We are only looking at their NHL careers, of course. Who would you pick BPA (Best Player Available) ???

Don't pick based on your team needs, etc. Pick on who is better at hockey and what they have done at the NHL level. But for some guys (like ), what you project them to do over their NHL careers.

Please make your suggestions or let me know if there's a mistake or an omission.

Holtby had a very good 3-4 years peak but people really think nobody in there going to "surpass" him when all is said and done? Guys like Igor Shestyorkin, Jaccob Slavin, Devon Toews, Drake Batherson?

Juuse Saros has a career SV% of 0.921. Holtby career SV% is 0.915

But yeah Saros might never play for a team that was as good as the Caps were.

Slavin just keeps coming back year after year and tilting the ice like crazy. Regardless of partner, regardless of goalie. Guys like Hamilton and Nedeljkovic and Pesce and Mrazek and Andersen and Deangelo keep having career years next to him.

He does defensively what Makar does offensively, while also being a pretty high-end puck mover. If he were a negative image of himself, with reversed results in the offensive and defensive zones, he would have won a Norris or two by now.

Getting him way down in the 4th round changed the trajectory of the Hurricanes franchise. It's hard to oversell how much of a difference he made when they transitioned from a terrible Staal/Skinner/Faulk team to what they are today.

I think there's a very good chance Shesterkin could surpass Holtby - but in my opinion he's too far away/too much uncertainty for me to vote for him yet. Nothing about him per se either I don't like, but goalies are so volatile. Let's see him have one full season under his belt where he's among league leaders before projecting him above Holtby for career - and then no guarantee he can repeat consistently either.

As for Saros - I like him, and I was actually of the mindset he should have either won the vezina, or come a lot closer last year. But no, I'd be shocked to see him surpass Holtby's prime/career. Holtby is extremely strong for playoffs too don't forget.

When I make polls, I am not asking people to read a statsline. Everybody can do that and I surely can. We are not ranking players here for only what they did. Some of them are already retired but some others are just starting. This is why these polls are asking people to PROJECT these players, exactly like teams do at the draft table or when they make trades, etc.

So if you think there's a "very good chance" that Shesterkin surpasses Holtby, why don't you vote for him then? Do you think he won't or he will? Can you make that decision?

IMO (and many others), there's no uncertainty regarding Shesterkin, he's elite and will be for a while (as long as injuries don't derail anything of course)

I am not sure why you are trying to convince me about Holtby, I am just ONE voice in the polls and the results so far say that most people think that Gaudreau and Slavin will be better when all is said and done. Don't be surprised if Shesterkin is voted #3. Holtby will probably go #4. That's about where I'd have him too, maybe #5. Absolutely have to consider Toews, Batherson and Swayman
