Latvia gets another pp. Veinbergs wins the draw cleanly against Nathan Gaucher and Latvia gets a quick shot and scores. 4-2 now

Latvia with their 3rd pp attempt. Veinbergs wins another draw cleanly back to his dman. Kid is pretty good at face offs

Canada wins 5-2 but hard to not feel like that's a loss in their eyes. Latvia played them pretty evenly in the 3rd period. Veinbergs did some good things offensively, but once again his play in his own end isn't great. He doesn't finish checks, or really try to use his body. He gets stationary and watches the play a little too much, and he does a lot of weak one hand on the stick swiping to defend. Needs to be more aggressive and assertive. If the plan is for him to join the USHL after this tournament, I'm sure this is something he will work on while adapting to the North American game. For Jack Thompson, he was in his element working on the PP. Very much like we saw in the prospect tournament last September, he loves to shoot the puck. But it was nice to see him get some PK minutes too. He had a couple clear attempts that didn't make it out, but otherwise not a whole lot to critique. He's 3rd pairing, but played 18:30. Without an Owen Power type dman here, there's not much seperation between their #1 and their #6 guy. There's an oppertunity for him to get more minutes as the tournament goes on if he can earn it.

Thompson just got absolutely obliterated in the corner from behind. Hes also had 2 really bad turnovers behind the net where he looks really soft

Slovakia is just awful with the turnovers and Matt Carle esque plays in the D-zone.

Canada win and await to see who they play in the next round. McTavish and Bedard are probably 2 of the most dangerous offensive players in this tournament but they were also not so great in their own end. Likewise some of Canada’s dmen caused a lot of their own problems. Thompson meanwhile (+4 again tonight) has looked pretty steady to me. Makes good decisions, had some nice poke checks to protect his blueline, efficient on breakouts.

Thompson is Probably Canada’s all-around best D. Our most upbeat prospect in awhile.

Canada will play Czechia in the semi finals tomorrow. Canada won this matchup earlier in the tournament 5-1. This was the same game Jack Thompson was awarded Canada’s player of the game award.

Canada up 1-0 after 1. Thompson has been pretty consistent all tournament. Him and d partner Ronan Seeley have continued to do a good job finding and playing off each other and moving the puck quickly. They’re rarely in trouble.
