If Switzerland wins this one and gets the 3 points, USA is out and Switzerland in. However, i doubt USA loses this.

According to my calculations (and with the assumption that Sweden will take three points from their game against France) it would mean that the standings of group E would look like this

1. RUS 14
2. SWE 10
3. SUI 7
4. USA 7

5. LAT 7
6. FRA 0

For the three teams ending up at seven points, the points gathered from the games they played among themselves would be SUI 4, USA 3 and LAT 2.

Please correct me (anyone), if you find mistakes.

not really.

assuming sweden beats france, latvia/USA/switzerland would all sit at 7 points. so only the games between these nations count.

usa beat latvia 4-2
latvia beat switzerland 2-1 after SO
(switzerland beat USA in regular)

usa would have 3 points out of these games, switzerland 4 and latvia only 2. therefore latvia would be out.

at least this is what my mind gives me early in the morning. should be correct though. it's latvia or switzerland, usa is safe.

edit: dr despair beats me to it, drew the same conclusions luckily. ;)

Oh yea, i just thought because latvia beat switzerland they would be in instead of usa but yea thats right. When 3 teams are at same points all those games they played against eachother counts.

I hope Switzerland wins in regulation! That would mean:
Switzerland plays in the quarterfinals and we have the match-up Canada-USA.

Switzerland has been in many quarterfinals, and I hope the USA wins this game. However I believe that Americans are not motivated enough and if they lose, Latvia will not be in quarterfinals.

Switzerland is not a weak team, no matter how much they whine about their coach.

I think the US players will be motivated, if they lose this one Switzerland will be ranked ahead of them and they'll probably have to play Canada

I think you're safe. I don't think Swiss will beat USA in regulation.
