Anyone think the 3 point line ruined the game of basketball? I think it's abused way too much in today's game. I know the NBA or NCAA would never do away with it, but I think a cap on the number of 3 point shots a team can take per quarter would do some good. It would make the 3 point shot more situational which is what it was intended to be in the first place. JMO

No it’s not abused. If you can consistently make 3s then why not take them?
Dick Vitale was complaining about it last night after the Kansas/Villanova game. He said they need to push the line back and widen the lane 4 inches to encourage more paint play. He said game is too boring with players just running up to the line and shooting 3's.................I've felt that way for a long time. I'd rather see some basketball than guys just spreading out and launching 3 pointers.............

Its just how this era is. In the 80s and 90s there wasn't a many 3s taken, partly because it was a lot easier to be physical and force your way to the basket. Now, refs are a lot more strict.

Besides, its helped certain players like Mike Miller, Kyle Korver make a lot of money and extend their careers. Its also spawned the whole 3 & D type of player.

They actually shortened the distance in the mid 90s to increase the scoring. Just not sure when they went back to the normal distance.

The scoring is really up nowadays. A 91-82 scoreline used to be the final score 10 years ago. Now that's an end-of-the-third-quarter score.

The league has become too soft. Fundamentally the skill is down and every big man thinks their a 3 point specialist. Allowing zone D makes it easier for players to get off shots and cloggs the middle. Stockton to Malone give and goes are a thing of the past because of it.

Yes, I don't know any other game where you get more points for scoring farther away from the goal aside from at Dave & Busters.

Ruined is too strong of a word, but I do think the game today (NBA) is less enjoyable because of it. I would be fine pushing the line back a bit.

Teams overuse them IMO. To me it seems like in some cases teams would rather go for a hard 3 than a easier 2 point play.
