I would be extremely interested in doing the followed today:

Trade Briere + Pateryn to BUF for the 31st pick (draft Lemieux)
Trade Bourque + Thomas to FLA for the 32nd pick (draft Barbashev)
Trade Moen + 87th pick to CAR for the 67th pick (draft Vanier)
Trade Budaj to DAL for the 135th pick (let Timmins do magic with 3 5th rounders)

These moves obviously makes us worse for the present, but gives us some talent depth at the pipeline. Most important is the salary cap saving, by the moves, approximately saving 10,5M in the process, giving some flexibility for the 69M spending cap limit.

We can toss most of this money at Subban's contract and according to capgeek still have 17M to resign Eller (3,5M) Weaver (1,5M) Tokarski (800k). After the signings we will have 22 players signed and 13M to spend. I would then sign:

Jerome Iginla for 1Y/6M
Jussi Jokinen for 2Y/3,5M
Nikolai Kulemin for 3Y/3,5M

This can give us even more flexibility as Iginla's 6M contract comes to an end right on time to offer Galchenuyk-Gallagher their bridge contracts. My line up...

Price - Tokarski

Pacioretty - Desharnais - Iginla
Galchenuyk - Plekanec - Gallagher
Jokinen - Eller- Kulemin
Prust - Bournival - Weise
ex. Andrighetto - Dumont

Markov - Subban
Emelin - Gorges
Beaulieu - Weaver
ex.Tinordi - Drewiskie

You can't know that these guys will sign.

Also, would not want to trade Pateryn for that return. Having depth is important, as shown by Bergevin's signings and trades. This Time, maybe we can keep our mid-round picks and use our youth that finally looks ready.
