I actually agree with him though, and not just Rory, all of them.
Its an exciting tournament, but are people really going to say with Rory's career, "what a clutch putt in that Saturday four ball match at the 2016 RC." or are they going to say, "Rory was clutch making a putt at so and so major in so and so year"? Have some perspective. This event means absolutely nothing for Rory's career. Easier said than done to not care though, Rory's a competitor.
I guess for someone like Pat Reed who's not won a major or Ian Poulter its a really big deal, but I've always thought that the main reason that golfers like Tiger and Phil perform poorly in the RC is because they really don't care. Tiger's even been quoting saying he'd rather win an event for 1M than the Ryder Cup, and as a fan of Tiger, I would agree. Had he been in the Tour Championship last week, I'd have rather him winning that event than the USA winning this event.
