It's that time of year to cast your vote for the 2023 HFNHL Award Winners.

Firstly, the ones you already know:

- President's Trophy (points leader, regular season): Vancouver Canucks (116 points)
- Art Ross trophy (top scorer, regular season): Kirill Kaprizov, New Jersey Devils (109 points)
- Maurice Richard trophy (most goals, regular season): Kirill Kaprizov, New Jersey Devils (54 goals)
- William Jennings Trophy (goalies sharing lowest GAA, regular season): Mike Smith/Tristan Jarry, Vancouver Canucks (2.32)
- Prince of Wales Trophy - Florida Panthers
- Clarence Campbell Trophy - San Jose Sharks
- Stanley Cup Champion - Florida Panthers

Now on to the voting process...

We're using google forms again.

Take the time to research and vote on each individual award. Remember, you can't vote for someone in your own organization. HFNHL - Pro Individual Leaders

Those teams whose players or staff receive awards earn $500,000 for each honor received... but ONLY if that team participates in the voting process!

If there is someone you feel should win, but is not listed, you can now add them to the poll (type their name in the add option)

Voting will close Wednesday, July 12 at 11:59 EST

Feel free to use this thread to make your award pitches.

Florida Panthers Candidates

Steve Wright (GM of the Year) - Brock Otten

A couple of key trades made this year took Florida over the top including the preseason acquisition of Jusse Saros and the deadline acquisitions of John Tavares and Jake Muzzin. Otten becomes the first GM to win three HFNHL Stanley Cups.

Jack Adams - Dean Evason
Florida was steady all year thanks to the coaching leadership of Evason. Obviously, his leadership was also pivotal in helping Florida capture the cup too.

Calder Trophy - Moritz Seider
Not only one of the top rookie scorers this year, Seider was also one of the top defenseman scoring leaders this year. He also led the HFNHL in postseason assists and was an anchor for the Panthers all year. No rookie had as large an impact this season.

Conn Smythe Trophy - Jusse Saros
Hard to argue against Saros for the Conn Smythe given that he posted a remarkable .940 save percentage in the playoffs!

Conn Smythe Trophy - Moritz Seider
Outside of Saros, Seider was the best Florida player in the playoffs, finishing a top the team's scoring leaders while playing significant ice time as a rookie.

Mark Messier Leadership - Jeff Carter
Carter was the captain of an HFNHL Champion this year and has been captain of the Panthers for a few years now. Only fitting since Florida was the team that drafted him way back when.

1st Team All Defense - Cale Makar
Makar is also up for the Norris trophy, but we're making our pitch for Makar as first team all star instead, given that we see the Norris as a one horse race. Makar played in all situations for Florida this year and was absolutely instrumental in helping them capture a Championship. He was among the leading defenseman scorers this year and is, flat out, one of the best defenders in the HFNHL.

None of my players deserve to be In but for the first time ever I feel I can plug myself for GMOTY.

The Detroit Red Wings finished with the second worst record in the league. Well we fell short of the playoffs by a few points. We did manage to finish 16th which is the largest improvement by any team In the league this year

For the Flames:

Dylan Larkin - Hart & 1st Team All Star: not only was he 5th in the league in scoring but for a team that finished far out of the playoffs, he was by definition a Hart Trophy player, the most important to their team. He was also 3rd in the league in goals and in the top few for shooting %, hits taken etc.

Columbus Blue Jacket Candidates

Steve Wright (GM of the Year) - Douglas Emerson

I think I may have done the heaviest lifting of any GM in building a contender this season, adding arguably the top center (Hertl), winger (Huberdeau), and goalie (Kuemper) to move in the weeks leading up to the deadline, while also supplementing with additional pieces around their established core.

Took the eventual Cup Champs to 7 games in the Eastern Conference Finals (something San Jose couldn’t do), and is returning 95% of the same roster for 2023-24, so it wasn’t built on cheap rentals. Left without a first rounder from the Hedman trade for the third and final year (worth it!), I’ve had to rely on depth scouting and FA signings to keep the pipeline primed with budding assets like Lukas Dostal, Kirill Marchenko and Tye Kartye - so the future still looks pretty good in Columbus.

Mark Messier Leadership - Jordan Staal
34-year-old Mr. Dependable drew all of the Jackets’ toughest checking assignments and PK duties while putting up a whopping 61% FO win rate over 77 games to lead the HFNHL by a wide margin. Accepted being moved to the third line to spread out team scoring and continued to lead with his physical play and defensive commitment.

James Norris Trophy - Victor Hedman
1st Team All Star, Defence - Victor Hedman

The Viking led the team in scoring until the addition of Huberdeau, and his 66 assists topped the entire HFNHL (forwards included). This despite playing managed minutes to keep him healthy for the playoffs. The time of the elite young blueliner has arrived, but this veteran has still earned his spot at the top for one more year.

Suggested Write-in Candidates from other teams:

GM: Roy Larsen, ANA
- should get consideration every year on activity alone, but this year he dragged his team into the playoffs and gave Nick’s Blues a real run for their money.

Lady Byng: Auston Matthews, WAS - monster season and only 16 pims.

Hart: Tristan Jarry, VAN - coin toss with Demko (DAL), Jarry played 80 games and put up 8 shutouts.

Toronto Maple Leafs Candidates

Steve Wright (GM of the Year) - Brad Palmer

Jack Adams - Todd Reirden

This is a regular season trophy, and no one finished the regular season better than Todd. The Leafs closed the season with an 18-1-1 record in their last 20, including winning all of their last 10 home games. All of this en route to a 2nd place finish in the league (and 1st in the East). Todd did do with team defense, a lethal powerplay, and a defensive system that led to career numbers for Igor Shesterkin.

Hart Trophy - Connor McDavid
Connor finished 4th in the league with 104, a whopping 36 points more than his next closest teammate! McDavid had some rotating linemantes throughout the season, and the highest scoring forward on the Leafs that DIDN'T play with McDavid for a significant stretch was Yakov Trenin - with 40 points.

1st team all star - Connor McDavid

Hart Trophy - Igor Shesterkin
Shesterkin led the league in GAA and SV% while playing a stunning 75 games. What more needs to be said.

Vezina Trophy - Igor Shesterkin
Shesterkin led the league in GAA and SV% while playing a stunning 75 games. What more needs to be said.

1st team all star - Igor Shesterkin

Lady Byng Trophy - Johnny Gaudreau
If you like the Lady Byng winner to be the highest scorer with ZERO (0) PIM's, this is your guy!

Norris Trophy - John Carlson
3rd on his team in scoring with 67 points, toss him a vote so he can finish 5th!

1st team all star - John Carlson
3rd on his team in scoring with 67 points, toss him a vote so he can finish 5th!

I'll make my case for Mika Zibanejad for Lady Byng. He's not even listed as one of the 10 finalists, so you'd have to write him in but he had only 5 minor penalties all season playing all 82 games and posted 85 points; more than any of the candidates with less PIM's than him. To me he's an easy finalist, but he might have a tough go getting enough write in's. So if you want to give him some credit go for the Frank J. Selke, becasue he's the best two-way player in the game. Thank you.

In addition to the winners, wanted to says congrats to Doug who has done an amazing job with Columbus. The Hedman acquisition was huge. He was right in the mix for everything he could have won. Bright times ahead.
