Let’s see how they do against the Islanders.

2 games against Islanders. 2 games against the Bruins. By next Thursday you'll even more easily than even now be able to stick in the fork...

No one will play with Chuck in his sandbox..

True. However I also want to see more of Laczynski, Allison, Zamula and possibly York; and if they are healthy enough Frost and Ustimenko. This means clearing the locker room of some vets-Laughton, Raffl for sure and possibly others. This is going to be an issue since I can't see AV wanting to work with the young guys and possibly I don't want to see them exposed to AV's management style.

We played 6 rookies last season.
We have 9 starters under 25 (and if Frost was healthy, could be 10): TK, Farabee, Lindblom, Patrick, NAK, Provorov, Myers, Sanheim, Hart (and Bunnaman got a number of starts).

Sure sounds like AV is allergic to young players.

Fletcher would never say it, but losing 2 of 4, and pretty much ending the pretense of making the playoffs would make his life a lot easier, no pressure to add a goalie and defenseman at the TDL. Instead he can shop Raffl, Laughton, Ghost (with money retained or a contract in return), Elliott, Braun, Hagg, Gus.

You are correct and astute and could very well be Chuck's plan. Fletcher is not a bad GM, at least in my opinion, but waited too long. This is not an organization any longer that cares about the fans or even listens that well unless it affects their bottom line. If the merchandise stopped getting bought and there were not fannies in the seats, now then that would make an impression.

Just because they get on the ice isn't the question. Its the benchings and blame throwing in the press with the young guys that bothers me. The regression of their play speaks for itself. They need to be getting better at their game not the reverse. Voracek, Hayes, and other vets, aside from Gostisbehere, mess up without being subjected to being ripped or sat down.

AV has called out Hayes and Voracek and certainly JVR at times. He's probably too frank with the media about players, so much for wanting a coach to talk in something other than "coach speak."

Benching young players is pretty normal, people here act like most HCs pushing for the playoffs are patient with young players going through tough spells - ain't so - Hextall said it right, the NHL is not a developmental league, do your developing in the AHL.

The thing with AV is he has a "short memory," he talks out of school, bench a player for a game or two, then all is forgiven when the player returns, until they screw up again.

Nor can all the blame for some players regressing be placed on AV, Provorov is back to normal (lingering injury?), Farabee had made a big jump, TK isn't scoring but has solid metrics, xGF%, xGF/60, Sanheim/Myers may be more other HCs recognizing a weakness (vulnerable to an aggressive forecheck), and so on. Hart? Headcase this year.

Time for another wholesome and asswhoopin' loss for the Flyers. AV will have no answers and feel nothing from it. Cycle of bullshit will continue.

With the upcoming games, it's possible that the Flyers standing could plummet. It's still very possible to get a top 10 pick.

And another thing, I would think that it's even more telling that if the Flyers don't come out of the gate hard for this game after that last embarrassing loss, then I don't think they'll really recover for the rest of the season.

Teams have funky seasons:
2016-17 Lightning, 94 points, miss the PO after 101, 108, 97 seasons and SF finals, CF finals
2013-14 Caps, 90 points, after 108, 121, 107, 92, 97 (pro-rated), the 5 straight 100 point seasons and a Cup
2014-15, 2015-16 Bruins, 96, 93 points after 103, 102, 106 (pro-rated), 117 and a Cup and SF appearance
2017-18 Blues, 94 points, after 111, 109, 107, then won the Cup the next season

Team with rebuilding setbacks:
Colorado, 112 points in 2013-14, then 90, 82, 82, before making the playoffs 3 straight seasons
Islanders, 94, 79, 101, 100, 94, 80, 103
Florida, 66, 91, 103, 81, 96, 86, 93 (pro-rated), this season

Flyers are more like rebuilding teams struggling to get over the hump than established teams having an off year.
I think this is because they haven't hit "critical mass" where there's enough talent that injuries or bad luck doesn't sink you.
However, we're on a 94 point pace, which is similar to the first group.
Given our goalie play, ending this season on a 90+ pace suggests only a couple tweaks are needed.

Back to third line minutes for our best player this year, TK on the wrong side, Patrick on wing, Lindblom out, dumb "top line" back together. There's no foresight, strategy, or brains at all. It's just completely random and careless. Also wouldn't be at all surprised to see Hagg-Gus play.

As bad as this year has been, win this and next week and we are in.

Then we see the lines...Lindblom can play hockey. Ghost over Braun so easily. Braun is back to being horrible. Play G!

The lines look pretty reasonable to me. Patrick has shown nothing at center all year so maybe keep him at wing the rest of the season and see if it helps any. Hayes with Laughton and Patrick means he can do his usual puck hogging without wasting Giroux or any top players ice time. If lines 3 and 2 were flipped things would look good.
