We are only looking at their NHL careers, of course. Who would you pick BPA (Best Player Available) ???

Don't pick based on your team needs, etc. Pick on who is better at hockey and what they have done at the NHL level. But for some guys (like ), what you project them to do over their NHL careers.

Please make your suggestions or let me know if there's a mistake or an omission.

This is tough. Holtby is the only one with a major individual award, but Shesterkin could get one this year. Slavin and Gaudreau have been among the best at their positions in various years,

Slavin vs Gaudreau vs Shesterkin for the top-3 IMO

Then plenty of other good choices. This seems to be a round favorable to pick up goalies recently. Several of them have great starts/potential

Also has been a round to find very good D-men, but not a lot of prolific scorers

Not sure how you can justify putting Shesterkin that high. He's very clearly behind Holtby, at the very least. Did you just miss Holtby, or do you really place him behind?

Shsterkin is really good, and maybe he'll end up with a better career, but 5-6 years into his career Holtby had the highest sv% in the history of the NHL playoffs, and a Vezina and a 2nd place finish. I know he's slowed down a bit since, but Shesterkin has yet to reach that, and considering how volatile the goalie position is I think it's still too much to project him above Holtby just yet.

To me Gaudreau is a very easy #1 here though.

That's what I think too. I think Shesterkin will get a lot of recency bias votes, but people will forget how amazing Holtby was during the mid 2010s.

What do you mean if I missed Holtby? Pretty sure I have him in the options

Yes I really place him behind because Shesterkin is already better than Holtby ever been and actually than most goalies I have ever seen. I think the NHL is going to be a 2-headed monster for a while regarding goalies (the other is Vasilevskiy)

So yes I can project him above Holtby. It's not because it can be "difficult" for someone that it's going to be difficult for everybody. SV% also doesn't tell the whole story. Hockey implies a lot of variables and different contexts. That's why you can just look at stats or advanced stats as the "be all and end all". Shesterkin is 100% legit

I'm pretty sure that most people would share that opinion, that Shesterkin will have been a better goalie than Holtby when all is said and done.

To me Gaudreau is a very easy #1 here though.

Then go ahead and vote Gaudreau. That's actually the point of these polls. I didn't even vote Shesterkin

Great 3-4 years peak

Yeah Shesterkin is probably 4th right now, but wouldnt be surprised if he was 1st on this list when his careers end. Kinda like Kaprizov who ended up rd in his poll, but will have a very good chance of passing Helleybuck and maybe also Benn. Benn got that Art Ross which I believe Kaprizov wont get, but might get him on total career stats.

Kaprizov should have been first. it was the right choice and he's proving it

How did Hjalmarsson get zero votes? I know he didn't do much offensively but he's possibly one of the best defensive defensemen that I've seen.

Well he got 3 votes in the poll #2

I'd say it's very high praise, he's probably going to be voted in the top-10 among the best 4th round picks in 20 years
