FLYERS VERSUS RANGERS SERIES HISTORY

DAWN OF TIME: Thus, the heavens and the earth were completed in all their vast array. By the seventh day, God had finished the work He had been doing; so on the seventh day He rested from all His work. That evening, a line brawl broke out between the Flyers and Rangers.

September 12, 480 BC: During the 3-day Battle of Thermophilly, 30 Flyers – led by King Sheronidas – heroically held off an advancing horde of New Yorkers. They held the strategic pass until successive off-setting penalties reduced their number to 3 fighters and a wounded mascot.

November 5, 1688: Prince William of Orange landed at Torbay, Devonshire, England, to establish the first official Flyers society. The group was founded on the defense of “the liberties of Englishmen, the Protestant Religion, and the full line brawl.” William and the rest of the Flyers defeated Rangers leader James II Patrick at the Battle of the Boyle. Orange lodges were established around the world, and to this day they continue the proud tradition of the Stanley Cup March.

November 16, 1967: In the first on-ice meeting between the two clubs, the Flyers defeated the Rangers 3-2 on goals by Ed Van Impe, Leon Rochefort and Ed Hoekstra. Doug Favell stopped 30 of 32 shots. No fights occurred in the game; must be a typo.

January 3, 1974: A hat trick by Dave Schultz – with the puck! really!! – propelled the Flyers to a 4-2 win over the Rangers. He didn’t even fight. Not once!

May 5, 1974: The Flyers beat the Rangers 4-3 in Game 7 of their semi-final series. Gary Dornhoefer led the Flyers to victory with 2 goals. The game also featured a fight between Dave Schultz and Dale Rolfe.

September 26, 1978: In a pregame meeting, the Flyers and Rangers had a bench-clearing brawl in the first period that went on for more than 8 minutes. Jim Cunningham and Nick Fotiu were the main combatants.

May 20, 1997: Half-human half-minotaur Eric Lindros led the Flyers to a 6-3 playoff win over the Rangers. Lindros’ dominance in the game not only included a hat trick, but he also bodychecked Esa Tikkanen’s skeleton out of his body and into the 11th row of seats, impregnated 200 women in the crowd during a TV time out, and ate Rangers goaltender Mike Richter’s liver at center ice after the game.

December 30, 2009: Back in the days when the Flyers could score goals at even strength, they beat the Rangers 6-0. Québécois heartthrob Simon Gagné led the attack with 3 goals and an assist. Scott Hartnell did humanity a favour by beating up Sean Avery.

This GDT offered in unabashed adoration  of our very own Deus ex Machina, MSE. Hopefully he will take this as a lighthearted wink at his long history of GDT oeuvres in an "imitation is the sincerest form of flattery" way rather than a juvenile mockery and ejects me into deep space through the pod bay doors.

I had to post early to get this up before late this evening, so have at it after we celebrate the victory (as if!) of the Flyers in this afternoon's game.

Now you know how to play the role of Bobby Taylor. :sarcasm:

I will complete the first post after the Friday game.

Thanks for pinch-hitting.

I hope that screenshot came from one of your games. I also hope that you put Vinny at the first line C and sat Giroux.

Good work on the thread!

Beautiful balance between being funny and actually providing the information we need! Most other teams GDT rarely contain one of these things, let alone either.

What a GDT

As for the game, the plan is to simply make it to OT and wait for Giroux and Ghost to decide to score. Easy.

Yeah, I'll second that. A lot of GDTs are just awful. Helps that Bernie is a funny guy.

Awesome job. Love getting myself ready for a game with the gdt. You must have Shaq sized feet because MSE left big shoes to fill and you filled them!

I skipped a line when reading the lineup and saw that boxcar65 was born in Prague. I mean, we gave the world a lot of stuff, but I am happy I just misread that

I guess I should say "nice GDT". Even though the Rags are fairly soft this year, this is still a rivalry game, so you never know what might happen. For this reason, Hak needs to have his "fighting Dman" in the game. Dylan McIlrath has been playing for them, and he is never afraid to drop the gloves.

The lineup today should definitely have Manning over Schultz. If not, I say we should at least dress 7 D. The 12th forward would not do much anyway, so having an extra D won't hurt.

Great job on the GDT!

Is it wrong that I watched the Kong vs Godzilla fight? We have come a long way with tv/movie capabilities...lol.

How does manning get get the description of a fighting dman? He has dropped the gloves the same amount of times as our captain and peb. I may be one off and manning has 2
