Whoever drafts this kid is going to get a lot of goals, but I think that's where it ends, even though he thinks he's a 200 foot player. He's a sniper, but his dropping is due to him playing disinterested and just waiting for a pass. He's a faller, and fallers scare me. I'd place a heavy wager on BetMGM that BA won't draft him if that was a category.
It's obviously better that he plays two way, and it's true his defensive game isn't great.

But disinterested? Waiting for a pass?

He tends to hang around in the offensive zone and cheat a bit, but that's pretty much the extent of it. He covers for his d-men, wins puck battles, isn't afraid to go to the middle (which isn't really his game but he's always ready to do it) and does a good job anticipating the play. His stickwork defensively is also pretty good.

The way he's playing right now is possible because he's in the NTDP and has been told to be more selfish by his coach. But his skills are extremely projectable, moreso than anyone maybe bar Michkov that I've ever seen (yes obviously Bedard and Celebrini are better prospects) and he isn't a liability defensively. He hustles and works hard when he needs to. There's probably some times he could stand to not cheat as much, but just because he isn't playing at 100 every shift doesn't mean he's not interested. It's the same reason Ovi is still out there scoring goals (and being a freak of nature).

He also isn't just a sniper, definitely what he's best at but his playmaking certaiinly isn't bad and he's an intelligent guy.

He's also pretty big for his size, so I'm hoping we see a growth spurt since he's so young and another couple inches. But even as is now I think he's the next Ovechkin. I don't know how you pass that up. Would be like Hayton all over again.

EDIT: Also dunno if you can really call him a faller when the top guys still have him in the top 5. Guess we'll see as rankings develop...but almost EoS by now.

I want no part of Eiserman. Not only does he not play a complete game, from recent quotes he thinks he does. The lack of awareness is scarier than the lack of two way play. I think BA stays far away, when you look at players he's drafted they often list what they need to get better at.

This...it's scary if he really believes he plays a 2-way game.

Levshunov has 37gp 9g 26a 35p (0.95ppg). 2nd best.
Z.Buium has 39gp 11g 37a 48pts(1.23ppg). 1st best.

In the WHL there have been 19 picks (including Rielly, Jones, Morrissey, Provorov, and Byram).
B. Byram had the most points (71) and the best points per game at (1.06).
The average WHL D T15 over this span was picked 8th, played 61 games, had 12g 37a 49pts (0.80ppg).

With the 2nd overall pick, the Coyotes are proud to select Cayden Lindstrom from the Medicine Hat Tigers.

I don't think BA drafts someone from North America with his 1dt pick unless they really wantcto be a Coyotes

That just isn't true. Do you have sources and quotes for this?

He's repeatedly said that he's working on his two way game and that he wants to get better at it. It's also something he's acknowledged he has trouble with and that his coach is helping him work on.

^ when you actually see all the names over this span, it gets one extremely impressive.

The fact that all five of these players are in the same draft is mind boggling. It’s unprecedented.
Curious if you could run the #’s somewhere, but scoring seems up world wide. Wonder how the jump in scoring may be impacting those stats. Not trying to discredit their accomplishments just trying to make them work in my head.

Levshunov is 50% greater than the he average draft eligible top 15 pick NCAA D and Buium is twice as high as average. Making them top two in that span.

Yakemchuk is 30% over the average for the WHL. Number one in the sample.

Scoring is up. Not like that. Fifteen years is a large sample. I’m sure there have been up and down years in that time.

The sample size in the NCAA is easier. So I can do spot check version of this exercise quickly and on my phone. Lol. I’m home alone from Easter Sunday family party with illness anyhow.

Buium and Levshunov are the 1st and 2nd leading scorers on their teams and both have registered a point on 25% of their teams total goals.

In McAvoy’s draft year he was 6th in team scoring. He had a less than 20% point share.

Werenski was 7th in team scoring and had a 17% point share.

Hughes was 3rd and had 21% share.

WHL is tougher to spot check. But Calgary is 11th in goals in a 22 team league. Yakemchuk is their second leading point getter, leading goal scorer, and he has a 28% scoring share. Heck, he’s scored 1/8 of all their goals himself. A draft eligible defenseman. It’s nuts.

And going back to the start of my sample (09/10 season) the Hitmen had 8% more goals that year than they did this year.

All of this is only to provide some context to my claim that this is a truly special draft class of defensemen. The quality and quantity of the D available in this class is unprecedented. This is great news for the coyotes who seem to be heading into a position to get one of their favorite three of the top six D available.

From a recent interview, I don't have it bookmarked. Feel free to not believe me.

Actually hold on I found it.

“I think I have a pretty well-rounded game, it just gets overlooked because of how much I score. It’s almost one of those things where the scoring rates work against you (…) And my 200-foot game from last year has gotten really good. My coaches are saying that it’s definitely not a problem anymore and it’s perfect.”

"it's perfect" is a very scary mindset.
