It hurts to watch other GM's having end of season pressers and giving their opinion on what went wrong, what they'll do this summer, what to look for at the draft and July 1st and all that stuff.

We don't get that here.

Perhaps this time around, they'd get reporters asking questions around the incident in Seattle, and they want no part of it.

No chance, they are worried about losing their credentials. No uncomfortable question from beat reporters would be asked.

What do we buy for 9.0 million $ if both Landy and Niche is gone? Or actually 11 million if two bottom line players are replaced.

Drouin and Walker? Plus...

Artturi Lehkonen - Nathan MacKinnon Mikko Rantanen 26.4
Calum Ritchie - Casey Mittelstadt - Nikolai Kovalenko 8.8
Miles Wood - Ross Colton - Logan O'Connor 7.6
Fredrik Olofsson - Chris Wagner - Jason Polin 2.7
Jean-Luc Foudy 0.8
---- 46.3

Devon Toews - Cale Makar 16.2
Samuel Girard - Josh Manson 9.5
Keaton Middleton - Sam Malinski 1.6
Sean Behrens 0.9
---- 28.2

Alexandar Georgiyev
Justus Annunen
---- 4.2

78.7 = 9 million in cap space

^^

What on earth is that roster lol
Looks like the roster the Avs would have if Nuke and Landy's contracts would magically disappear.

You've got 9M left for two top 6 wingers and one 3rd pairing LD. It's doable.

Here's a better version of the same thing...9M in cap space to replace the XXXXX below:

Artturi Lehkonen - Nathan MacKinnon - Mikko Rantanen
XXXXX - Casey Mittelstadt - XXXXX
Miles Wood - Ross Colton - Logan O'Connor
Calum Ritchie - Chris Wagner - Nikolai Kovalenko

Devon Toews - Cale Makar
Samuel Girard - Josh Manson
XXXXXX - Sam Malinski
Sean Behrens

Alexandar Georgiyev
Justus Annunen

---------------
9M = Sign Drouin + another eRod/Tatar style winger on a 1 year deal late in the offseason + find a bottom pairing LD that can PK

I feel like this does nothing for the Leafs. That D corps is disturbingly bad.
It wouldn’t be one for one… Leafs get someone off that D core and get salary to spend while not killing their forwards. Carolina gets the game breaker who needs to prove it in the playoffs

Okay so if Cale is needing a surgery, and it's ltir for the season, do we sign Walker to a one year or trade for someone?

IMO the Avs roster next season looks like this:

Lehkonen - MacKinnon - Drouin
Landeskog - Mittelstadt - Rantanen
Wood - Colton - LOC
775K Vet - Wagner - Kovalenko

Toews - Makar
Girard - Manson
Behrens - 775K Vet

Georgiev
Annunen

Because if you don't trade Rantanen, you are once again hamstringing the team's depth and accepting that yes, you will be top heavy.

Bednar in all likelihood plays the f*** out of the top guys in an effort to win every game, and we head into the postseason with 29/96/8 being amongst the minutes leaders once again with zero Bednar-trusted depth.

The 4th line gets a couple of additions at the TDL if/when the likes of Wagner/Pavel/Ivan/Foudy prove they can't cut it, as does the 3rd pair RHD.

I'm shocked that we have enough cap space for this lineup. WTF? That looks 5M+ over the cap.

And that's with 2M for Nuke's dead cap space?

Hmm? I disagree. Guentzel will be Carolina's high paid winger and Toronto don't need Necas, they need defense and goaltending.

Now Marner to Nashville makes a ton more sense.
Not sure about Necas/Marner but I don’t believe Guentzel comes back. Carolina never spends big money on their UFA’s.

He's staying. Friedman said that both sides want to make it work.

Probably a reason why don't don't keep Necas in the first place.

Yes it is. Now, this factors in several things happening:

1) Avs cap hit for Nichushkin is only 2M
2) Mittelstadt signs for 6M
3) Drouin signs for no more than 3.8M (if he comes in lower, Mittelstadt can be higher)
4) 4LW is 775K such as Kiviranta and Wagner plays 4C
5) Avs run a 21 man roster with a F/D hybrid like Caleb Jones being the healthy scratch rather than 22.
