I didn't see or hear Verbeek comment on playing natural sides. Seems like more of an issue for Dmen than forwards, yet we've seen a couple young rookie D getting their first NHL action on their off side.

But I do factor that in among the reasons why I sort of can't really picture us drafting Demidov personally. Probably the most talented player I'd be surprised to see us end up with (Parekh perhaps right up there in that regard).

When it comes to Lindstrom, he has that potential "unicorn" factor with the size, physicality offense....I could see falling in love enough to trump organizational fit.

Verbeek also said he wants to roll 4 lines. We can put Z at 3C or we can ease Lindstrom as a 3C in a couple of years. Then we can do what former GM Murray liked doing in finding chemistry duo's.

Cutter - Carlsson - xxx
xxx - Mac - Terry
Z - Lindstrom - xxx

If you think a guy has top pairing potential that should put him ahead of anyone outside of maybe someone with top line center potential. Especially for this team.

Chicago still has every bit of a chance to get that 1st pick again this year right? you just can't have more than 2 within 5 years?
Yes, Chicago can (read: will) get the 1st overall pick this year. If (read: when) they get it this year, they won't be eligible to move up in the draft the next three years.

If they finish last and get the 1st overall though, then they can still move up in future drafts though right? That would be the darkest timeline.
ya if they finish last, then hypothetically next year they could win the lottery still

Not sold on Levushanov unfortunately

Celebrini and Bedard on Chicago would be absurd. They would be a contender in a couple years likely as FAs would want to sign there

Id be weary of teams that have multiple 1st overalls. Like EDM. Top heavy, less balance through the lineup, more chance that top guys will need/want to move on to get paid.

That said, its a good problem to have.

The key is to have one 1st overall and one 2nd overall, like Pittsburgh. Not top heavy and more balance through the lineup.

All depends. I mean, if your 1st overall never plays well enough to earn a HUGE contract, then doesnt really matter. But if they both are earning massive contracts, it can hinder your ability to build around them. Just a generalization, but again, good problem to have.

That is true, at least Carlsson won't take up as much up team caps in the future like McDavid and Draisailtl do for Edmonton.

It's hard to find much in the way of video on Badinka but he seems to be an intriguing big RHD who is getting late first round ranks from multiple publications. He's one of just a small handful of u19 skaters playing full time in the SHL this year, really the only draft eligible Dman. Very good u20 numbers when down at that level.

Mckeens had a pretty glowing writeup (with some video) earlier on the season. Sounds like an intriguing target for the late first/early 2nd range

Celebrini would make this already very interesting forward group (when healthy) that much more interesting. It would also give Pat the option, should he choose, to flip somebody for a really high-end young dman.

It would make it interesting. Eventually, someone would have to be moved, there would be too much money tied up in that top 6. But short term,
Zegras-Carlsson-Gauthier
Celebrini-McTavish-Terry

Or make 3 lines. At that point, I'd try to trade up with the other 1st or do whatever it takes to get the best defensive RD outside of those top guys.

But too many of the "lucky" teams in the top 10. #1 is probably going to Chicago, Pittsburgh, or New Jersey, outside chance at Montreal. At least Hawks passed Sharks so if they win, they don't get another 1st (unless they finish last) for a few years.

@WhatTheDuck how do you rank the top defensemen in this draft?

Silayev
Dickinson
Yakemchuk
Levshunov

But it's close between those four for a variety of reasons, and at the moment I sort of see them (along with Lindstrom) on their own tier below Celebrini. Despite having him as the top D in the class, I'd also say Silayev is the biggest wildcard in terms of having the potential to go #2 or drop closer to #10 based on the unknown Russian factor.

Iv been sussing out who the supporters of other teams are leaning towards drafting to see who could be taken before us. Assuming Celebrini is gone:

San Jose like Lindstrom and Levshunov. Dickinson also an option. Silayev wont happen as their Russian scout has him ranked 10-15

Chicago wants either Lindstrom or Levshunov. Silayev would be an outside chance.

Columbus wants a 2C so expect them to take Lindstrom if here but after him Catton is an option though less likely. When it comes to D they are a bit all over the place with any of Levshunov/Dickinson/Silayev/Yakemchuk being the pick based on who is left.

Arizona is very high on Silayev. Levshunov is their second choice but also interested in Yakemchuk.

Ottawa wants a RD and lean towards Parekh but it is divisive. Dickinson is popular and Yakemchuk is also an option. They like Lindstrom but he is probably be gone by their pick.

Montreal lean towards forwards. Demidov gets a lot of traction. Hopes for Lindstrom to drop to them. They also like Iginla and Catton. Eiserman gets thrown around a bit.

So it looks like Celebrini/Lindstrom/Levshunov are going to be the top 3 leaving the rest for us to choose from assuming we drop 1 spot post lottery.
