1991-1994:
  • October 31, 1991 -- Mike Ricci had three points and the Flyers handed San Jose the franchise's eleventh straight defeat, 5-2 in Philadelphia on Halloween night. Head coach Paul Holmgren reunited the line of Ricci (1-2-3), Rick Tocchet (2-0-2) and Pelle Eklund (0-1-1) which combined for six points. The Flyers' struggling powerplay entered the game 3-for-51 but went 2-for-7. Tocchet, who scored both PPGs, had the first goal in this series, the first minor penalty and later was involved in the first fight when he battled David Williams in the third period. Ron Hextall, who returned to the lineup after serving a six-game suspension for slashing in a pre-season game, made 25 saves including 15-for-15 in the third period. Link Gaetz and David Bruce scored for San Jose and Jarmo Myllys made 26 saves. San Jose played its 14th NHL game and fell to 1-13-0.
  • January 3, 1992 -- Jeff Hackett made 27 saves and Dale Craigwell's first NHL goal snapped a 1-1 third period tie in the Sharks' 3-1 home victory played at the Cow Palace in Daly City, California. The PPG came during a 5-minute major to Rod Brind'Amour who was ejected for high-sticking. The Flyers later lost the services of Brad Jones for a similar major but killed that penalty. San Jose outshot the Flyers 14-7 in the third period including 8-1 over the last 10 minutes. Kelly Kisio added a SH-ENG with teammate Pat Falloon in the box. Ron Hextall, whose daughter was born the prior day after the team flew to California, made 28 saves. Garry Galley made his Flyers' debut and picked up 7 PIMs including a mostly uneventful fight with Dean Evason.
  • March 1, 1992 -- Mark Freer scored in the first period and Ron Hextall stopped 30 shots in a 1-0 Flyers' shutout victory in the sold-out (10,888) Cow Palace. Al Conroy, pointless in his prior 10 games, set up the winning goal. Conroy fought Kelly Kisio in the third period. Jeff Hackett made 32 saves for the Sharks. The Flyers had eleven shots in each period.
  • December 18, 1992 -- Mark Pederson was traded to San Jose for Dave Snuggerud.
  • December 30, 1992 -- Mark Recchi (2-1-3), Rod Brind'Amour (1-2-3) and Tommy Soderstrom (33 saves) paced the Flyers to a 6-2 road win. Shawn Cronin ended a 127-game scoreless streak (last goal was November 24, 1990, Winnipeg vs. Quebec) which was the NHL's longest current skid. Three Flyers' defensemen scored: Cronin, Garry Galley and Gord Hynes. The Flyers led 4-0 in the third period before the Sharks struck twice. The Flyers' PP was 2-for-3 while the PK was 6-for-6. Sharks' rookie Rob Gaudreau was held scoreless for the first time in his career, ending his 12-game point streak (14 goals, 5 assists). Sandis Ozolinsh suffered a torn anterior cruciate ligament in his left knee and missed the rest of the season. The game was played before a sellout crowd of 11,089 in the Cow Palace.

  • March 25, 1993 -- Mark Recchi (2-1-3), Rod Brind'Amour (1-1-2) and Eric Lindros (1-1-2) led the Flyers to a 5-2 home win. The Flyers held a 22-6 shot advantage through two periods and 33-18 in the game. Lindros scored in his sixth straight game, had 22 PIMs and had a Gordie Howe hat trick with fights vs. Doug Zmolek ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=IqLiehjeoeQ ) and Rob Zettler ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=AsYkndwFCZI ) in the third period. Dominic Roussel made 16 saves but allowed one goal when a puck bounced past him leading to jeers from the home crowd. After the game, Lindros said that "would've gotten by Cal Ripken."
  • February 1, 1994 -- Rob Zettler was acquired from the Sharks for Vyacheslav Butsayev.
  • February 3, 1994 -- Sergei Makarov's goal, off a feed from Igor Larionov, gave San Jose a 3-2 OT win in Philly. Arturs Irbe made 32 saves. The Flyers dropped their fifth straight game. Former Flyer Vyatcheslav Butsayev, on his first shift with San Jose, committed a penalty and Mark Recchi capitalized with a PPG. Andre Faust made it 2-0 for Philly later in the opening period. Pat Falloon and Rob Gaudreau scored 47 seconds apart in the second period to tie the score 2-2. Dominic Roussel made 27 saves in the loss.
  • February 15, 1994 -- Mikael Renberg (3-1-4) recorded a third period natural hat trick which led the Flyers to a 6-4 victory in their first visit to the San Jose Arena. It was the seventh time in Flyers' history a player scored three times in one regular season period. Eric Lindros had three (1-2-3) points and Bob Wilkie (0-2-2) had two of his four Flyers' career points in this game. Philly scored six times on 19 shots off Arturs Irbe. The Sharks led 2-0 2:40 into the game but Mark Recchi scored his 30th goal 1:17 later and the Flyers pulled ahead by the break, 3-2. Pat Falloon put the Sharks ahead 4-3 early in the second period which led to the replacement of Tommy Soderstrom (4 goals, 9 shots) by Dominic Roussel who played 35:40 and was a perfect 19-for-19 in relief. Renberg scored at 2:43, 9:19 and 14:10 into the third period. The teams combined to go 0-for-17 on the PP including San Jose going 0-for-10.

1995-1999:
  • November 16, 1995 -- San Jose traded Pat Falloon to the Flyers for Martin Spanhel, Philadelphia's 1996 1st round choice (later traded to Buffalo, then Phoenix who selected Daniel Briere) and Philadelphia's 1996 4th round choice (later traded to Buffalo who selected Mike Martone).
  • January 3, 1996 -- Ron Hextall stopped 30 shots and two-thirds of the Legion of Doom scored in a 3-1 win played in San Jose. Mikael Renberg (1-0-1) and John LeClair (1-1-2) increased the season total of goals by the Flyers' top line to 68 (of 144) and Eric Lindros added two assists. Yanick Dupre, in his fourth NHL game, scored the first of two goals in his 35-game NHL career; he passed away in 1997 with leukemia. Aris Brimanis, in his eighth NHL game, picked up his first point. San Jose outshot Philly 31-19. The lone Sharks' goal was a PPG by Marcus Ragnarsson.
  • March 17, 1996 -- John LeClair (3-1-4), Eric Lindros (0-4-4), Pat Falloon (2-0-2), Joel Otto (1-2-3) and Dale Hawerchuk (1-2-3) played key roles in the Flyers' 8-2 home win. LeClair recorded his third NHL hat trick. Hawerchuk had three points in his second game as a Flyer. Falloon scored two PPGs and the team was 3-for-3. "You want to prove to the team, that traded you that you can still play," Falloon said. "Any player will tell you that and it's no different with me. I had chances to get that third goal and I hit the post a couple of times. It's something that will haunt me for a while, but it was 7-2 or 8-2 at the time, so I don't feel too bad about it." The Flyers led 4-1 in the first period and 7-1 late in the second period. Garth Snow made 18 saves. Geoff Sarjeant gave up eight goals on 24 shots. Kjell Samuelsson fought Jeff Odgers and Chris Therien was tossed as third man ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=vCX1STznNZk ).

  • November 16, 1996 -- Greg Hawgood's PPG with 2:37 to play gave San Jose a 2-2 tie in Philadelphia. The Flyers carried a 2-0 lead into the final period but Jeff Friesan scored at the 9:42 mark to cut the Flyers lead in half. The tying goal came with Daniel Lacroix in the box for high-sticking Owen Nolan. John LeClair scored twice in the first to give Philly a 2-0 lead. The Flyers held a 25-15 shots advantage over the first two periods but the Sharks held a 16-10 edge the rest of the game including 5-1 in OT. Scott Daniels and Marty McSorley fought -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-V1jc3cD24Q .
  • January 2, 1997 -- Ron Hextall made 26 saves and the Flyers beat nemesis (just seven wins in 30 meetings) Chris Terreri, 4-1 in San Jose. Daniel Lacroix and Eric Lindros gave the Flyers a 2-0 lead in the first period. The sizzling Flyers increased their unbeaten streak to 15 games (13-0-2) including a 9-0-1 run for Hextall. Lindros (11-12-23) and linemate John LeClair (12-10-22) continued their strong offense during the streak, too, with a point each.
  • October 13, 1997 -- Garth Snow made 43 saves, including 24 in the second period, and Eric Lindros (1-1-2) scored the GWG on the first shot in OT to lift Philly to a 3-2 win. Rod Brind'Amour (1-1-2) tied the game with 2:55 to play. Sharks' coach Darryl Sutter said "I'm really disappointed that we lost, but not in the way we played. We had great opportunities but we couldn't put the puck past Snow." Said Flyers' head coach Wayne Cashman "Our goaltending is the reason we won. It was as good of display as I've ever seen." The Sharks held a 45-24 shots advantage including 25-9 in the second period and 11-5 in the third period. Despite being outshot 36-14 over the last two periods, the Flyers out-scored the Sharks 2-1. The Flyers' PK was 8-for-8. Shawn Burr (2-0-2) scored both San Jose goals (he had six in 60 regular season games in his Sharks' career) but he suffered a torn ACL in right knee after colliding with John LeClair and the injury required reconstructive surgery (he did not return until January 21, 1998).
  • November 20, 1997 -- Doug Bodger (2-0-2) scored twice and Mike Vernon, who had a 28-save shutout, and improved his record to 18-5-3 against the Flyers (regular season and POs combined) in San Jose's 3-0 win at Philly. The Sharks were outshot 28-12 including 10-1 in the third period. In the first period, Brantt Myhres and Barry Potomski fought (https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KTVhNp5STN4 ). Eric Lindros and Todd Gill, both captains, fought ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ayKKAi1rzEk ) late in the second period. Lindros later scuffled with Marty McSorley in an altercation which led to an investigation by the NHL, which rejected the allegation after a review, to determine if Lindros bit McSorley on the cheek and face ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gqe2ptLbCYU ). Said Lindros "I didn't bite Marty. What's been talked about is just inaccurate reporting. It's unfortunate. The bottom line is it didn't occur.'' McSorley said "He didn't bite me -- whether he tried, I can't answer that. The only problem I have is he whacked me across the face with his stick. He's a tough kid. . . . he doesn't need to do that.'' Darryl Sutter, San Jose's head coach, said " Everyone was overreacting big-time. I didn't see anything. They're reacting to the cut, which was from the stick, not anything else. I didn't know anything about it until I went to bed and watched ESPN. On our team, it's not an issue.''

  • August 6, 1998 -- The Flyers traded unsigned 1994 draft pick Johan Hedberg to San Jose for a 1999 7th round draft pick used to select Pavel Kasparik. Hedberg made his NHL debut for Pittsburgh in 2000-01.
  • October 20, 1998 -- The Flyers outshot the Sharks 37-18, including 14-3 in the decisive third period, en route to a 3-1 home victory. Colin Forbes scored the game-winner and Eric Lindros (1-1-2) added an insurance tally in the final period. Rod Brind'Amour (1-1-2) tied the game 1-1 with 18 seconds left in the second period and began the game as the replacement for Mike Maneluk on the reformed Legion of Doom Line. John Vanbiesbrouck made 17 saves. Mike Vernon stopped 34 shots for the Sharks.
  • December 28, 1998 -- Eric Lindros and Joe Murphy swapped second period goals in a 1-1 OT tie at San Jose. Lindros' PPG, with Igor Korolyuk penalized for four minutes, snapped a streak of 31 straight kills by the Sharks. John Vanbiesbrouck made 22 saves. San Jose goalie Mike Vernon, who excelled in OT when the Flyers had a 6-1 shots advantage, also made 22 saves. The Sharks had With Flyers' d-man Chris Therien in the box due to a misconduct penalty picked up after a questionable penalty late in the OT, the Sharks nearly won in OT when Bill Houlder's one-timer dinged the crossbar with three seconds remaining.
  • November 5, 1999 -- Eric Lindros (1-1-2), John LeClair (1-0-1) and Daymond Langkow (1-1-2) scored and Mark Recchi (0-2-2) added two assists in the Flyers' 3-1 road win. The Flyers' PP was 2-for-4. Philly doubled San Jose's shot total 32-16 including 10-3 in the opening period (2-0 lead). Alex Korolyuk spoiled a John Vanbiesbrouck shutout bid with 1:26 remaining. Steve Shields made 29 saves. Afterwards, San Jose coach Darryl Sutter questioned the effort of his best players. "I guess I'm disappointed that our best players didn't play very well tonight. We've seen it on three or four occasions against the top clubs, which tells us we have players who have some work to do against the team's top players" to which Jeff Friesen replied "I was ready to play. I felt good. I'll look at the tape and see what I could have done better. I was on the ice for two goals and I've just got to take the blame and move on. That's part of the game."
  • November 13, 1999 -- Mikael Renberg's PPG with 4:23 remaining in the second period gave the Flyers a 3-2 home win. Daymond Langkow and John LeClair also scored. LeClair's goal was his 291st as a Flyer which put him in eighth place on team's all-time goals list. The Flyers led 2-0 at the 10:42 mark but were tied by the Sharks when Jeff Friesen scored a SHG 4:35 in the second period. John Vanbiesbrouck made 18 saves. The Flyers extended a recent run to 10-2-1 in their last 13 games after beginning the season 0-5-1.

2000s:
  • December 21, 2000 -- The Flyers went 3-for-4 on the PP, including two goals by Rick Tocchet, in a 4-3 home win. Daymond Langkow (1-2-3) had three points and Roman Cechmanek made 25 saves. Patrick Marleau scored twice for the Sharks, whose five-game winning streak was snapped. Evgeni Nabokov (7 saves, 10 shots) was replaced early in the second period, down 3-1, by Steve Shields (23 saves, 24 shots). Bill Barber began his coaching career with a 3-0-3 record, the best start for any Flyers' coach. Chris McAllister and Shawn Thornton had a spirited fight -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=yiK-3mEbe08

    a_nabokov_i-1.jpg
  • January 2, 2002 --Miikka Kiprusoff made 22 saves and Owen Nolan (1-2-3) had three points in San Jose's 5-2 home win in the newly named Compaq Center. Gary Suter's PPG early in the third period snapped a 2-2 tie. The Sharks out-scored the Flyers 3-0 in the third period. San Jose held a 36-24 shots advantage, including 28-11 over the last 40 minutes and 12-4 in the final period. Bryan Marchment leveled Donald Brashear with an open ice hit ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=byyk0kIYgNw ) and the two later fought ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_vtDqODACPs ) . Marchment, who also lost a fight to Todd Fedoruk, was named the game's top star.
  • November 21, 2002 -- Jeremy Roenick's PPG with 7:29 to play gave the Flyers a 2-2 tie in Philly. The goal snapped an 0-for-32 skid with the man advantage for the Flyers. Sharks' coach Darryl Sutter complained about the call issued to Matt Bradley saying "Like he missed him by three feet, that's what it looked life in real life, too. For the most part, you expect that. When the penalties are 6-2, or whatever, you know they're looking for something that may or may not be there." San Jose was 1-for-8 on PPs and the Flyers went 1-for-5. The Flyers had the only three PPs of the third period but the Sharks had seven consecutive power plays stretching from the first period into the second. Evgeni Nabokov made 32 saves. Robert Esche, who was named the game's top star and made 27 saves, was brilliant throughout the game and twice stopped Teemu Selanne on breakaways. Afterwards, Selanne said "I think last year I missed two breakaways all season.'' One of his breakaways came on a 2-on-0 moments after Selanne gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead. Chris Therien suffered a back injury and missed the next six games. It was the Flyers' fourth tie in their last five games.
  • December 6, 2002 -- Marcus Ragnarsson was acquired from San Jose for Dan McGillis. When asked about the trade Flyers' GM Bob Clarke said "We knew that we were giving up a player who has been pretty good for us. We feel that for the development of Dennis Seidenberg, we needed a steadier, more stay-at-home defenseman. We think Ragnarsson is a lot like Eric Desjardins - a little bigger, but a similar player. He will bring more stability to our defense." Ragnarsson said "I'm a pretty good overall defenseman. I can do a little bit of everything out there. This actually came as a shock. I’ve been with San Jose for 7-1/2 years. But once I found out it was Philadelphia, I was happy, because it was a pretty good team I was coming to."

  • December 30, 2002 -- Jonathan Cheechoo scored in the third period and Evgeni Nabokov made 24 saves in the Sharks' 2-1 home win. Marty Murray scored the Flyers only goal and ended an 18-game scoring drought. Donald Brashear and Bryan Marchment were issued minor penalties ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=p_dESdsaMwU ).
  • June 22, 2003 -- San Jose selected Joe Pavelski with the Flyers' 2003 7th round pick in exchange for a 6th round pick in 2004 used to pick Ladislav Scurko.
  • October 16, 2003 -- Jeff Hackett (27 saves) and Evgeni Nabokov (26 saves) dueled to a scoreless tie in the HP Pavilion. It was Hackett's 25th career shutout and the second shutout in his first three starts for his Flyers. The shutout was the 18th for Nabokov. Each team failed to score on lengthy 5-on-3's and the Flyers also failed on a double minor to Marco Sturm issued 14:28 into the third period. In OT, the Sharks nearly scored but a goal judge reviewed and rejected the possible goal.
  • February 16, 2004 -- Scott Thornton (1-2-3) and Jonathan Cheechoo (1-2-3) each had three points and Evgeni Nabokov made 20 saves in San Jose's 5-2 win in Philly. Patrick Marleau, Mike Ricci and Marco Sturm each had a goal and an assist. Marleau scored 1:29 into the game and the Sharks led the rest of the way. The Sharks took just 20 shots, one game after taking a club-record 50 shots in a 2-1 OT win at Columbus. Only five minors were called in the game for a total of 10 PIMs.
  • March 9, 2006 -- Niko Dimitrakos was acquired from the Sharks for a 2006 3rd round draft pick later traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets (Tom Sestito was selected).
  • November 18, 2006 -- San Jose scored three goals in the first and second periods en route to a 6-1 home win. Patrick Rissmiller scored 2:36 into the game. Twelve Sharks registered points including the game's top star Ryan Clowe (1-1-2). Mike Grier's SHG, with Joe Thornton in the box, halted the Flyers' momentum and made it 3-1. San Jose held a 25-18 shots advantage. Vesa Toskala made 17 saves. Geoff Sanderson scored the Flyers' lone goal, on the PP with Matt Carle penalized. Robert Esche (12 saves, 18 shots) was replaced by Antero Niittymaki (7 saves, 7 shots). Ben Eager and Mark Bell fought ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=5X_DYi-nldU ). Boyd Kane also fought Bell ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=omiBgLiG8iE ).
  • February 21, 2008 -- Milan Michalek and Douglas Murray scored 42 seconds apart in the first 4:17 of the third period and Evgeni Nabokov made 26 saves in San Jose's 3-1 win in Philly. Jonathan Cheechoo gave the Sharks a 1-0 lead in the first period. Mike Knuble evened the score with six seconds left in the second period. The Sharks held a 40-27 shots advantage. Martin Biron made 37 saves. The Flyers were 0-for-0 on PPs while the Sharks went 0-for-7. The game had a lopsided total of PIMs as the Flyers had 41 (including misconducts) to the Sharks total of 5. Scottie Upshall and Riley Cote were both issued 10-minute misconducts as the second period ended and Jaroslav Modry was whistled for tripping as regulation time expired adding to the imbalance in minutes. The lone Sharks' infraction was a 5-minute major to Jody Shelley (vs. Cote) in the first period ( http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nHUk5rwXSTI ). The Flyers lost for the ninth straight time (0-8-1, slump would ultimately end at 0-8-2). Prior to the game, Flyers' GM Paul Holmgren presented the Sharks' Jeremy Roenick with a Tiffany crystal in honor of his 500th career goal (the third American to reach that total joining Mike Modano and Joey Mullen). • October 18, 2008 -- Dan Boyle's goal lifted the Sharks to a 5-4 OT win at home. The entertaining game was sent to an extra period when Devin Setoguchi evened the score 4-4 with 4:44 to play in regulation. The Flyers took a 4-3 lead when Daniel Briere (2-0-2) scored on a breakaway with 8:49 remaining. San Jose outshot Philly 44-17. Antero Niittymaki recorded second star honors with his brilliant play including a tremendous glove save late in the third period, with the score tied 4-4, which led Sharks' PxP man Dan Rusanowsky to say "Niittymaki, you're a thief!" in appreciation. The Flyers led 3-1 when Jeff Carter (1-1-2) scored a SHG 6:48 into the middle period, 21 seconds into a minor penalty on Luca Sbisa and 1:41 after the Flyers killed a two-minute 5-on-3 disadvantage. The Sharks went 1-for-7 on the PP, while Philly was 0-for-2. • October 22, 2008 -- Joe Pavelski and Jeremy Roenick scored (2-0 shootout win) to lift San Jose to a 7-6 victory in Philly. Patrick Marleau (2-2-4) had a game-high four points but was in the box when Danny Briere's PPG was scored with 65 seconds to play which sent the game into overtime. Evgeni Nabokov surrendered six goals on 29 shots but stopped both shootout attempts. San Jose led 4-3 after a wild first period which led to the removal of Antero Niittymaki (11 saves, 15 shots) for Martin Biron (18 saves, 20 shots). Joffrey Lupul (2-0-2), Scott Hartnell (0-3-3) and Kimmo Timonen (+4) led the Flyers. The Sharks scored in the opening minute of the third period to take a 6-4 lead but Lupul scored at the 1:04 mark to make it 6-5. Philly started the season with an 0-3-3 record. • March 6, 2009 -- The Flyers voided the trade for Kyle McLaren, made two days earlier, sending the defenseman back to the Sharks after he failed a physical. San Jose traded the 12-year NHL veteran to Philadelphia for a sixth-round pick in the 2009 draft. McLaren suffered a hand injury while fighting December 10 in an AHL game. "Kyle has been very professional about his situation this season. From the beginning of the year, we made a commitment to Kyle to find an opportunity for him to play in the National Hockey League. Unfortunately, this deal didn't work out, but Kyle will return to the organization and work towards the full recovery of his hand," said San Jose GM Doug Wilson.
  • October 25, 2009 -- Manny Malhotra (2-0-2) scored consecutive goals in the second period, his first two scores of the season, and Thomas Greiss made 37 saves in the Sharks' 4-1 win in Philly. The game was tied 1-1 after the first until Malhotra scored twice in the second period. Malhotra and Joe Thornton combined to win 27 of 36 (.750) faceoffs. Brian Boucher played his first regular season game for the Flyers since the 2001-02 season. Ian Laperriere and Jody Shelley fought ( https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DmvBAik3eIk ).
  • November 20, 2009 -- Dany Heatley (3-0-3) and Joe Thornton (0-4-4) combined for seven points and Evgeni Nabokov made 27 saves in San Jose's 6-3 home win. The game was tied 2-2 until Patrick Marleau scored with five seconds left in the second period. The Sharks scored three times in the third period. Daniel Carcillo fought Frazer McLaren and Jeff Carter and Marc Edouard Vlasic picked up fighting majors. Claude Giroux (2-1-3) led the Flyers. 2010s:
  • December 8, 2010 -- Logan Couture and Ryan Clowe scored in the shootout and the Sharks rallied for a 5-4 SO win in Philly. The Flyers led 4-1 in the third period but the Sharks scored three times in a span of 3:55 to tie the game 4-4 on Joe Pavelski''s PPG with 7:32 left. "The reason we blew the 4-1 lead was because of penalties," said head coach Peter Laviolette. The tying goal came two seconds into a minor against Danny Briere who later picked up a 4-minute high-sticking penalty 37 seconds into a Flyers' PP. Chris Pronger said "We've got to stay out of the box. We've got to keep skating. We had full control of the game. We were dominating every aspect. We got lackadaisical and started letting them, started playing a little river hockey, and they've got players that can put the puck in the net." Mike Richards' OT goal was waved off after a reply showed time expired just a fraction before the puck crossed the line. In the second period, San Jose had a goal overturned when officials determined the puck was kicked in by John McCarthy. Clowe (1-1-2), who scored with five seconds left in the opening period, and Jason Demers (1-1-2) both had a goal and an assist in regulation. Antero Niittymaki made 31 saves. The Sharks won 63% of faceoffs. The Flyers led 3-1 after two periods. Scott Hartnell, Ville Leino and Claude Giroux all had a goal and an assist for the Flyers. The Sharks extended their winning streak to eight games in this series and the Flyers also failed to win for a 12th straight time with a W-L-T-OTL record of 0-7-2-3 since last winning in December 2000. Prior to the game, the Flyers honored Bernie Parent as part of the series of celebrations in tribute to the four players whose jerseys numbers were retired at the Spectrum (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bkUSv7_Se-o ). Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=koGdRGX67vc
  • February 28, 2012 -- Ryan Clowe scored on the first shot of the game and Antii Niemi made 26 saves in the Sharks' 1-0 home win. San Jose won for the ninth straight time in this series (Flyers' record 0-6-0-3) which has been surpassed by just two other franchises: Boston's 15 from 1970 until 1972 and the Rangers' 10 from 1971 until 1973. The Flyers winless streak in this series was extended to 13 games (0-8-2-3). The Sharks returned home after a nine-game road trip. Ilya Bryzgalov made 22 saves. The game had six PIMs, 4 to San Jose and 2 to the Flyers. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=KW0s78gdDEE
  • February 3, 2014 -- The Flyers established a franchise record tenth victory while trailing in a third period with a 5-2 win at San Jose. The Flyers trailed 2-1 after two periods and rallied with three goals in a span of 2:45 in the opening 3:56 of the third period. Matt Read, Michael Raffl and Claude Giroux (1-2-3) scored the goals which led to Antti Niemi (19 saves, 23 shots) being replaced by Alex Stalock (4 saves, 5 shots). The Flyers' PK was 1-for-5 including two kills in the third period. Matt Nieto (2-0-2) scored consecutive goals in the first period to give the Sharks a 2-1 lead but he was also in the box when Mark Streit gave Philly a 1-0 lead in the opening five minutes. The Flyers snapped a nine-game losing streak and a 13-game winless skid in this series and won in San Jose for the first time since 1999. Highlights -- http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zshJ1CMiqz4

  • February 27, 2014 -- The Flyers began the post-Olympics break with a 7-3 loss at home. Joe Pavelski (3-0-3), Logan Couture (2-0-2) and Raffi Torres (2-0-2) combined to score all seven goals by San Jose. Alex Stalock made 27 saves. The Sharks out-scored the Flyers 5-0 in the second period. The Flyers took a 2-1 lead on goals scored 22 seconds apart. Steve Mason (12 saves, 16 shots) was replaced by Ray Emery (10 saves, 13 shots) who then suffered a groin injury and Mason returned. It was San Jose's sixth straight win (4-0-2) in Philadelphia which is tied (unofficially) for the third most consecutive losses by the Flyers at home to one franchise (9 to Boston and 8 to Tampa Bay).
  • July 2, 2014 -- The Flyers sent Tye McGinn to San Jose for the Sharks' 2015 third round draft pick.
  • December 2, 2014 -- Matt Nieto scored with 11.5 seconds to play in San Jose's 2-1 home win. The winning goal came after Braydon Coburn appeared to make contact with teammate Steve Mason (25 saves) who later said “We played a pretty solid game and probably deserved to win the game. We made a mistake at the end and it cost us." It was the Flyers eighth straight road game without a win, the longest skid since 1999. Antii Niemi made 28 saves. Sean Couturier's PPG six minutes into the game gave the Flyers a 1-0 lead, the team's first such lead of the season (12 games). The Sharks tied it with 2:16 left in the second period. The game had one fight and just three minor penalties. Vincent Lecavalier was a healthy scratch for the first time in his career.

THIS DATE IN FLYERS' HISTORY: December 2, 1973
th

The Flyers won 5-1 at the California Golden Seals. But the most memorable moment came when Golden Seals' rookie defenseman Barry Cummins, in his fifth NHL game, was issued a match-intent-to-injury penalty, after he slashed Bobby Clarke (20 stitches) in the face and head with a stick. Bill Flett of the Flyers said "I don't know who that stupid goon was but you can bet if he stays around there will be lots of people taking runs at him." Bob Kelly picked up 19 PIMs in retaliation in a fight that lasted 29 minutes according to reports. The following day, Cummins phoned Clarke and issued his regret. He was suspended three games and fined by the NHL. League president Clarence Campbell described it as "deliberately striking Clarke on the head when he wasn't looking." Six players were tossed in the game including four Flyers.

I just watched the Anaheim and Sharks game....depressing how the Flyers are not even close to those two teams. I have no clue how the Flyers are going to beat the Sharks playing the way they have. They better be prepared to play otherwise they are going to get absolutely obliterated.

The only way to win a game on the upcoming road trip is to find and hit the reset button.
The individual parts of this team are much better than the record indicates!

Leaving Vinny and Slumberger in the line-up means they're not gonna save it (the season) for McDavid!!!!!

That 4 th line , it would be real tough to actually assemble a worse line with NHL roster players. :handclap:

If Berube continues playing both of the duo, no chance at winning on this trip.

The Sharks are usually money at home, weird to see that record. Still think we'll lose regardless, we don't play well at their arena.

I think the term "jump the shark" may well be appropriate for this next game with respect to the Flyers' season.

Though, as we have all learned from Mr. Berube, the Flyers just have to try harder and they will win.

Well, I'll be at this game. It's honestly the only game I expect this team to win in the next one or two weeks. Sharks are struggling big time so far this year.

Either way, I think my drive up from So-Cal will be worth it. I'll either see a Flyers win or a live trainwreck. Win-Win.

Go on Berube... you know you want to... that top 9 might actually give each line a chance to do well, and the 4th would be less of a liability than RJ-Vinny-Rinaldo with the same minutes! That would be funnier if it was not so true.

Forwards look better, but that D makes me sick to the stomach. Though there's no real good combo of the players we have anyway. I guess inserting Coco and Luke for under performers could be helpful, but then again, Berube would never sit players making 4+ mil. :shakehead

The Flyers are great at helping struggling teams get back on track.

I still have hope though, anything can happen :)
