33 saves and both Gary Dornhoefer (1-2-3) and Jim Johnson (2-1-3) had three points in Philly's 6-2 home win. Cesare Maniago made 31 saves for Minnesota. The prior day, Minnesota acquired future Hall-of-Famer and 40-year old goalie Gump Worsley from Montreal after he refused demotion to the minors.
March 4, 1970 -- Bill Sutherland scored two third periods goals and the Flyers rallied for a 2-2 tie. Minnesota led 2-0 until Sutherland scored a PPG with 8:04 to play. He evened the scored with 3:47 remaining. Bernie Parent made 29 saves. 40-year old Gump Worsley, future Hall-of-Fame goalie, made 31 saves in his North Stars' debut and first appearance in three months.
April 4, 1970 -- Minnesota eliminated the Flyers from the post-season picture with a 1-0 win in Philly. Barry Gibbs scored his third goal of the season, estimated to be an 80-footer, 7:38 into the third period reportedly when sunlight shined through a Spectrum exit and caused Bernie Parent to lose location of the puck. Years later, Parent denied the part about sun but said "I don't know if it was the most unusual goal scored against me. I do know it was the worst." Minnesota, Philadelphia and the Oakland Seals all had 58 points for the final two playoff spots but the Flyers had the fewest wins. The defeat caused the Flyers to miss the post-season as they needed a win (or a tie with help) in any of the last six games. The team finished 0-6-0 and also 3-13-5 in the last 21 games. The Flyers went scoreless in the final 144:02 of the season. Gump Worsley made 30 saves and Parent stopped 34. The Flyers lost for the first time with Kate Smith's recording of "God Bless America" played.
October 10, 1970 -- Doug Favell made 31 saves and Bob Kelly (0-2-2) assisted on first period PPGs by Gary Dornhoefer and Bobby Clarke in the Flyers' 2-1 season opening home win. The second goal came during a five-minute slashing major to Ted Harris.
January 23, 1971 -- Bill Lesuk scored with two seconds remaining in the game and Bernie Parent made 35 saves in a 2-2 tie at Minnesota.
February 13, 1971 -- Gary Dornhoefer (1-1-2) scored a PPG with 29 seconds left in a 2-2 tie at Minnesota. Bobby Clarke (1-1-2) had two points. Doug Favell made 26 saves.
March 7, 1971 -- Cesare Maniago made 28 saves in Minnesota's 3-1 home win. J.P. Parise scored the go-ahead goal early in the third period.
March 25, 1971 -- Goals by Jim Johnson and Larry Hillman, the game's top two stars, rallied the Flyers to a 2-2 tie in Philadelphia. Serge Bernier assisted on both goals. Bruce Gamble made 29 saves for the Flyers. Gump Worsley made 31 saves for Minnesota.
April 3, 1971 -- Gary Dornhoefer (1-1-2) snapped a 2-2 tie and Bruce Gamble made 20 saves in the Flyers' 3-2 home win which clinched third place in the Western Division. Because of the PO format, the third-place Flyers faced Chicago in the opening round of the POs while the fourth-seeded North Stars played the Blues, who finished 20 points behind the Blackhawks.
November 7, 1971 -- Gump Worsley made 27 saves and recorded his 42nd career shutout in the North Stars' 3-0 win at Philly.
November 21, 1971 -- Joe Watson's goal in the third period gave the Flyers a 1-1 tie in Philly. Each team had 28 shots on opposing goalies Doug Favell and Gump Worsley.
February 12, 1972 -- Gump Worsley made 35 saves and Bill Goldsworthy had the GWG in Minnesota's 5-1 home win. The North Stars trailed 1-0 with under three to play in the second period but led 3-1 at the break with three goals in 76 seconds. Don McLeod, who made his Flyers' debut in goal, was promoted after goalie Bruce Gamble suffered a career-ending heart attack on this road trip.
March 2, 1972 -- Doug Favell made 32 saves and the Flyers won 3-0 at home. Bob Kelly set a then team-record for fastest goal to start a period when he scored 8 seconds into the second period to give Philly a 2-0 lead.
March 28, 1972 -- Doug Favell made 36 saves and Cesare Maniago made 35 stops in a 2-2 tie in Minnesota. Dennis Hextall scored both goals for Minnesota.
October 28, 1972 -- Doug Favell made 51 saves but suffered a 2-1 loss in Minnesota. The North Stars held a 53-38 shots advantage including 21-11 in both the first and second periods. J.P Parise and Danny Grant scored and Gump Worsley made 37 saves. Each team was assessed four PIMs, two minors aside.
December 7, 1972 -- Bobby Clarke (1-3-4) had four points and Michel Belhumeur made 30 saves in the Flyers' 6-2 home win. Gary Dornhoefer's team-record consecutive games streak scoring a goal reached seven; later, Ron Flockhart 8 and Rick Tocchet 9 surpassed it.
December 13, 1972 -- The North Stars held an incredible 32-10 shots advantage through the first period, led 3-1, and cruised to a 7-2 home win. Minnesota outshot Philly 53-32 including 48-20 through two periods. Michel Belhumeur (41 saves, 46 shots) was replaced by Doug Favell (5 saves, 7 shots) for the third period. Minnesota was led by Danny Grant (2-1-3), Fred Harvey (0-3-3), Murray Oliver (0-3-3) and Cesare Maniago (30 saves). The next day, the Flyers acquired Andre Dupont from the St. Louis Blues.
January 18, 1973 -- The Flyers led 4-0 after one period and skated to a 6-1 home win. Bill Flett scored twice, Gary Dornhoefer (0-3-3) had three assists and Bobby Taylor made 26 saves. Minnesota's goalies were 43-year old Gump Worsley and Cesare Maniago.
February 18, 1973 -- The Flyers led 4-0 after one period and skated to a 5-1 home win. Gary Dornhoefer (0-3-3) had his second consecutive three-assist game in a month against the North Stars. The Flyers had three PPGs. Doug Favell made 28 saves. Rick MacLeish set a team-record (since broken) with his 36th goal which gave Philly a 1-0 lead. Dave Schultz made it 2-0 and afterwards Fred Shero said "We almost thought of trading him one time."
April 4, 1973 -- In Game One of the QFs, Cesare Maniago made 28 saves in the North Stars' 3-0 win in Philly. The Flyers tied an NHL record with their tenth consecutive PO loss. The backbreaker was Dennis O'Brien's 50-footer with 15 seconds left in the middle period to put Minnesota up 2-0. Bobby Clarke was rushed to Lankenau Hospital after he was hit in the eye by a hockey stick; however, damage was limited to a split contact lens, temporary blurred vision and irritation from a scratch to the eye. Clarke switched to a softer contact lens. After the game, Fred Shero chastised some of his veteran players without specifying names.
April 5, 1973 -- In Game Two of the QFs, Doug Favell celebrated his 28th birthday as he made 31 saves while Barry Ashbee became the first Flyer to have three assists in a PO period (19th player in NHL history) in Philly's 4-1 home win. Don Saleski scored in the first followed by second period goals from Bob Kelly (SHG), Bill Barber and Terry Crisp. Dean Prentice scored for the Stars in the third period. The contest had four fights including two at the 1:16 mark that set the tone for the game: Moose Dupont-J.P. Parise and Barber-Dennis O'Brien. Ross Lonsberry fought Dennis Hextall in the second period and Dave Schultz battled Ted Harris with 20 seconds to play. North Stars' head coach Jackie Gordon was questioned for using Gilles Gilbert, who made 36 saves, despite a shutout from Cesare Maniago the night before, and responded by saying "I'm looking at the overall picture. We have four games in five days." Bobby Clarke, injured in Game One, played with a patch over his right eye.
April 7, 1973 -- In Game Three of the QFs, the North Stars scored four third period goals and Cesare Maniago made 33 stops in Minnesota's 5-0 home win. Lou Nanne and Danny Grant scored twice in 40 seconds to put the game out of reach. Doug Favell was replaced by Michel Belhumeur. Dave Schultz battled Dennis Hextall in the game's final moments, challenged other North Stars' players, who refused, and was removed from the ice by linesman Ron Finn.
April 8, 1973 -- In Game Four of the QFs, Doug Favell rebounded from being removed the prior game and recorded a 31-save shutout and a 3-0 afternoon road win. When asked about the city of Philadelphia's reputation for losing, Favell, who didn't get to sleep until 5:10 A.M., said of this important victory "We just want to win, we don't care about that reputation." Bobby Clarke picked up his first NHL PO point (eighth game) as he started the scoring with the first of his 42 lifetime playoff goals. Clarke's goal ended Cesare Maniago's shutout streak of 138:57. Bill Barber made it 2-0 with 5:44 to play in regulation.
April 10, 1973 -- In Game Five of the QFs, Gary Dornhoefer's OT goal gave the Flyers a 3-2 home win. The goal was eventually represented by a bronze statue outside the Spectrum. Dornhoefer said afterwards “I don’t even know how I scored. I just remember getting the puck at center ice, and fortunately it stayed right with me. You could try that play again a hundred times and it wouldn’t work.” Rick MacLeish (2-1-3) and Doug Favell (30 saves) starred as well. Minnesota led 1-0 but MacLeish scored two PPGs during separate infractions issued to Dennis O'Brien. Bill Goldsworthy made it 2-2 with exactly seven minutes left.
April 12, 1973 -- In Game Six of the QFs, Doug Favell was exceptional as he made 37 saves and Ross Lonsberry (2-1-3) had three points in the Flyers' 4-1 series-clinching win in Minnesota. The North Stars dominated the opening period with a 13-4 shots advantage and led 1-0 on a PPG. Terry Crisp, Lonsberry and Dave Schultz scored in the second period to give Philly a 2-goal cushion entering the third period. It marked the first time the Flyers advanced past the first round of the playoffs and earned them a matchup with the Montreal Canadiens in the semifinals. Said Joe Watson "The difference in getting this far is like drinking draft beer and drinking bottled beer, between driving and flying on summer vacation." SERIES RECAP: The Flyers' offense was led by Bill Flett (1-4-5), Ross Lonsberry (3-1-4), Rick MacLeish (2-2-4) and Bobby Clarke (1-3-4). Minnesota had four players reach four points led by Bill Goldsworthy (2-2-4). Minnesota's J. P. Parise said "Favell was the big difference (in the series). He made the big stops when it counted."
January 5, 1974 -- Bobby Clarke scored the game-tying goal with under two minutes to play and the teams skated to a 3-3 draw. Bernie Parent made 30 saves. Ross Lonsberry and Gary Dornhoefer each had a goal and an assist.
January 10, 1974 -- Dave Schultz (3-0-3) had his second hat trick in eight days in the Flyers' 7-4 home win. Schultz scored two PPGs including the game's final goal which was assisted by future Hall of Fame members Bobby Clarke (0-2-2) and Bernie Parent (31 saves). Don Saleski (1-2-3) also had three points. Fred Stanfield and Tony Featherstone each scored twice for Minnesota.
February 28, 1974 -- The teams played to a 2-2 tie in Philadelphia. Cesare Maniago made 35 saves for Minnesota. Bobby Clarke assisted on goals by Jim Watson and Bill Flett. Orest Kindrachuk and Jude Drouin had first period fighting majors during which Dave Schultz broke his thumb in a scrum with Dennis O'Brien and he missed the next four games.
March 16, 1974 -- Bernie Parent made 40 saves, including 31 in the first 40 minutes, in the Flyers' 4-2 road win. It was Parent's 40th victory of the season. Tom Bladon (1-1-2), Bill Barber (1-1-2) and Dave Schultz (0-2-2) led the offense.
April 2, 1974 -- Bobby Taylor made 33 saves and the Flyers defeated the North Stars 6-3 at Minnesota in Gump Worsley's final NHL game. The Flyers led 3-0 in the opening period but Bill Goldsworthy's (2-0-2) second goal made it 3-3 in the third period. However, Bill Flett scored the GWG 1:44 later followed by goals by Ross Lonsberry and Dave Schultz who had the distinction of being the last player to score against the future Hall-of-Famer netminder. Worsley's Hall-of-Fame career began in 1952-53 and this was one of just six games that he wore a mask.
April 7, 1974 -- Bill Barber (3-1-4) recorded his first NHL hat trick and Bobby Clarke (0-3-3) added three assists in Philly's 6-2 home win. Barber's third goal came with 12 seconds left in the game and on the PP. The Flyers held a 40-22 shots advantage including 33-12 over the last two periods. Fern Rivard made 34 saves in the defeat. Bernie Parent picked up the win by making 20 saves. Bill Flett and Tom Bladon scored 18 seconds apart in the opening 2:17 which give Philly a 2-0 lead. It was the regular season finale.
November 7, 1974 -- Bernie Parent made 18 saves and shutout the North Stars in a 2-0 victory in the Spectrum. The Flyers doubled Minnesota's shot total 36-18. Rick MacLeish netted a PPG then Bill Barber added an ENG. Cesare Maniago (17-for-17) was perfect in relief of the injured Fern Rivard (17-for-18) who was carried off the ice on a stretcher. Rivard suffered an injury to the base of his spine.
December 12, 1974 -- Reggie Leach (3-0-3) had a hat trick and Bernie Parent made 22 saves in a 6-0 shutout victory in the Spectrum. Bobby Clarke (0-3-3) assisted on each of Leach's goals. Bill Barber, Rick MacLeish and Ross Lonsberry had two points each. Both teams were issued just four PIMs in the game.

1975-1979:

February 8, 1975 -- Minnesota dominated the opening period, 4-0 in goals and 13-2 in shots, en route to a 5-0 victory behind Pete Lopresti's 26 saves. Future Flyer Blake Dunlop had three assists in the first 6:12. Jack McIlhargey made his NHL debut and fought Dennis Hextall, one of three fights in the game. Dave Schultz, who fought Dennis O'Brien, was assessed 31 PIMs in the game, the second highest of his Flyers' career (34 against the Seals) and broke his own record for PIMs in a season. He was suspended one-game for cursing at ref Bruce Hood and later Clarence Campbell said Schultz's further suspensions "will be automatically escalated on an arithmetical basis. He denigrates the game by deliberately violating the rules."
March 5, 1975 -- Rick MacLeish had five points as he led the Flyers to a 9-2 win at Minnesota. MacLeish (3-2-5), Bobby Clarke (2-2-4), Reggie Leach (0-3-3) and Andre Dupont (1-2-3) combined for 15 points. MacLeish started a stretch in which he had 21 points in seven games. The Flyers scored four goals in a span of 6:33 and dominated the opening period, 5-2 in goals and 24-11 in shots. Philly held a 41-26 shots advantage. Wayne Stephenson made 24 saves for the Flyers. Pete Lopresti gave up nine goals. The Flyers had seven PKs to the just one for the North Stars (PP was 1-for-1). Dave Schultz-Tom Reid fought in the opening period. It was the second time in team history that the Flyers won a road game by seven or more goals (7-0 vs. California, 1973).
March 22, 1975 -- Bobby Clarke (0-3-3) recorded his 100th point this season, Ross Lonsberry scored twice in the third period and Bernie Parent had the shutout in Philly's 4-0 home win. The Flyers held a 38-10 shots advantage including 14-2 in the first period. Bill Clement and Dennis Hextall fought. With the win, the Flyers secured the best record in the Clarence Campbell Conference and each player earned $4500.
October 11, 1975 -- Bobby Clarke recorded (1-4-5) five points and Rick MacLeish (2-0-2) and Andre Dupont (2-1-3) each scored twice in the Flyers' 9-5 victory in Minnesota. Wayne Stephenson made 20 saves. The Flyers led 4-3 after one period helped by a 19-8 shots advantage (36-25 in the game). Dean Talafous (2-1-3) led Minnesota. Paul Harrison surrendered nine goals on 27 shots. Mel Bridgman joined Bill Sutherland as the only Flyers, to date, to score goals in their first two games with the franchise.
December 7, 1975 -- Reggie Leach (2-1-3) and Rick MacLeish (0-3-3) each had three points and Wayne Stephenson made 20 saves in Philly's 6-1 home win. The Flyers led 3-0 by the 11:02 mark. The Flyers outshot Minnesota 48-21 including 37-9 in the first and third periods. Pete LoPresti, whose father played in the NHL, made 42 saves and afterwards said "My father told me there'd be nights like this but I wouldn't believe him. I'm still alive. They seem to have three of four guys around the net all the time."
January 31, 1976 -- Dean Talafous (2-0-2) scored two third period goals and the North Stars rallied for a 3-3 tie in Minnesota despite being outshot 31-16. The Flyers scored three PPGs and led 3-1 entering the last period; however, the team failed on a 2-man advantage for 1:41 late in the second period. Cesare Maniago made 28 saves. The game had five PPGs.
February 26, 1976 -- Bobby Clarke had two assists and Reggie Leach, Larry Goodenough and Bill Barber scored in a span of 2:53 in the second period en route to a 3-2 home win. The Flyers doubled Minnesota's shots 38-19. Cesare Maniago made 35 saves. The game was highlighted by a 40-minute donnybrook at the 7:10 mark of the second period. Dave Cressman, who in the first period picked up spearing penalties with Bobby Clarke, was later whipped by Jack McIlhargey in a bench-clearing brawl that featured Don Saleski vs. Lou Nanne (both of whom were ejected) and Andre Dupont vs. Dennis O'Brien. Philly had 62 PIMs and the North Stars had 57. Flyers' assistant coach Mike Nykoluk said of Cressman "he was getting away with bloody murder" in how he was shadowing Clarke. Steve Jensen, a star with the 1976 U.S. Olympians who said during his time with that team that they were "better than the Flyers," made his NHL debut and later clarified his controversial remarks by saying that amateur hockey stresses skating more so than the NHL.
March 23, 1976 -- Reggie Leach of the Flyers and Bill Hogaboam of the North Stars each scored twice in a 3-3 tie in Minnesota. Both Hogaboam goals came in the third period. The Flyers led three times by one goal. Cesare Maniago made 31 saves for the North Stars.
October 31, 1976 -- Bobby Clarke had six points (2-4-6) and the Flyers crushed Minniesota 9-1 in the Spectrum on Halloween night. Paul Holmgren, Bob Kelly and Rick MacLeish each had a goal and an assist. Bernie Parent was rested after two periods for Gary Inness who picked up an assist in the third period. Pete LoPresti gave up nine goals.
December 1, 1976 -- Minnesota-native Paul Holmgren made his first NHL appearance in his home state and scored in a game that ended 2-2. Rick MacLeish (0-2-2) assisted on both goals. The North Stars had 0 PIMs and the Flyers totaled just 4 PIMs but both Minnesota goals came during the PPs. Gary Smith made 39 saves for Minnesota.
December 14, 1976 -- Tim Young scored twice in the last 1:51 to lift the North Stars into a 3-3 tie at home. The second goal was a slapper with 16 seconds left. Bernie Parent was rested after 28 straight starts and Gary Inness made a rare start for the Flyers.
January 16, 1977 -- Rick MacLeish scored two unassisted goals (2-1-3) and assisted on Tom Bladon's eventual GWG in a 4-2 home win. Bernie Parent made 20 saves. Tim Young knotted the game at 2-2 in the third period but Bladon and Jim Watson finished the scoring.
March 1, 1977 -- Bernie Parent made 29 saves and Bob Kelly (2-1-3) and Bobby Clarke (0-3-3) each had three points in a 5-2 road win. Kelly scored the Flyers' first two goals by the 14:38 mark and assisted on the 2-2 tie-breaker in the second period. There was a total of 12 PIMs (six minors) called in the game, ten PIMs to the Flyers.
October 28, 1977 -- Blake Dunlop was traded to Philadelphia with Minnesota's 3rd round choice (Gord Salt) in the 1978 Amateur Draft for Harvey Bennett Jr.
November 19, 1977 -- Orest Kindrachuk (2-2-4) and Don Saleski (1-3-4) led Philly to a 7-2 road victory. The duo combined for six points on the first three goals of the third period. The Flyers led 3-1 through two periods then scored four tiems in the final period. Ross Lonsberry added three points in the win. Wayne Stephenson made 22 saves.
December 29, 1977 -- Rick MacLeish (3-0-3) recorded a hat trick, including two goals in the third period, in a 5-2 home win. The score was tied 2-2 after 40 minutes. The Flyers outshot the North Stars 20-11 in the second period but were out-scored 2-1. The Flyers dominated the third period 3-0 in goals and 11-2 in shots. The Flyers held a 31-13 shots advantage over the last two periods. Pete Lopresti made 34 saves in a loss. The Flyers improved to 14-0-2 in the last 16 regular season home games against the North Stars.
February 16, 1978 -- Glen Sharpley's second goal of the contest came with 2:14 to play and Pete Lopresti made 41 saves as Minnesota ended lengthy winless skids in this series with a 4-2 victory in the Spectrum. The Flyers were 10-0-4 in the last 14 regular season games played in this series and 18-1-6 in the past 25 meetings. Philly also had regular season home streaks of 9-0-0 and 14-0-2 in this series snapped. The North Stars scored in the first and second periods and led 2-0 with about 13 minutes to play. The Flyers then staged a rally to even the game with under five minutes remaining. After Sharpley scored the go-ahead goal, Tim Young added an ENG. Philadelphia held a 43-23 shots advantage. Flyers' goalie Rick St. Croix made his NHL debut.
March 25, 1978 -- Bernie Parent made 31 saves and Bob Kelly snapped a 3-3 with 5:37 to play in Philly's 4-3 road win. Per Olov Brasar and Glen Sharpley combined for five points in a losing cause. Minnesota had two SHGs and a PPG. The Flyers countered with a SHG and a PPG. Kelly's goal was just the seond of seven scored even-strength. Minnesota held a 34-24 shots advantage. Andre Dupont and Steve Jensen went toe-to-toe and Paul Holmgren fought John Barrett.
April 9, 1978 -- Paul Harrison made 37 saves and Glen Sharpley (1-2-3) had three points in the North Stars' 3-1 win at Philly in the season finale. Harrison stopped 19 of 20 shots in the second period. Prior to the game, Gary Dornhoefer was honored in his last regular season game and he scored the Flyers' lone goal.
November 24, 1978 -- Bill Barber and Reggie Leach had three points each in a 4-3 win at the Minnesota. Mel Bridgman scored the tie-breaking goal with 5:35 left in the middle period. Ron Zanussi scored twice in 27 seconds to draw Minnesota even 3-3. Seven seconds later, Dave Hoyda beat Tom Younghans in a fight. Later in the period, Paul Holmgren fought Steve Payne which preceded Bridgman's GWG by about a half-minute. The Flyers outshot the North Stars 20-14. The Flyers were 5-0-4 in the last nine games played at Minnesota.
January 27, 1979 -- Per-Olov Brasar had three points and Gilles Meloche made 25 saves in the North Stars' 3-1 home win.
February 18, 1979 -- Behn Wilson (2-0-2) scored twice and had a game-high 9 shots in Philly's 3-2 home win. The Flyers held a 3-1 lead after 40 minutes and 28-10 in shots. Dave Hoyda fought Al MacAdam.
March 21, 1979 -- Mike Fidler (3-0-3) and Steve Payne (3-1-4) both had hat tricks and scored the North Stars' first six goals in an eventual 7-3 home win. It was the first time two Minnesota players had hat tricks in the same game. The North Stars' PP was 4-for-6, the third time a Flyers' opponent scored four PPGs in a game. Gilles Meloche made 29 saves. Kris Manery had three assists.
November 29, 1979 -- The Flyers trailed 3-1 after the first period but recovered for a 6-4 victory in the Spectrum. Rick MacLeish scored twice and Paul Holmgren (1-2-3) and Bill Barber (1-2-3) each had three points. Ken Linseman and Reggie Leach scored less than two minutes apart in the third period and the Flyers led 5-3; Leach's tally was a SHG. Mel Bridgman and Paul Shmyr got in a feisty fight.

1980-1984:

January 7, 1980 -- The Flyers' NHL record unbeaten streak was snapped at 35 games (25-0-10) in a 7-1 loss. The crowd of 15,962 was the largest crowd ever to see a hockey game in the Met Center. Gilles Meloche made 30 saves for his league-leading 17th win and Greg Smith (1-2-3) and Mike Eaves (1-2-3) had three points apiece. Bill Barber gave Philly a 1-0 lead but the North Stars led 3-1 with three goals in a span of 5:38 late in the opening period. The Flyers failed to score during a two-man advantage early in the second period. The score remained 3-1 with less than five minutes to play in the middle period. A potential goal by Paul Holmgren was nullified because of a too-many-men-on-the-ice penalty during which Minnesota took advantage and extended the lead to 4-1 and 21 seconds later made it 5-1. The North Stars scored a PPG in each period and went 3-for-9. Bobby Clarke suffered an 11-stitch wound to his face when he was struck by a puck. The Flyers entered the game with a 26-1-10 record in 37 games. Minnesota was 20-9-8 with a home mark of 15-1-3 upon the night's end. It was the final game of a six-game road trip for the Flyers and third game in four nights.
January 31, 1980 -- Rick St. Croix was named the game's top star in his lone 1979-80 NHL appearance and backed the Flyers to a 4-2 home win. St. Croix, who was recalled from the AHL as a replacement for Phil Myre (family illness), made 23 saves and was especially sharp in the opening period when the Stars outshot Philly 14-5. Al MacAdam (2-0-2) scored a 5-on-3 PPG with 44 seconds left in the first period to give the North Stars a 1-0 lead. MacAdam also tied the game 2-2 in the second period. Bobby Clarke, Behn Wilson, Al Hill and Bill Barber scored for the Flyers. Bob Kelly and Jimmy Watson each had two assists. Dennis Ververgaert fought Dave Hanson (Slap Shot fame).
March 8, 1980 -- Pete Peeters made 22 saves and Ken Linseman had (1-2-3) three points in the Flyers' 6-2 win in Minnesota. The Flyers became the first team that season to reach 100 points.
April 29, 1980 -- In Game One of the Semifinals, Steve Payne (2-0-2) and Steve Christoff (2-1-3) each scored twice and Gary Edwards (23 saves, 24 shots), who replaced starter Gilles Meloche following the first period, helped lift Minnesota to a 6-5 upset victory in Philly. The North Stars scored twice in 39 seconds to take a 3-1 lead in the first period; however, the Flyers responded with three tallies and the squads established an NHL record for quickest five goals in a playoff game scored in a span of 3 minutes and 20 seconds (the prior record was set in 1932 and the new feat beat it by 59 seconds). Payne's first goal gave Minnesota a 5-4 lead late in the second period. He then gave Minnesota a 6-4 lead in the third period. Christoff set an NHL record for most goals scored by a rookie in a PO year with eight. Minnesota went 3-for-5 on the PP. The Flyers were led by Ken Linseman (2-1-3) and Brian Propp (0-3-3); Pete Peeters made 29 saves.
May 1, 1980 -- In Game Two of the Semifinals, Phil Myre recorded the only shutout in his Flyers' career with 27 saves in a 7-0 home win. The margin of victory was the Flyers' largest ever in the playoffs. Bob Dailey had five points (1-4-5) and became the second Flyer to total four assists and five points in a PO game. Paul Holmgren scored a PPG then Bill Barber added a SHG to give Philly a 2-0 lead at the 3:20 mark. Barber (1-2-3) and Ken Linseman (0-3-3) had three-point games. The Flyers, a perfect 4-for-4 on the PP, snapped out of a 3-for-34 funk. Philly scored five special teams' goals. Minnesota was 0-for-7 on the PP. Gary Edwards made 33 saves in the loss.
May 4, 1980 --In Game Three of the Semifinals,, Bill Barber (4-0-4) scored four goals and the Flyers' PK was 7-for-8 in a 5-3 win. The Flyers led 4-0 before the North Stars scored three special teams' goals in a span of 2:48 to make it 4-3. Tom Younghans and Tim Young scored SHGs with Curt Giles in the box then Minnesota scored a 5-on-3 PPG with under three left in the second period. Barber finished the scoring, a SHG with 3:26 to play. May 6, 1980 --In Game Four of the Semifinals, the Flyers' PK was a remarkable 12-for-12, Bill Barber scored twice and Phil Myre continued his impressive goaltending with 30 saves in Philly's 3-1 win at Minnesota. Barber snapped a 1-1 tie late in the second period. The Flyers were whistled for eight of the game's last 10 penalties including four out of five in the third period. Philly was 0-for-5 on the PP. Gary Edwards made 29 saves in the loss.
May 8, 1980 --In Game Five of the Semifinals, Bill Barber (2-1-3), Reggie Leach (2-0-2) and Bobby Clarke (1-2-3) led Philly to a 4-1 series win with a 7-3 home victory. Phil Myre made 22 saves. Philly was 2-for-3 on the PP while Minnesota was 1-for-8. Craig Hartsburg gave the North Stars a 1-0 lead 44 seconds into the game but the Flyers scored three straight special teams' goals to take a 3-1 lead. Bob Dailey scored with 32 seconds remaining to give the Flyers a 4-2 lead after one period. Gary Edwards (7 saves, 11 shots) was replaced after the first period by Gilles Meloche (14 saves, 17 shots) for the rest of the game. Mike Busniuk, who was scoreless in his previous 11 games, and Rick MacLeish each had two points, their only offense of the series. SERIES RECAP: The Flyers out-scored Minnesota 27-14 and among decisive factors in this series were Myre's goaltending, Barber's goal-scoring and special teams as Philly went 8-for-18 on the PP while the North Stars finished 5-for-40 and 2-for-35 over the last four games. Myre, who finished this post-season with a 5-1 record, was 4-0 in this series after Pete Peeters lost in the series opener. Barber finished the series with a team-record 12 (9-3-12) points and his nine goals tied Reggie Leach's NHL record for most goals in a PO series. Barber, who had 6 points (3-3-6) in 4 regular season games against Minnesota and had points in each, joined Boston's Derek Sanderson as the only players in NHL history to record three SHGs in a PO year. Bob Dailey (2-6-8) and Bobby Clarke (2-6-8) had eight points each and Reggie Leach (four goals) joined Barber as the Flyers' multi-goal scorers. Many North Stars praised the Flyers including head coach Glen Sonmor who said "We lost to the best team in the League." Brad Maxwell said "We thought it would be a battle of talent but when you play the Flyers it is also a battle of wit and effort." Steve Payne said "They've got the best penalty killing units I have ever seen."
November 20, 1980 -- Phil Myre made 21 saves and Don Beaupre stopped 19 shots in a 1-1 tie at Philly. Tom Gorence and Greg Smith each scored in the first period.
December 30, 1980 -- Minnesota went 4-for-7 on PPs en route to a 6-5 home win. The North Stars led the entire game after Craig Hartsburg (1-1-2) made it 1-0 late in the first period. Tom McCarthy had a Gordie Howe hat trick as he led Minnesota with three (1-2-3) points and also fought Bob Dailey. Phil Myre made 33 saves in the loss.
January 22, 1981 -- Bill Barber (1-2-3) led the Flyers to a 5-4 win in the Spectrum despite a hat trick from "Miracle on Ice" member Steve Christoff (four points). Philly snapped a 3-3 tie in the third period with two goals in 68 seconds. The Flyers scored two SHGs and a PPG. Mel Bridgman, Ken Linseman and Tom Gorence each had two points and Pete Peeters made 20 saves.

October 18, 1981 -- Rookies Ron Flockhart and Ilkka Sinisalo scored 36 seconds apart in the first period and the Flyers held on for a 3-2 home win. Reggie Leach's 50-footer made it 3-0 in the third period. There were three fights in the first period, the first two at the 1:10 mark: Ken Linseman-Bobby Smith and Tim Kerr-Craig Hartsburg with Kerr being tossed. Later, Lindsay Carson and Jack Carlson squared off. After the game ended, Bobby Clarke was issued a gross misconduct penalty.
November 28, 1981 -- Dino Ciccarelli (2-1-3) scored twice to lead Minnesota to a 5-3 home win. Bill Barber had two goals. October 30, 1982 -- Gilles Meloche made 33 saves and Tom McCarthy scored twice in the North Stars' 3-2 home win. There was a total of 18 PIMs assessed in the second period, all to the Flyers' Paul Holmgren and Minnesota's Ron Friest.
January 29, 1983 -- The teams played to a 2-2 tie in Minnesota. Bob Froese, whose career record fell to 8-0-1, made 27 saves. Gilles Meloche stopped 25 shots. Paul Holmgren, who fought Willie Plett in the first period, and Bobby Clarke scored in the second period. Glen Cochrane fought Plett in the third period.
March 10, 1983 -- Bobby Clarke (2-0-2) rallied the Flyers from a 3-1 deficit in the first period to a 6-3 home win. Clarke scored twice including an absolutely electrifying breakaway goal when he beat two North Stars' players at center ice to a loose puck and skated in alone on a stunned Gilles Meloche to finish off a beauty of a play (3:27 in -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ZPuYJXHYhsY ). Brian Propp had three points. Paul Holmgren suffered a concussion and missed the next two games.
November 17, 1983 -- Brian Bellows scored with 20 seconds to play and the North Stars rallied from a 5-2 third period hole to gain a 5-5 tie at the Spectrum. Gilles Meloche faced 51 shots (Minnesota had 27). The Flyers outshot the North Stars 29-12 after two periods. Each team had one shot in OT. Dave Poulin had three points including a third period SHG that gave the Flyers a 5-2 lead.
February 23, 1984 -- Brian Propp had three points, including the tying goal with under three to play, in a 3-3 draw at Philadelphia. Neal Broten scored the tying and lead goals for Minnesota to make it 3-2 after the Flyers led 2-0. March 10, 1984 -- Paul Holmgren, playing against the Flyers for the first time, stole the puck from Glen Cochrane and set up Al MacAdam's goal 25 seconds into the game eventually won by the North Stars 4-3 in Minnesota. The North Stars led the remainder of the game. Don Beaupre made 25 saves. Tim Kerr, Brian Propp and Dave Poulin each had two points. Rich Sutter and Brian Bellows hooked up in a fight.
October 23, 1984 -- Pelle Lindbergh made 31 saves and seven Flyers recorded goals in a 7-2 win in Minnesota. The Flyers broke open a scoreless game with four goals in a span of 4:11 during a second period in which Philly held a 22-13 shots advantage (4-0 in goals). Mike Sands (20 saves, 24 shots), one of six career NHL games, was replaced by Don Beaupre (12 saves, 15 shots). Thirteen Flyers had points led by Thomas Eriksson (0-3-3). Derrick Smith's first NHL goal gave Philly a 5-2 lead after the North Stars cut a four-goal deficit in half. November 3, 1984 -- Tim Kerr (2-2-4) scored two PPGs in under five minutes and led the Flyers to a 5-1 home win. The Flyers had three PPGs and Kerr factored in each. The Flyers dominated the second period 3-0 in goals and 16-4 in shots which led to the removal of Don Beaupre for Gilles Meloche. Pelle Lindbergh made 23 saves including a penalty shot by Scott Bjugstad.

1985-1989:

January 19, 1985 -- Miroslav Dvorak, Ilkka Sinisalo and Tim Kerr scored in the first period of the Flyers' 4-1 road win. Pelle Lindbergh made 31 saves. Sinisalo (1-1-2) and Peter Zezel (0-2-2) each had two points. The Flyers trailed 1-0 at the 3:36 mark but pulled ahead with goals scored 66 seconds apart.
October 19, 1985 -- Ron Sutter (1-3-4) and Rick Tocchet (2-1-3) led the Flyers to a dominating 7-3 home win. The Flyers outshot Minnesota 45-16 and Sutter, Tim Kerr and Mark Howe combined for 22 shots. Rich and Ron Sutter scored within 34 seconds of each other and the Flyers were up 3-1. The Flyers had three PPGs and one SHG. There were three fights in the game.
November 29, 1985 -- Ilkka Sinisalo scored twice and Bob Froese made 24 saves in the Flyers' 4-1 win at Minnesota. Sinisalo and Dave Brown scored in the first period. Brown beat Tim Coulis in a second period fight. Joe Paterson pummeled Dave Archibald in the third period. Prior to the game, Bo Berglund and Dave Richter were traded by the Stars to Philly for Ed Hospodar and Todd Bergen. Bergen refused to play for Mike Keenan mainly because Bergen felt Keenan was less than diplomatic in regards to injuries; Bergen attempted to become a golf pro. After the trade, he joined the North Stars but quickly reinjured himself without having played a game -- a severe lower abdominal pull was particularly devastating and it kept him out of the balance of the season. In 1986, he joined the North Stars' fall camp but injuries again limited his playing, he eventually joined the AHL, played in 27 games and suffered a season-ending thumb injury. In July 1987, he became a RFA and said Minnesota owed him over $100k; the Stars countered saying they weren't responsible but the Flyers were. He eventually quit hockey.
February 8, 1986 -- Minnesota scored three PPGs in a 3-3 tie in Philly. Brian Bellows (2-1-3) scored twice including the tying goal in the third period. Jon Casey made 36 saves for Minnesota including ten against Brian Propp who reached double digits in shots for the third time in 17 games. Mark Howe, Ron Sutter and Rich Sutter each had two points for the Flyers.
October 26, 1986 -- Ron Hextall made 29 stops in a 4-1 home win. The Flyers improved to 7-1-0 for the season and also 7-1-4 in the last 12 games in this series. Ilkka Sinisalo gave Philly a 1-0 lead with a 5-on-3 PPG in the opening period. Peter Zezel made it 2-0 off a terrific steal and setup by Derrick Smith.
December 13, 1986 -- Dino Ciccarelli scored the only third period goal in Minnesota's 5-4 home win. Dave Poulin (2-0-2) gave Philly a 1-0 lead with 40 seconds left in the first period but 28 seconds later Brad McCrimmon picked up a 5-minute major leading to two North Stars' PPGs, and one Flyer SHG, in the opening 94 seconds of the second period. Brian MacLellan (2-0-2) gave the Stars a 3-2 lead with consecutive goal. The North Stars scored three PPGs in the second period and out-scored the Flyers 4-3 in that period.
March 1, 1987 -- Kari Takko made 40 saves in the North Stars' 5-4 home win. Takko was 18-for-18 in the final period until Dave Poulin's (1-2-3) otherwise meaningless stuffer was scored with one second remaining. Dino Ciccarelli (1-1-2) gave Minnesota a 4-3 lead and Neal Broten scored and ENG with 16 seconds left to make it 5-3. The Flyers held a 44-33 shots advantage.
October 10, 1987 -- Murray Craven (2-0-2) and Ilkka Sinisalo (2-1-3) scored twice and Mark Laforest made 21 saves in the Flyers' 5-4 road win. It was the third straight 5-4 game in the series and the second straight game the losing team scored with one second left in the game. Herb Brooks made his home debut as Minnesota coach. Brooks, who coached the United States Olympic hockey team to a gold medal in the 1980 Olympics in Lake Placid, NY, also coached the University of Minnesota from 1972-79, the NY Rangers from 1981-85 and St. Cloud State (MN) the previous season.
December 23, 1987 -- Dave Poulin (2-1-3), playing wing for a rare time, scored consecutive goals to give Philly a 4-2 lead and Ron Hextall made 33 saves in the Flyers' 5-3 home win. Hextall was whistled for a delay of the game penalty 19 seconds into the first period and Dino Ciccarelli, who scored twice, netted a PPG. Minnesota led 2-1 by the 5:06 mark. Both teams had two PPGs and the Flyers added a SHG. Hextall missed his second goal by about six feet when he launched a shot that went wide. With the victory, the Flyers moved into first place in the Patrick Division with an 11-0-2 run despite a 6-13-3 start.
January 24, 1988 -- Kari Takko made 24 saves to back the owners of the second-worst record in the NHL to a 5-3 win in Philly. Bob Brooke had the GWG seven seconds after exiting the penalty box. Minnesota snapped a 16-game road winless (0-11-5) in this series and last won in the Spectrum April 9, 1978. The North Stars had five different goal scorers and Brian Bellows and Neal Broten each had three assists. Rick Tocchet scored a 5-on-3 goal to make it 2-0 at the 5:17 mark. Ron Sutter, scoreless in his prior 20 games, gave Philly a 3-2 lead. Larry DePalma, who played in just seven NHL games that season scored his only goal of 1987-88 and tied it for the Stars 3-3. Derrick Smith was ejected for spearing Broten later in the second period but the Flyers did not allow any goals. There were three fights in the game including two involving the Flyers' Greg Smyth.
February 9, 1988 -- Gordie Roberts was traded to Philly for a fourth-round draft pick (Stars drafted J.F. Quintin).
October 13, 1988 -- Ron Hextall made 44 saves and the Flyers matched a team record with six PPGs (also vs. California in 1972) in a 7-6 win at Minnesota. Brian Propp (3-0-3), who achieved his 10th career hat trick, scored three PPGs which tied a team record accomplished twice in prior seasons by Tim Kerr. Kerr (1-3-4) and Pelle Eklund (1-3-4) each had four points and all came during PPs. The Flyers had 21 individual points including 18 on PPs. The game's key moment came in the middle of the second period and the scored tied 2-2: Brian MacLellan was issued a slashing minor then handed a two-minute unsportsmanlike penalty for cursing referee Paul Stewart and the Flyers capitalized with two PPGs. The Flyers' PP went 6-for-11. The North Stars went 4-for-12 on PPs including two goals by Dino Ciccarelli (2-1-3). The teams combined to go 10-for-23 on PPs. The North Stars outshot Philly 50-33 including 25-6 in the third period and out-scored the Flyers 4-3 over the last 20 minutes. The attendance of 6,374 was seventh lowest to see a North Stars' home game and the fewest in ten years. Dating back to the prior season, Minnesota had a record of 3-24-5 in the last 32 games. January 5, 1989 -- Minnesota out-scored Philly 3-0 in the third period en route to a 5-3 home win. Marc Habscheid scored a PPG in the final five minutes to snap a 3-3 tie. Jon Casey made 26 saves. Neal Broten had three assists for the North Stars. Dave Poulin scored twice in the first period for the Flyers. January 10, 1989 -- The Flyers rallied from a 2-0 deficit and won 3-2 on third period goals scored 47 seconds apart by Rick Tocchet and Derrick Smith. Smith, who missed the prior two games with a hip pointer, swatted a loose puck as he was sprawled in the crease. Ron Hextall made 20 saves. Brian MacLellan (1-1-2) and Neal Broten (1-1-2) scored PPGs for Minnesota and Jon Casey made 33 saves. Scott Mellanby and Larry DePalma fought briefly a couple of minutes after the North Stars went up 2-0.
October 28, 1989 --Brian Bellows' PPG with 41 seconds left gave Minnesota a 6-5 home win. Bellows swatted the puck off Ken Wregget's (45 saves) shoulder after the goalie made a stop on a shot from the point. The North Stars held a 51-33 shots advantage. Eleven different players scored. Dave Gagner (1-2-3) and Neal Broten (0-3-3) led Minnesota. Murray Craven (1-2-3) led the Flyers. Dave Poulin's thumb was slashed and he missed the following 14 games.
November 16, 1989 -- Bruce Hoffort made 21 saves, Mike Bullard (1-3-4) had four points and Pelle Eklund (2-0-2) scored twice in the Flyers' 6-3 home win. Among the injured Flyers who did not play were Ron Hextall, Dave Poulin, Rick Tocchet, Ron Sutter and Tim Kerr who minutes prior to the game learned he would have arthroscopic rotator cuff surgery and be out indefinitely (he returned January 23). Don Biggs, subbing for Kerr, scored one of his two career NHL goals, a PPG 1:01 into the third period to give Philly a 5-3 lead. Hoffort, the Flyers, goalie, improved his NHL record to 3-0-1 in his fourth game in 12 days and third start in six days. Jon Casey (11 saves, 14 shots) was replaced by Kari Takko (17 saves, 20 shots) when the Flyers went ahead 3-2. 1990-1994:

February 3, 1990 --Ken Wregget made 46 saves and Mike Bullard's goal with nine seconds left in OT gave the Flyers a 7-6 home win. Rick Tocchet (1-3-4) and Pelle Eklund (2-1-3) assisted on the GWG on a terrific passing play. Dave Gagner (2-1-3) scored with four seconds left in regulation to finish a four-goal rally for Minnesota. Tim Kerr (1-2-3) had three points in a span of 6:08 in the first period. The Flyers led 4-2 after one period and 6-2 heading into the final minute of the second period when Mike Modano (1-1-2) scored a PPG. The North Stars scored three times in the final 7:04 of the third period which sent the game to OT. The Flyers were outshot 52-23 and Minnesota's total was the most by an opponent in the Spectrum. The North Stars held shot advantages of 18-6 in the second period and 15-1 in the third period. Craig Berube and Jeff Chychrun fought Basil McRae in separate battles. After the game, Flyers' head coach Paul Holmgren said "Without Ken Wregget, it could have been 21-7." The game began at 11:00 a.m. due to the Flyers' Wives Carival (charity) held that weekend.
June 8, 1990 -- Bob Clarke began his tenure as the Minnesota North Stars VP/GM until June 20, 1992 when he rejoined the Flyers.
November 1, 1990 -- Ken Wregget made 25 saves in the Flyers' 6-3 home win. The Flyers led the entire game after Rick Tocchet made the score 1-0. Derrick Smith scored a key goal in the third period to make the score 5-3 after the North Stars scored twice on special teams. Norm Lacombe and Keith Acton each had three points for the Flyers. Mike Ricci and Dale Kushner each scored their first career NHL goals. Brian Propp scored Minnesota's first goal.
December 8, 1990 -- Brian Propp (1-1-2) had points on the first two goals, seven North Stars scored and Brian Hayward made 22 saves in their 7-0 home win. Mike Modano (1-2-3) had three points. Peter Peeters (10 saves) was replaced in the first period with Philly down 3-0 by Ken Wregget (20 saves) who went the rest of the way. Minnesota head coach Bob Gainey returned to the bench after missing the prior two games due to surgery to his wife.
February 26, 1991 -- Ken Wregget made 42 saves for Philly in a 2-2 tie in the Met Center. Wregget was a perfect 19-for-19 in the first period and held the Flyers in the game as his squad was outshot 16-5 in the third period and OT. Pelle Eklund and Mike Ricci each had two points in the first period but the North Stars tied it with two second period tallies. Minnesota outshot the Flyers 44-21.
October 24, 1991 -- Dominic Roussel made 26 saves and the Flyers out-scored Minnesota 4-0 in the third period en route to a 5-2 road win. Mark Howe, in his second game in nearly a calendar year, was a +5 and assisted on Pelle Eklund's tying goal. Kimbi Daniels scored the only goal in his 27-game NHL career and it was the eventual GWG. No Flyer had more than one point. The Flyers outshot the North Stars 46-28. Jon Casey made 41 saves in the loss. Minnesota's Brian Propp scored twice and gave Minnesota a 1-0 lead as he became the 25th NHL player to score 400 goals.
October 26, 1991 -- Derrick Smith, placed on waivers October 24, rejoined Bob Clarke as he was claimed on waivers by the North Stars from Philadelphia. Smith made his NHL debut with the Flyers in 1984. Said Flyers' head coach Paul Holmgren "He's played the last seven years and been a pretty solid player for us. I sort of feel bad for him," after learning that Smith was placed on waivers.
December 21, 1991 -- Ron Hextall made 34 saves and picked up his second career regular season shutout in a 3-0 win at Minnesota. Hextall returned to action after missing nearly a month due to a shoulder injury. It was the Flyers' first regular season shutout in Minnesota since 1970. Rod Brind'Amour and Kevin Dineen each had a goal and an assist. The Flyers were outshot 34-19.
January 30, 1992 -- Garry Galley scored a PPG with 5:58 to play in a 5-3 Flyers' home win. Mark Howe scored two PPGs in the first period, in just his 16th game of the season. Each team had three PPGs and the Flyers went 3-for-9. Mike Modano (1-2-3), Neal Broten (1-1-2) and Brian Bellows (0-2-2) all had multi-point games for Minnesota. Keith Acton added an ENG.
February 20, 1993 -- In the Flyers last visit to Minnesota in this series, the North Stars prevailed 5-2. The Flyers led 2-0 but the North Stars tied the game with goals in the last four minutes of the opening period. Minnesota took the lead with a SHG, dominated the middle period and led 5-2 through 40 minutes. Mark Tinordi (1-1-2) led the offense and Jon Casey made 26 saves. North Stars' owner Norman Green completed a week-long discussion with officials in Dallas regarding a possible relocation of the franchise.
March 16, 1993 --Tommy Soderstrom made 31 saves and the Flyers recorded a 4-3 home win on Al Conroy's third period tally (one of nine goals in his NHL career). Keith Acton, Eric Lindros (his 30th) and Rod Brind'Amour scored in the first 10:15 of the second period to give Philly a 3-1 lead. Garry Galley had 10 shots on goal. In the last 40 regular season games in Philadelphia, the Flyers owned a 31-3-6 record in this series. It was final team the teams met before the relocation of the North Stars to Dallas.
January 6, 1994 -- Darcy Wakaluk stopped 35 shots and Neal Broten had four points in the Stars 8-0 home win. Broten (1-3-4) had four points on the first five goals. Other key contributors included Russ Courtnall (0-4-4), Grant Ledyard (1-2-3) and Ulf Dahlen (2-0-2). Derian Hatcher was ejected near the game's midway point. Mike Modano suffered a sprained right knee after being kneed by Dave Brown, who was handed a 5-minute major, and missed the next three weeks. It was the first time the teams met since the Minnesota North Stars relocated to Dallas.
March 8, 1994 -- Neal Broten scored a PPG 2:43 into OT and Dallas won 4-3 in Philly. Dave Tippett was in the box for holding Mike Modano's stick and then received a game-misconduct upon the winning goal, as he chastised ref Mark Faucette. Dallas' offensive stars included Broten (2-0-2) and Brent Gilchrist (1-2-3). Mark Recchi led Philly with three (0-3-3) points. Dallas held a 31-24 shots advantage including 14-6 in the third period and OT. Eric Lindros, who exchanged minors with goalie Darcy Wakaluk, was then ejected with four seconds left in regulation for fighting Jim Johnson -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=inHwHoztp7k . Kevin Dineen suffered a mild separated right shoulder and missed the next three games. Prior to the game, the Flyers inducted Tim Kerr into the team's Hall of Fame.
March 21, 1994 -- Pelle Eklund was dealt to the Stars for an 8th round pick (Raymond Giroux) the day prior to his 31st birthday and on the NHL's trade deadline. Eklund played in 589 regular season and 57 PO games for the Flyers; he appeared in 5 regular season and 9 post-season games for Dallas before returning to Sweden.

1995-1999:

December 13, 1995 -- The Flyers acquired Trent Klatt for Brent Fedyk. GM Bob Clarke said "Klatt will bring us some size and strength along the boards and strength in the corners. It wasn't that we were trying to move Fedyk. We're actually pretty happy with the way our team is playing. We just feel if we could add a player like Klatt that we could afford to trade Fedyk."
January 15, 1996 -- Ron Hextall made 35 saves and John LeClair (2-1-3), Eric Lindros (1-2-3) and Rod Brind'Amour (1-2-3) totaled nine points in a 6-1 home win. The Flyers went 3-for-5 on the PP. Manny Fernandez gave up five goals and was replaced by Darcy Wakaluk. Dallas' only goal was by former Flyer Brent Fedyk. The Stars outshot Philly 36-34. February 28, 1996 -- Eric Lindros celebrated his 23rd birthday by scoring twice, including his 40th of the season, in a 4-4 OT tie at Dallas. Pat Falloon and Craig MacTavish scored in the third period after Philly trailed 4-2. Benoit Hogue had three assists for Dallas. Shawn Antoski and Bill Huard fought as they did earlier in the prior game.
December 6, 1996 --Dale Hawerchuk snapped a 3-3 tie with 8:25 remaining in regulation and then Mikael Renberg (2-0-2) scored the first of his two consecutive goals 42 seconds later and the Flyers recorded a 6-3 win in Dallas. Ron Hextall made 33 saves. The Flyers led 3-1 after two periods but the Stars evened the score in the third period on Derian Hatcher's first goal of the season. January 21, 1997 -- Ron Hextall made 32 saves in a 3-3 tie at Philly. Dallas held a 35-28 shots advantage including 4-0 in overtime. John LeClair had the tying goal near the midway point of the third period. Each team scored in all three regulation periods. Paul Coffey (0-2-2) recorded his 1,050th career assist which moved him past Gordie Howe for second place on the all-time list. Jere Lehtinen (1-1-2), Benoit Hogue (1-1-2) and Andy Moog (25 saves) led the Stars.
November 2, 1997 --Jamie Langenbrunner's goal with 1:17 left in the second period gave Dallas a 3-3 tie in Philly. Ron Hextall, who collided with Paul Coffey, lay prone on the ice as the tying goal was scored and later said he briefly couldn't feel his toes, fingers, legs and arms. Hextall was replaced by Garth Snow at the start of the third. Dallas led 2-0but the Flyers scored three times in a span of 3:01 and Eric Lindros assisted on the last two goals. All six goals were scored in the second period.
February 4, 1998 --Roman Turek stopped 26 shots for his first career shutout (in his 20th appearance) and Pat Verbeek's PPG was the only score in Dallas' 1-0 home win. The Stars set a franchise record with their eighth shutout of the season.
March 14, 1999 -- Mike Modano and Jody Hull, who broke a 24-game scoreless drought, scored in the second period and the game ended in a 1-1 tie in Philly. The Flyers' winless streak went to 11 games (0-7-4). John Vanbiesbrouck was whistled for a minor with 2:14 left in OT but the Flyers held the Stars without a shot. In the first minute of play, captains Eric Lindros and Derian Hatcher fought. "I was changing things up a bit, he knew what I was doing," Lindros said. "He came right at me. I was skating up ice and he slashed me. I don't think there was much of a doubt what he was trying to do," Hatcher replied. November 18, 1999 -- Mike Modano scored with 30.7 seconds left in the third period to give Dallas a 1-1 tie at Philadelphia. John Vanbiesbrouck said afterwards "It was kind of a fluky goal. They poked at it and I got my pad on it, but not enough to keep it out of the net." Daymond Langkow had six of Philly's 20 shots and scored in the first period. Dallas entered the game with 999 wins in the franchise's history.

2000-2009:

March 1, 2000 -- Ed Belfour made 25 saves for the 49th shutout of his career and Dallas won 2-0 at home despite just 16 shots. Mike Modano gave the Stars a 1-0 lead. It was the third straight goal by Modano against the Flyers spanning three games. Among the injured for this game: Joe Nieuwendyk, Jere Lehtinen, Blake Sloan, Shawn Chambers and Brian Skrudland of Dallas and Eric Lindros, Keith Primeau, Dan McGillis, Luke Richardson and Ulf Samuelsson for the Flyers.
October 12, 2000 -- Brett Hull (2-0-2) scored the 613th and 614th goals of his career to surpass Mario Lemieux on the all-time goals scored list and Ed Belfour made 26 saves in Dallas' 4-1 home win. Hull had seven of his team's 22 shots off goalie Maxime Ouellett, who took the loss for what would be the only decision in his Flyers' career. The Flyers were without Mark Recchi and John LeClair due to injuries while the Stars' Jamie Langenbrunner was absent due to the birth of his child.
November 23, 2001 -- The teams met in Dallas' new American Airlines Center and the Stars rallied three times in a 3-3 tie. Joe Nieuwendyk scored with 4:47 left in the third period for the game's final goal. Chris McAllister and Marty Murray each had two assists for the Flyers.
December 20, 2001 -- Brian Boucher made 29 saves and Keith Primeau (1-1-2) had the GWG in the Flyers' 2-1 home win. The victory snapped an 8-game skid (0-3-5) in this series. Marty Murray and Chris McAllister contributed on the first goal and had six total points in the last two games against Dallas. Ed Belfour had 27 saves in the loss.
December 17, 2002 -- Keith Primeau, Marty Murray and Mark Recchi each had two points and the Flyers scored two third period PPGs in 59 seconds in a 2-2 home tie. The Flyers were 3-for-68 on the PP prior to the goals. Philly went 2-for-9 on the PP (Dallas was 1-for-4) and had seven opportunities in the third period; the Stars were whistled for six straight minors in the last 10 minutes of regulation. Derian Hatcher was given a double minor at 13:56 including an unsportsmanlike penalty, then Richard Matvichuk was assessed a double high sticking infraction with 28 seconds to play in regulation. Philly was outshot 42-36 but held a 5-1 edge in the OT. Roman Cechmanek made 40 saves and Marty Turco turned aside 34. Murray had five points in his last three games against Dallas. Mike Modano gave Dallas a 1-0 lead in the first minute of play but then left the game about five minutes later after Jeremy Roenick (eventually suspended two games) was called for a five-minute boarding major; however, the Flyers killed the penalty. Dallas made it 2-0 on another PP. Sergei Zubov played 30+ minutes.
December 29, 2003 -- In Ken Hitchcock's return to Dallas, the teams skated to a 2-2 tie. Pierre Turgeon had the tying goal in the third period. Sergei Zubov (1-1-2) factored in both of Dallas' goals. The Stars went 2-for-7 on the PP while the Flyers went 0-for-2. Marty Turco was 13-for-13 and had 26 saves. Robert Esche made 20 stops. Mike Comrie scored his first Flyers' goal in his second game and Kim Johnsson made it 2-0. The teams tied in seven of their last 11 meetings. Afterwards, Hitchcock remarked of the officiating "We play different hockey than these (Western Conference) teams. Some of these calls would have not been calls back east."
March 8, 2004 -- Chris Therien was traded to Dallas for Phoenix's 8th round choice (Philly chose Martin Houle) in the 2004 Entry Draft and Dallas' 3rd round choice (later traded to Tampa Bay) in the 2005 Entry Draft.
March 11, 2004 -- The teams skated to a 2-2 OT tie in Philly. Brendan Morrow scored with 35 seconds to play in the third period. Robert Esche made 37 saves including five in OT where the Stars outshot Philly 5-2. Dallas held a 39-22 shots advantage. Tony Amonte (1-1-2) and Alex Zhamnov (0-2-2) factored in both Flyers' goals. Donald Brashear was called for a double-minor for high-sticking Teppo Numminen on a play which replays clearly showed that Numminen was knocked down by the stick of teammate Richard Matvichuk. Flyers' head coach Ken Hitchcock said "Esche was great. He is really playing well right now. He is really focused and meeting the challenge. These are good teams we're playing, and he is matching every goalie."
March 13, 2007 -- Jussi Jokinen snapped a 1-1 third period tie and 36 seconds later Mike Modano 500th NHL goal gave the Stars a two-goal cushion in an eventual 3-2 win in Dallas. The Stars held a 33-19 shots advantage. Antero Niittymaki made 30 saves in the loss. December 1, 2007 -- Dallas erupted for three second period goals, including two PPGs in under two minutes, en route to a 4-1 win in Philly. The Stars didn't register a shot on goal for the first 10+ minutes of the game but had a 24-10 advantage through two periods and 30-18 overall. Randy Jones gave Philly a 1-0 lead 41 seconds into the game. Four Stars scored and Brendan Morrow and Trevor Daley each had two assists. Dallas was playing for the sixth time in the last nine days. November 24, 2008 -- Mike Knuble (2-0-2) scored the GWG with 5:08 to play in a 4-3 home win. The teams alternated the seven goals. Martin Biron made 22 saves and Simon Gagne (0-2-2) had two points. Dallas had just 2 PIMs while the Flyers had (10 PIMs) five minors including three in the third period and killed each. Mike Modano (2-0-2), who won 17 of 25 faceoffs, scored twice in the second period. It was the Flyers' fifth straight win. January 12, 2010 -- Michael Leighton, in his eighth straight start, made 27 saves and improved to 8-0-1 and 14 Flyers recorded points, a team first since December 31, 1997 (at Vancouver), in a 6-3 home win. Simon Gagne, Darroll Powe and Ian Laperriere each had a goal and an assist. The Flyers snapped a 1-1 tie with four straight goals in the second period. Philly went 2-for-4 on PPs, 5-for-5 on PKs and got a SHG from Kimmo Timonen to make it 3-1. Marty Turco (14 saves, 19 shots) was replaced by Alex Auld (8 saves, 9 shots). March 18, 2010 -- Scott Hartnell scored the only goal in the third period and Brian Boucher made 27 in his first start since learning he'd be the team's #1 goalie (Michael Leighton injury) in Philly's 3-2 win at Dallas. This was the Flyers' second victory in Dallas and first since December 6, 1996. Steve Ott scored twice for Dallas in the first period. Ian Laperriere fought Brian Sutherby. February 5, 2011 -- Brian Boucher made 30 saves in Philly's 3-1 home win. Andrej Meszaros gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead with 1:20 left in the first period. Darroll Powe's SHG 1:19 into the second period snapped a scoreless drought of 34 games (first since November 15). Jeff Carter's 25th goal was an ENG. March 19, 2011 -- Ville Leino scored in the sixth round of the shootout to give the Flyers a 3-2 SO win at Dallas. It was the Flyers' fifth straight win in this series. Jeff Carter and Mike Richards gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead with defensemen Andrei Meszaros (0-2-2) and Matt Carle (0-2-2) assisting on both goals. Stephane Robidas tied the game with 5:36 to play. The Flyers won the six-round shootout 2-1: Mike Ribeiro scored in the third round, following Claude Giroux's second-round goal. Sergei Bobrovsky made 28 saves as did Kari Lehtonen who fell to 0-10-2 lifetime against the Flyers. The Flyers secured a playoff spot with this victory. December 21, 2011 -- Claude Giroux (1-3-4) had four points in his return from a four-game absence due to a concussion and Sergei Bobrovsky made 30 saves in the Flyers' 4-1 win at Dallas. February 16, 2011 -- The Flyers acquired Nicklas Grossmann from Dallas in exchange for the Kings' second-round pick in 2012 (Dallas chose Devin Shore) and Minnesota's third-round pick in 2013 (later traded to Pittsburgh who selected Jake Guentzel).
December 7, 2013 -- Dallas scored three times in 62 seconds, the third fastest three goals scored against the Flyers, in a 5-1 home win. Tyler Seguin (3-1-4, +4) had a natural hat trick in the second period including two goals in 40 seconds. Valeri Nichushkin (1-3-4, +3) scored the fourth goal in the period which made it 4-1. Dan Ellis made 27 saves. The Flyers killed a 7-minute PP against Zac Rinaldo (27 PIMs) who was ejected 1:15 into the game. Andrej Meszaros scored the only goal in the first period. The game was tied 1-1 heading into the final three minutes of the second period.
March 20, 2014 -- Steve Mason made 33 saves and Wayne Simmonds scored twice (2-0-2) in the Flyers' 4-2 win at home. The Flyers won for the fourth time in six days (twice vs. Pittsburgh and once vs. Chicago). Mark Streit snapped a scoreless tie off a faceoff win by Claude Giroux. The game had five minors: two against Dallas in the first period and three against the Flyers in the second period. Jamie Benn (2-0-2) scored twice for Dallas and his second came 30 seconds after the Flyers pulled ahead 3-1 in the third period. Michael Raffl split the defense and clinched the win with 3:12 left. October 18, 2014 -- Claude Giroux's PPG 2:49 into OT gave Philly a 6-5 road win. The Flyers had failed on a prior PP called with 4 seconds left in regulation. Dallas took a 4-2 lead with two goals 56 seconds apart in the closing 1:27 of the second period. Steve Mason (14 saves, 18 shots) was replaced by Ray Emery (4 saves, 5 shots) to start the third period. Dallas was 2-for-3 on PPs with Trevor Daley (2-0-2) scoring both. Jason Spezza (1-3-4) and Tyler Sequin (0-4-4) both had four points. Jake Voracek (1-2-3) led Philly. The Flyers held a 13-5 shot advantage covering the third period and OT (2-0 in shots). The Flyers rallied from three deficits and tied the game with 5:46 and 3:53 left in regulation which sandwiched a goal by Dallas that gave the Stars a 5-4 lead with 5:06 to play. Kari Lehtonen fell to 0-10-3 against the Flyers.

On another note though, anyone notice Giroux is only 44.7% on faceoffs on the season? Worst on the team, very unlike him. Just gonna put it down to small sample size so far.
