I literally yelled out, "What the f*ck are you doing?" when they went into the 1-3-1 right before Edmonton's 2nd goal. You could see that goal developing all the way. I just don't get the inability for this team to learn from their mistakes and adjust.

It's the same feeling I had last year, this roster is a better team with no coach behind the bench telling them what to do.

Would love to see the team just play pond hockey and see what happens.

Unfortunately, even if BLuc are let go, I don’t think AEG is going to approve a rebuild until the Kings start missing the playoffs. All past rebuilds were given the ok because the Kings kept missing. The most they’ll allow is for a retool but to continue to push for the playoffs rather than ripping the bandaid off.

You buyout PLD, from '26 to '31, the teams cap hit total will be close to $17.5 million! In 3 straight years, the Kings will have a cap hit of almost $4 million per year eating up their salary cap space!
Those are the worse 3 years and you still have 4.5 mil left over to find a PLD replacement. Or don’t replace him, switch byfield to center and earmark that money for a goalie.

I think you might just have to hope PLD improves next season. Hopefully he has an attitude that he is going to come in everyday during the summer, work on his game and regain confidence in his own ability. He just looks like a player that doesn't believe in himself. His poor play and lack of confidence in himself is becoming an endless cycle resulting in his regression getting worse and worse. He probably won't ever be worth his contract but he should be at least a serviceable player, he shouldn't be this bad.

Hiller should just put PLD in front of the net on the first PP the rest of this series. It's where he had most of his success in Winnipeg and the PP isn't working anyway so we need to mix it up. For how much he likes mixing up 5v5 lines it's odd Hiller is staying consistent with the PP lines while it's not working. You don't really have much to lose at this point and if your lucky maybe it can inject some confidence into the PP and PLD.

Edmonton fans are actually braindead with this “LA is so dirty and always trying to injure us” narrative.

You have to be a special level of regarded to believe this.
Love how this entire series has been Oiler fans crying and taking shots at the Kings and Kings fans either agreeing with them or wishing they were true.

Trading PLD will mean either taking back a bad contract OR retaining heavily on PLD.

A buyout and more specifically, a buyout prior to June 24th of 2024 is the best option

From now on, no more long term deals unless the player was drafted by the Kings! Jesus!

And no more trade clauses! Fact is, AEG couldn't rebuild right now even IF they wanted to.

Exactly. We’ve all acknowledged from the beginning the Oilers are the far superior team and can and should win. We also all acknowledge our team is made up of a bunch of softies and we wish they were tougher and dirtier.

Apparently they’re the broad street bullies to the wimps in Edmonton.

You don't know unless you try.

His clause doesn't kick in until July 1st. Up until that point the Kings should be looking into trading him. If you can't do it, then maybe you have to do the buy out.

He's 25 and has the attributes every team craves at the center position.

Last 3 seasons:
2021-22 81gp 28g 32a 60pts
2022-23 73gp 27g 36a 63pts
2023-24 82gp 16g 24a 40pts

We'd probably have to take back a bad contract, but as long as it's significantly less bad, I'm fine with.

You'd be surprised by how many incompetent GM's there are out there. PLD looks great on paper.

Is a buyout really worth it? Can you actually build a competent team with that much dead cap space? And if your rebuilding why do we even care about his contract?

For a couple seasons, the max cap hit is a bit over $3 million but most of it is under $2 million. Far better than another 7 years of $8.5 million of, well, this.

And we care about the contract because he's not been a good player...? The buyout will only get worse the longer they wait (shorter term, but heavier hits), and no team should plan a 7-year rebuild. Byfield will be 28-29 years old by the time the contract as is expires. In the meantime, the Kings would still have to pay to retain the young talent they draft during the rebuild.

And even if you were planning to rebuild for 7 years to eat the contract, wouldn't you want less problematic players?

+ Provorov 2m
+ Richards .7m
+ Dubois 8.5m's anchor of a contract. You think that's a preferred alternative to paying him $3 million at most and signing a less problematic depth center for a lower cap hit?

I.E.
PLD is not the type of player you want during a rebuild, anyway. His shit attitude and effort are horrible examples for younger players breaking into the league.

Just one of the most incompetent trades in the history of hockey. Jesus.

Yup it’s the intangibles.

You can maybe live with just his shitty play if he’s giving 100%.

You can jettison him easily if he’s just a shitty human.

But he’s the rare combo of hype over substance, an actually really nice guy, but a terrible on ice work ethic/“effort”/whatever nebulous definition of “looks like he’s working, doesn’t lose every puck battle, and doesn’t get bitch slapped by any player with a pulse” you choose.

You don’t want that around a young and growing team. See you too kids can nkt work hard and get no results and get paid 8.5! …but you Akil, thanks for producing great for your role and ice time and working the system hard, throwing your body around, and setting a great example…now go back and make 5 figures kid, we have dead weight to pay.
