Yesterday was Exhibit A of how Cammalleri will pay dividends for this team with the amount of one goal games this team will play this year. Huge to add the extra goals he will bring.

I got a kick out of the "who will get injured first" dicsussion last night. That is really what some people want to post after that win yesterday. :shakehead

QFt. Heaven forbid fans enjoy a Florida sweep, considering their last few seasons sojourns down south.

They should stick to crafty trade proposals.

That was DevilishPredator who brought that up and I was none too pleased because that's just asking for a jinx. :help:

Anyway, happy about the 3-game win streak and even more happy that Slammer gets to do a 4th-straight GDT(is that a record?).

But excuse me for being a so-called "Negative nancy that should go pound sand" but Sal IS TERRIBLE, Period. He used to be solid but not anymore. That is the truth.

We're not really playing noticeably different from last year, at least in my eyes, we're just getting the bounces we didn't get last year.

Severson's goal vs Florida doesn't happen last year
Cammalleri's goal vs Tampa doesn't happen last year
Schneider/Ruutu's combo to stop the wraparound vs Tampa is in last year

etc.

We just seem to be a step ahead mentally of where we were last year.

Seems to be contradictory statements no?

There is far less dump and chase and so much more carrying in...Far less cycling (which I'm not happy about), the breakouts have been totally revamped and a drop pass to get a player with a head-of-steam carrying the puck has been added to both the PP and regular breakout...The defense is also pinching far less (which I am happy about but it seems to be a byproduct of less cycling)

There are significant differences in the way the team is playing this year.

Last year we don't could roll three solid lines. Cammalleri brought stability (and goals) to top line. I just don't understand why Salvador leads our defensemen in TOI. He makes mistakes each shift.

Are we talking neutral zone? Saw a bunch of that against Florida, one d-man caried puck across center ice and then dropped it to another player, middling results thus far from what I have noticed, doesn't look very fluid and has caused lack of momentum.

What I'm seeing is a team that is successfully executing the same game plan they've been struggling to execute the past two years because they finally have the correct personnel to do so now.

The things we're doing better are the result of execution, which is a function of familiarity, chemistry, and systematics. Ryder and Clowe look much more comfortable, Gelinas is a year smarter, Ruutu and Zubrus aren't asked to play as above their heads as they have been, etc. Of course individuals are doing different things because their evolving as players, but this is the style of play Pete has been preaching since Day 1, we just haven't had a chance to see it since June 2012.

Yeah I don't think I see a significant change in style of play. I mean I think different players will look a certain way, so adding the speed of Cam makes things look different, Havlat's skill makes things look different.

And that to me, as noted by someone above is the big difference, the added talent. We have a legit 1st line(thought it was lacking last year with Zubrus or whomever) and overall we have 3 offensively capable lines to roll out there. And we've seen that in terms of production. And not just the goal totals, but the ability to answer when a team ties the game or(though we haven't had the need yet) score a goal to tie a game late.

Faster too. Again Cam, Rico on 3rd line, and the 4th line is much faster then last year.

anyone else read this from cordell? thought he brought up a good point......

Something the Devils are doing that I really like: giving Andy Greene 1-2 power play shifts a game. Right now Severson, Marek Zidlicky, Eric Gelinas and Jon Merrill are patrolling the blue line on their power plays. Greene is fine in that role, but they have other options and giving him some extra rest can't hurt considering the amount of minutes he plays, and the competition he faces. It'll be interesting to see if Pete DeBoer continues doing this.

I can't really complain about a defense that gives up only one goal against Tampa Bay, Bryce Salvador included. If we're doing something wrong there, give us a case of whatever our defense was drinking last night.

devils got lucky. Admit it. Tampa D on the other hand was horrible, shouldve scored more than 2.

As great as Mike is and was, how about Havlat? It's nice to see secondary support as well.
