Well, we could look at the numbers:

Provorov PP60 0.75; relCF% -2.34; relGF% -1.09; relxGF% -1.66
Ghost PP60 1.03; relCF% 0.37; relGF% 4.14; relxGF% -1.33
Manning PP60 1.18; relCF% 2.16; relGF% 3.06; relxGF% 1.82
Sanheim PP60 0.62; rel CF% 7.22; relGF% -17.14; relxGF% 5.88

Well, that's pretty obvious, Manning is the best of the four and Provorov is the worst.

That is decidedly not what those numbers say. They say Player D has had unsustainably bad puck luck and should be considered the clear best of the bunch at 5v5.

You would think a guy that throws stats around in every other post would actually know what they mean.

You can do more than argue he's been better than Provorov. He has been.

Its still close for me as Provys first 30 plus games were with MacDonald and Hagg playing nearly 30 minutes on some nights against top lines. Hes also managed to outscore Ghost at ES thus far.

What?! Ghost had to play with Hagg and Manning.
Ghost outscores Provorov 5v5 and his special teams impact is greater.

I watched the game on tape just now because it actually looked like fun. Good observations in here, but I still can’t get over Manning on the PP. What happened to him being a “defensive defenseman”? The PP2 struggles and at no point does the idea of playing Sanheim on it enter the coaches’ brains. But he gets his scratch vacation and suddenly they decide to ditch the 4/1 FWD/D set-up.....for Manning, who continues to look invulnerable to a present scratch and is the only one who is even eligible for one.

We really don’t know who controls or suggests what on the PP as related to personnel, and Knoblauch doesn’t get absolved, but jfc that sounds like such a Hakstol idea I’d bet my house on it. Sanheim and TK get no PP time, but Weise and Manning do.

Etc, etc, I hate this team. Please kill me.

I said it in the GDT and I'll say it again. Physicality suits the makeup of this team. Bullies nostalgia aside, many of our key players tend to ratchet up their intensity when the games are hard-hitting, chippy, with lots of chirping.

Simmonds is seen as tough guy but he's not much of a hitter and I think that's a mistake on his part. When he takes the body he turns into a different kind of player one not so prone to long 5v5 disappearances.

Even players that aren't getting in on the physical side seem to enjoy that kind of environment. Voracek, Giroux, Konency were very visibly into this matchup due to the intense nature of the gameplay. Its sad that Hak's style is the polar opposite of that.

Manning’s agent was thrilled to see that move.

I am loving this trend where you're not actually first.

Skimmed through this game (will watch in full later), but just came to laugh at G's misadventures with the empty net.
I place the blame on MSE. He displays no consistency in opening the Post Game.
