Here's the Flames' likely pick at No. 9.

Iggy had 1+2 last night, but Kelowna is eliminated. Curious to see if he joins the U18’s.

I just don’t know the dates of when the team has to be finalized. Plus, I haven’t seen anything on Hage joining either which seemed obvious as well.
I'm not sure either, but you'd have to think they kept a spot open for a top player eliminated from CHL playoffs. Hage I wasn't sure if he was still playing, but USHL players less of a sure thing.

In my morning SIM spin, Calgary stayed in 9th 8 out of 10 spins
1 spin Philly won so we dropped to 10th
Even crazier, StL pulled off a miracle moving from 16th to 6th, again dropping us to 10th

Just watching Canada play U18s, Button just said that Kelowna's coaching staff have said that Tij could play C next year.
So those who are against picking a winger 1st, you can relax! (maybe)

I'm still hoping for Luchenko/Beaudoin/Elick with a 2nd. All 3 have looked good for Canada in these 1st 2 games. Been impressed with Mews too.

The National Hockey League announced today the 2024 NHL Draft Lottery will be held on Tuesday, May 7, at NHL Network’s Secaucus, N.J., studio. The event will be broadcast on ESPN, Sportsnet and TVA Sports (time to be announced next week).

The 2024 NHL Draft Lottery will determine the order of selection for the first 16 picks in the first round of the 2024 NHL Draft. Participants are all teams that did not qualify for the 2024 Stanley Cup Playoffs (or the teams that have acquired the first-round drafting positions of those non-playoff teams).

REMINDER: The NHL announced changes to the Draft Lottery format on March 23, 2021. Among the changes in effect since 2022 is a limit on the total number of selections (10) a team participating in the Draft Lottery can “move up” in the event it wins one of the Lottery Draws. Thus, only the top 11 seeds will be eligible to receive the first overall selection in the 2024 NHL Draft.

Iggy goes up to make the pick, says, "The Flames are proud to select...Me. Jarome Iginla."

How often does a father get to be in an official role with an org that announces they've drafted their son/franchise legend?

Was it Doan that last got to do that?

You're already pegging Tij as a franchise legend?? ;)
Brodeur announced his son's draft with the Devils in 2013 I believe, not round 1 though.

Aside from that, Bobby Hull drafted Bobby Hull Jr as black hawks ambassador in 81 but was escorted off stage and they made their real pick Tony Tanti.

Yeah wasn't that like a 7th round pick.

But it's just not common to be able to pick your own son/family, let alone in the first round

For me this is a twelve player list for our draft spot - 6F and 6D. I do not have Eiserman in there.

Celebrini, Demidov, Lindstrom, Catton, Iginla, Helenius.

Levshunov, Silayev, Dickinson, Parekh, Yakemchuk, Buium.

End of day I’m happy with anyone of those.

It’s weird cause I think Eiserman will likely be BPA when we pick. We need elite first liners. But I think it’s going to be hard to pass on a C like Lindstrom, Catton, or Helenius. Or a D like Levshunov, Dickinson, Buium, Silayev or Yakemchuk.

I don't want to jump ahead too much, but man we should have decent odds to get Hagens this time next year. He's killing the U18's

The 2025 draft is top heavy from what I have read, Hagens is the #1 overall prospect but it also includes Frondell and Misa, at one point Misa was the best overall.

We should be aiming for a top 5 pick in the next years draft.

Martone has 13 points through 4 games at the U18’s too. Should be in that conversation as well.

And McQueen would have been a bigger name if he was still playing.
Add in Hensler, Schaeffer, Desnoyers, Ryabkin, Moore, Wozniak, Spence and a few highly touted goalies and it looks to me like a good draft.

Top heavy maybe in the sense that Hagens seems to be the clear #1, like this year. Misa at times over the past couple years has made an arguement, but Hagens has been clearly ahead for most of that time.

Just for those curious, because I thought this article was going to spell it out a bit better:

:flames
5% - 1st Overall
5.2% - 2nd Overall
0.2% - 3rd Overall
64.4% - 9th Overall
23.5% - 10th Overall
1.7% - 11th Overall

I was trying to math how the 3rd overall could even in the discussion and here is how that could weirdly happy with a 2/1000 chance of happening:

Lotto pick 1: The Philadelphia Flyers win the 1st overall pick.
1st overall pick is then awarded to San Jose which is then 'locked' into the 1st overall pick.
Philly would drop down 2nd overall and 'lock' that pick in.
Lotto Pick 2: Calgary wins the 2nd overall pick.
Because pick 1 and 2 are 'locked in' Calgary would move to the next best pick at 3.
