I'll never understand the NHL's kicking motion rule. It seems you can intentionally turn a skate sideways to direct the puck into the net. But god forbid your foot move forward at the puck, even unintentionally, because that's no goal. Seems backwards to me.

They changed the rule, you can redirect now. Just can't have kicking motion.

I think it's for safety reasons. They don't want people kicking at the puck around the net.
