With a stellar showing at the World Juniors and continued dominance in college, Macklin Celebrini has separated himself from the pack as the consensus top prospect for the 2024 NHL Draft. He is now in a tier alone atop my Midseason Rankings, which have been extended to the Top 160 (five rounds).

Celebrini has pulled away from two other potential star forwards rounding out my Top 3, followed by an impressive tier of Top 10 contenders from 4-15 that features 8 defenders with top-pairing upside.

Tij Iginla and Liam Greentree — two of the standouts from the recent CHL Top Prospects Game — headline the next tier of perceived first-round locks from 16-25. From there, it becomes more subjective and wide spread with a tier from 26-43 as first-round candidates, then a tier from 44-58 that could crack the Top 50.

Beyond that, I have a massive tier from 59-114 that could go as high as the second round or as low as the fourth round, including my Top 6 goaltenders and my Top 6 overagers. Last but not necessarily least, 115-160 offers 18 more overagers — all debuting in my Midseason Rankings — as well as some personal favourites with promising upside.

I’m planning to release two more rankings — Pre-U18s in April and post-combine Final in June — and will likely extend to my Top 224 and then Top 350. I already have more than 350 prospects on my radar for 2024, it is just a matter of refining those later rounds and honourable mentions between now and draft day. So stay tuned!

I hate being the first poster.lol

Very Czech friendly!

In this one.. Galvas ahead of Badinka.

5 Czechs in round 2 would be glorious.

Love to see Fibigr in top 100. I think top 100 has about 5 Czech D in it.. Badinka, Jiricek, Galvas, Fibigr and Svozil. Technically Fischer too but I think we're losing him to the US.

Curious why no Melovsky? He's killing it in WHL and was second in tourney scoring?

Same for Cibulka as an overager. Thrilled to see Rymon and Becher.

Looked like roughly a dozen Czechs!

Melovsky and Cibulka are both tentatively in my sixth round, which I'll share here as an HF special but don't read too much into the order as I focused most my efforts on fine-tuning the Top 160. But this is the next batch of prospects that just missed the cut:

What has Titlbach done to still be a top-84 player in this class?

That ranking reflects the reality that Titlbach's stock is falling throughout his draft year.

I was very high on him as a Hlinka standout and debuted him at 15th overall in my Preliminary Rankings in September. He dropped to 52nd for my Pre-WJC Rankings in December, but I was giving him the benefit of the doubt for the difficult transition to North America. Now, with more time to adapt and limited progression, he is down to 84th in my Midseason Rankings.

That said, he scored the winning goal as part of a two-point performance in his most recent game (2 goals and 3 points in last 3 games), so perhaps he'll trend up again. He is still talented to the eye test with the potential to "pop", so I wouldn't write him off just yet!

Anytime I see a list this big, by ONE person, I know you didn’t actually watch the players play. You’re taking opinions from other people in the industry, and aggregating them into a “ranking”. I think people like this suck because they’re trying to make themselves out to be something they’re not.

A ranking like this tells me one thing. “All these players are eligible for the upcoming draft”. That’s the only thing they’re good for in my opinion.

I’m sorry if it‘s harsh, but those who know are fully aware of this.

It's true, I haven't watched 160 or 350+ players play this season with my own eyes or even on video. I constantly network with industry connections (fellow scouts and media members) and do tons of research, including here on HF and Twitter, etc. I have developed several trustworthy contacts within the HF community over the last two decades (I've been active here since 2002, publishing mock drafts since 2012 and draft rankings since 2018). So some of these rankings are based on live viewings, some are based on video viewings/highlights, some are based on trusted sources via networking and the finished product is a culmination of all those aspects of scouting — using my eyes and ears, the latter equally important as a tool to becoming a successful scout.

That said, I also value my eye test and I am fully credentialed as a scout and media member in the CHL, particularly in the WHL and my home base of Kelowna, British Columbia, where I attend the majority of Rockets home games and have since 2008. Prior to that, I attended Red Deer Rebels, Saskatoon Blades and Lethbridge Hurricanes home games dating back to the mid-90s depending where I was located. So this has been a life-long passion for me. I used to scout the bantam draft for the WHL before changing my focus to the NHL and primarily first-time eligibles. I am in the rink watching the games within my region and I have access to multiple video tools to check in on players from around the world. But I also value the opinions of trusted sources from around the hockey world, as well as the feedback I receive here from the HF community at large.

Really apreciate the time you put in those lists , OBVIOUSLY you are not watching all of them. Its a very nice list and it helps to get an idea about prospects in later rounds.

Great answer...

Made me wonder what you think of Rocak?

Great answer...

Made me wonder what you think of Rocak?
He's in the tentative seventh round with the Slovak Kmec from PG and fellow Kelowna prospect Hiroki Gojsic (toolsy power forward type but too passive on most nights, perhaps just scratching the surface). Rocak is obviously undersized and can get overwhelmed physically at times, but he isn't a liability defensively and he is certainly an asset offensively, contributing nicely on Kelowna's second power-play unit. He has good reads/awareness and ability to get shots through to the net or in the net through screens, which isn't an accident at this point, he's aiming around the screen and hitting his spot from the point. He also had a highlight-reel overtime winner before the Rockets headed out on their pre-Christmas road trip. I would say Rocak is a longer shot to get drafted but somebody I would consider taking a seventh-round flyer on. In saying that, as I get into the 161-350 range and start watching more of those prospects, Rocak could fall out of my seventh round and wind up an honourable mention.
