Saw this on Twitter last night re:Tkachuk and the trade talks last year. In hindsight, Bob absolutely got me and is correct.

There's important context missing here but I'm assuming in the context of a trade with Calgary for Tkachuk he's talking he wouldn't trade Hintz for him, which makes sense you don't give up your only #1 capable center for a winger. But calling Hintz a sure thing is odd, because even last year Robertson was the better player and he was again this year.
He's struggled to score in the PO, but Robertson underlying metrics all point that he's still very good.

Should’ve added more, but if you go to the thread he essentially was saying last July that he would do Robo for Chuck 1-1, and in hindsight Ive changed my mind and now agree. It’s not a slight on Robertson, I still think he’s incredible and we’re lucky to have him. I just now am of the camp that Tkachuk might be the perfect playoff hockey player and would’ve been worth that crazy price tag. Recency bias plays a huge role, obviously.

In terms of exchanging Robertson for Tkachuk, it would have probably been a wash during the regular season either way. Not getting much older, plus the physical component that he brings. With PO impact considered this year, it would have been a win, but prior to this run with Florida, Tkachuk was pretty bad in the PO.
He had played 27games over 4 years with the flames and scored a total of 15p (what Robertson has in this run alone).
I'd expect a much better Robertson if they make the PO next year (not necessary having the same impact Tkachuk is this year) but again, his underlying metrics say he's been very good still.

After last season I thought Tkachuk's 100 point season was a fluke. Like, where did it come from it must be BS. He made a fool of me

Same here. The thing that also worried me is that he was an absolute no show against Dallas in the playoffs last year, and he wanted a ton of money. I wasn't sure he'd be able to repeat what he did without Gaudreau. This year he's carrying Florida on his back and has been unbelievable in the playoffs. Trades like that one don't happen often, and a lot of the time they don't seem to work out, this one clearly has worked out really well so far. I'm still bewildered by Paul Maurice being their coach, but they squeaked into the playoffs and they're way too good to have been an 8th seed, what a crazy year they're having.

Fingers crossed for Chiarelli.

He would be such a great get for that franchise

Milan Lucic is an upcoming UFA . Perfect timing .

By the way weren't the Stars also rumored to be interested in Lucic the offseason he signed with Edmonton ? Think i kinda remember that

Something is reallyy off with this story. Nichushkin was escorted from the hotel for his 'health and safety". Something is being covered up it seems

Absolutely. DPD (Denver) is a notoriously shitty PD. The Avs were carting around off-duty officers who thought they could snow the local cops and make it disappear. Good on the Seattle Times for staying on this.

The human trafficking victim was obviously given a story to rehearse to any authority figures. It's possible she saw Nichushkin as a way out of the situation, he indicates he's not about that, altercation ensues. Very sad.

Based on the article I doubt we'll ever truly know what happened. The thing that gets me is that whoever saw what had actually taken place knew immediately that it was a really bad/illegal situation and was worth losing Nichushkin for the rest of the playoffs to save him from likely jail time. They knew they had to cover it up and get him the hell outta town (or country, who knows). This whole thing stinks to high heaven.

Wasted cup chance. Dallas could have beaten Florida.

I blame Suter. If he would not have screwed up game 2 Dallas would have gone to a game 7. For that alone he needs to be removed from this team.

Idk man . At this point i'm not sure Oettinger still had enough juice left in him to win the cup . He was already not good against the Kraken despite the defense playing well in front of him most series and it only partially got better in the WCF .

Next year we need Wedge to stay healthier and a #3 the team trusts to play more than some ( not even all ) games in back to back situations just in case . That guy could actually be Murray or Poirier but they weren't ready for it this year. The Khudobin contract still hurt the team because he was unplayable.

I'm not worried about Oettinger at all, he was great until Wedgewood went down and the Stars didn't trust anyone to help him out so he got rundown. He's still so young and we've seen what he's capable vs Calgary. if anything I think this year just fuels him to improve just like he did from year 1 improving on stopping breakaways and shootouts.

In my dream scenario id love if the Stars could snag Vejmelka in a swap for Wedgewood + pick, but probably best to spend that cap space elsewhere.

I'm not worried either . He just can't play that many in games in the regular season again. There need to be some precautions to make sure it doesn't happen again. He clearly needed more breaks every now and again. After Wedge went down they rode him too much because Murray was not ready for NHL games .

By the way whats funny is he still has 5 more playoff games played and any other goalie . Jake played all of the 19 stars games and the next goalie is Bob with 14 games.

Why him more than the goalie with a 87.8% / 3.42 gaa?

Why not the “Norris quality” defender, earning ~2.5x as much, who allowed 6 more goals while on the ice(a -7)? Suter had the same amount of points as him, so not like he was making it up on the offensive side. Or lindell who was a -5?

Why not the entire middle six earning ~9x as much as him and only outscored him by 1pt for the series?

There were 3 goals scored directly ea off Wyatt Johnston and Marchment mistakes while pitting up 0 total points - shouldnt they shoulder the blame?

Miller was a -2 over the first two OT games - including falling down/not covering the OT goal game 2 - in 15m atoi and subsequently benched. He wasnt a problem?

Adin Hill had a 1.99 / ~.938 for the series, Miro played like an average defenseman, and the middle 6 all but disappeared. When your goalie is letting in near twice as many goals, you’re not going to win. The man-on-man defensive coverage got exposed because the forwards played poor on the defensive side. Suter was far from the problem

If Dallas even brought their B game for the entire Vegas series they would have won the cup. Oettinger played bad, Suter got worse each series, Benn, Seguin, and Pavelski were all pretty much invisible against Vegas. Dallas played terrible and still took it to six games and also should have won game 2.

Vegas was and is the better team, but the better team doesn't always win in the playoffs, and Dallas didn't give themselves a chance to find out if they could spoil Vegas' run. I generally don't believe in these single-game events as series changers, but man...kind of hard to understate how bad it was for Suter and Benn to drop woodchuck turds all over the bed.
